As it's nearly voting time and there's not a lot to choose between the different parties can anyone remember which ones were against the stadium so i can wipe them off the list.

What's wrong with Blundell Park - the home of the Eastleigh victory - the venue of massive excitement last Sunday - the identity of Grimsby Town Football Club - oops - I'll get my coat

Haha nothing , the memories are great but it's getting costly and shabby, we need a venue to be proud of with facilities that would encourage a wider range of support.

Mr Defreitas and his Lib Dems didn't look to kindly on it.

Labour's candidate for the Park Ward is the Mariner's Trust secretary, I believe.

It's the national elections rather than local. I personally don't know what the stance of the MP's is on it?

DeFreitas is up for re-election in the Park Ward tomorrow according to the GET.

A chance for GTFC fans in that ward to replace him with a more sympathetic councillor?

It is both national and local elections here.

Incidentally the person standing in Park Ward is not the Mariners Trust secretary but the Treasurer

Can we also have a ban on any nay saying councillors etc coming to Wembley with us? They don't deserve to jump on the band wagon if they aren't prepared to help move the club forward

Although I'm a Tory, I'd rather see Melanie Onn win Grimsby as Ayling is not only a nutter, but UKIP will kill the stadium plan stone dead with their "Pye in the Sky" idea.

Coalition pleasantries don't extend to DeFreitas and I hope whoever the best place candidate in Park manages to unseat him, who happens to be Ian Townsend.  Not only is Ian Treasurer of the Mariners Trust, I also had the pleasure of working with him about ten years ago and he's a really decent bloke who would make a great councillor as well as a brilliant advocate for the club.  I hope my fellow Tories can put party loyalties to one side if they live in Park and give Ian their backing.

Martin Vickers sits near me in the upper find us. Not sure about his view on relocation though.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

Zilch, in common with all other parties.  The area has been badly served by politicians of all parties.  I think Martin Vickers has been good for the area and is a Town fan.  I would imagine he is for the relocation, but MPs tend to be careful voicing opinions on planning matters so as not to damage one side.  I would be amazed if John Fenty hasn't been having conversations with Martin about the subject.

I'm no Tory, but he's a big town fan, spoke to him on the train a few weeks ago and he's very excited about plans for the new ground, he feels it will have a similar effect to what happened to Doncaster rovers, he came across as a decent nice genuine guy who hasd time to listen not at all what you expect from a politician!

Erm I was answering a comment about the local/prospective MP not necessarily the local party.

So please do tell us all what Austin Mitchell has done for GTFC and the new ground.

Vickers is a decent bloke, I understand.

Don't forget, however, that a vote for him is a vote for Cameron and Osborne, two of the most devious and dishonest politicians for a generation. They even make some of the Thatcher era bunch seem principled!

Hope everyone finds the time to vote. Nice day for it.

Without trying to make this into another political rant you could include many MPs especially from the Labour Party (Gordon Brown one of the biggest and devious lying twits around).

It would be interesting to count up how many from each party have been sentenced to prison for being devious and dishonest.

John Fenty was in charge....he got the planning permission but let it go....as he didnt have a sustainable plan to finance it without an enabling partner......a bit like Peakes Parkway or just about any other site we may identify, the club cant afford to move on their own and that isnt any council's or M.P's fault.
Enabling partners are required and that means a bigger development outside of the stadium one way or another which means changes to local plans, longer planning processes etc. If the club could self finance we would have been playing in the Sponsored by Conoco Stadium by now but it cant.

Not many of any party is the answer. They tend to get away with blue murder most of the time though the odd ones have been sent to prison for perjury.

Disagree with you about Gordon Brown's dishonesty as he wasn't too bad from what I remember (for a long-serving politician, that is). Call Me Dave, on the other hand... I'd check twice if he told me the sky was blue.

Actually, it's nice not to have all the TV and radio banging on about the election campaign today. They aren't allowed to do much more than basic reporting on election day so it's pretty peaceful in comparison to the whirlwind of bullshit they've been putting out every 5 minutes for the past few months!

The only problem is that we've got weeks more of it to come if, as seems likely, there is another hung parliament.

Probably the same thing as Cameron and Osborne's promises not to raise VAT or have a top-down reorganisation of the NHS whilst reducing immigration to tens of thousands.

On the local scene and Park Ward in particular i see that Mr Defrietas is up to his old tricks again.

The day before the election, allowing no time for a response, he issued additional leaflets claiming the local labour candidate in his ward, non other than The Fishy's own Barralad is a 'plant' from the Trust to get the stadium plans through and a vote for Labour in Park Ward is a vote for a new stadium!

Now my knowledge of said Fishy member is that he has been a Labour party member for a lot longer than he has been Trust treasurer.

One thing it does say about Mr Defrietas is that he is running scared.

Make my day if DeF is ousted

I've no idea what the politicians in my ward (Haverstoe) think about the new stadium. Can anybody tell me if any of them are particularly pro or anti? I'll be voting after work.

Old tricks... or boxing clever ?
He has been in local politics quite a long while and knows how to play his hand.....not that i want him to win and agree with your final line but at the end of the day that ward's hottest topic is the stadium so to make progress you have to distract the voters onto something else current,
ie Why hasn't the current ward councillor done something pro active to prevent the gypsys constantly returning to the area rather than just issuing a move along notice every time they return?

Mr DeF has a loyal following but having lived in the ward for 20 yrs I feel that he is a one trick pony. All his leaflets revolve around one thing, the stadium.

Park ward is a large area, from memory it goes up to Littlecoates Rd and in the other direction Ainslie St, now many of those people will be unaffected by the stadium, whether it goes ahead or not. Maybe they have other things that are important to them, maybe pot holes, anti social behaviour or the brown bin collection.

I will be voting later but hope that his loyal following are ultimately out numbered

What he thinks he's a Coventry fan now? "I'm sure it was one of those soccer teams in the Midlands".

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Melanie Onn won Grimsby and Martin Vickers retains Cleethorpes.

Not sure about your park ward.

I'd imagine they do the local election count once the general election one has been carried out? I tend to doubt that newly-elected councillors will look much more favourably on the new stadium application than the last bunch, however.

An almost unbelievable result in the general election as a new coalition seemed the only way that any party would be able to govern. Caught everyone by surprise, that one. It was at least pleasing to see UKIP fail to make any inroads in Grimsby and elsewhere.

God help us with Osborne at the helm of the economy for the next 5 years, that's all I can say. At some point the truth will come out.

No problem.

Many have commented about 'proportional representation in the media for the general election but  nearly 70% of those who could be bothered to get off their arses and vote in Park Ward voted for someone other than DeFrietas!

The rise of UKIP certainly in this local election wise has had a big effect i imagine, looking through ward by ward they pushed the two traditional parties apart and took second place in a large majority of wards, if they were not there who would have got those votes instead?
Will never know now i suppose.

True, time will tell if it is a 'fad', protest vote or a change on the political landscape forever?

Despite what many say i personally am happy that someone got an overall majority nationally, as it would have been far worse for the country had every vote been a game of cat and mouse. We could well have had to do the whole thing again before the year was out

Depends on whether or not we end up exiting Europe following the referendum in 2016. It'll be catastrophic to the economy if we do, but signs are certainly pointing that it could perhaps happen. Expect a pro-Europe onslaught by most of the press in the lead up to the referendum to try and change people's minds.

If there was a 'no' vote, I'd struggle to see UKIP becoming a force in the way that the SNP has. On the other hand, if we were to exit Europe, what would be the point of them?

Whilst I'm generally unhappy that the Tories have increased their strangle hold on power.  I am in agreement that another coalition Government would be the worst thing that could happen for this country. It's also highly unlikely we would get the benefit of deciding again any time within the next five years either.

Under the  Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 calling a snap election isn't that easy any more.  It basically requires a vote of no confidence from two-thirds of the house, a figure that would require rebellion within the Tory ranks to achieve.

FORMER council leader Andrew DeFreitas wept as he announced this will be his last election campaign.

Securing the Park ward, a seat he has represented for more than 30 years, the veteran councillor and leader of the local Lib Dem group said he will serve for a further four years but not contest the seat at the next election.
