Just watching it on TV as it's local and Stevenage scored with a spitting image of the Nathan Arnold goal at Eastleigh apart from it being a left foot strike.

Pointless hypothetical question: if the Stevenage first choice keeper gets injured, I presume they'd be allowed to sign another on loan? I know the term is 'senior goalkeeper' but Big Dave takes that to another level!

You could tell that Joe Hart was destined for bigger and better things when he came here with Shrewsbury that time but all 3 are well behind the best opposition keeper I've seen at BP. That Japanese bloke with Portsmouth was unbelievable.

There was one point in the game tonight when the Stevenage keeper took a knock and the trainer was on for a while so Beasant was almost called up.

Saw Hart a couple of times i think (home and away)  and yes he looked decent but not a touch on those two at that stage of his career, James was outstanding.  I can remember Roly and John on the commentary making comments about James being destined for bigger and better things.

Dave Beasant was our Goalkeeping coach for a short period a couple of years ago when Mark McGhee was our manager.

Being on the bench of a professional club at the age of 56 is incredible.

David James was terrible every time Rovers played Watford at the time, I think he conceded 12 goals in 4 games against us.

The best goalkeeper I have seen was Nigel Martyn, the first £1M goalkeeper when we sold him to Crystal Palace.

Have to agree with moosey_club. I was in the pontoon when town played Watford, I had heared all about David James but to see him up close completely dominate the entire 18 yard box for the whole 90 mins was impressive. Quite clear even back then he was destined for international honours.

Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi...all 5 ft 10 of him! - Based on Wiki stats, the game v us was only one his 12 league games for Pompey! I was there at BP that day...he was truly - awful but a great 3 - 1 win all the same, Peter Crouch with Portsmouth's goal

David James for me..that watford game i remember clearly.  He came for every cross so we started crossing it further away from the goal...he still kept coming for them, so much so we ended up crossing it outside the penalty area so he couldn't catch it.  Strangest thing i've ever seen to see a player get to the byline and cross outside the penalty box.  He was awesome but so badly let down at Liverpool.

A 6'4" goalkeeper who has the ability to be lobbed when standing just a yard off his line is truly something special.

My only memory of Crouch at BP was when he came with QPR very early in his career, Paul Groves marshalled him very well that day and Crouch hardly won a header.....largely due to craftily being held down but hey...experience over youthful exuberance everytime

James was awesome that day against Watford.  The way he commanded his area was like something you see from Neuer or Courtois today.

Considering James was only 21 when he played that season he was ridiculously good.  Even as he got older and played at higher levels he looked absolutely dominant, problem was you knew he always had that one error in him.

Hart looked good but no way near as good as James did.  Two leagues lower too.

James made the best save I've seen in my life that day, for sure. He was commanding all round but to this day I cannot believe he kept out Fordy's effort.
There are good saves and there are great saves but that one was simply astonishing.
