It might say they are looking to level the playing field, but the Club statement doesn't deny that the Club are asking for money for this 'privilege'. It still boils down to cash for questions/access. How much pigging money do we make out of this? Compared to the loss of free exposure and better public relations.

Short-sighted, Gradgrindian outlook prevails again.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Possibly just a token gesture by the media outlets to cover the costs of the 'free' season ticket passes that they get, I would assume. The club will still get exposure, they are just creating a level playing field for all media outlets - they might have upset the Chronicle in this, though without taking this action they could have upset Radio Humberside and the Grimsby Telegraph. Personally, I would prefer the club to keep the latter two media outlets on board as they have a greater reach and read/viewer ship than the Chronicle.

But why even expect them to pay (bar broadcast rights)? If it's a token fee why bother? And the CC apparently turned down the 'free' ST so all's even on that one.

I'll be honest, I didn't think it meant 'utilitarian'. That would imply much more forethought than I create the club with.

If all other media outlets have to pay, why shouldn't the Chronicle? The token fee would be to appease the other outlets. Just because you turn something down doesn't make you 'holier than thou' like people on here think the CC are!
