Don't want to sound alarmist but the Hillsborough Inquiry the other week suggested a cause of the problem was 23 turnstiles for 24,000 fans. If we've got 2 for 2,500 it's a worse ratio. Hope common sense prevails so we can get in safely and on time.

Common sense works both ways....it would be helpful if Town fans going;

factored in the roadworks and allowed enough time for the journey
didnt turn up p1ssed out of their heads
arrived at the ground early to allow enough time for controlled entry
considered their fellow supporters and the club in all of the above

From what I've seen at Blundell and away days I have been to over the last few years this request may lead to a half empty stand

Don't forget not having lying plods running the show. Like the fellah who admitted after 26 years that he copulated up, and then lied and got his team to doctor evidence. I thought that finally the myth of it all being the fault of "drunken thieving Scousers" would be put to bed now.

Planning the arrival of hordes of Mariners is no easy task apparently - taken from the Alfreton board:

"Segregation plans have been drawn up with the assistance of the Police and bearing in mind our certification from the local authorities. Our ground is not the best designed for big matches and there are only certain points that a segregation can take place whilst guaranteeing the safety of all supporters. We have a duty of care to all that attend every match whether these are home or away supporters, staff, players, Police and everyone else - if we told you how much planning has gone into this one match you wouldn't believe - whilst most of us were tucked up in bed our Safety Officer submitted the final plans for approval from the authorities at 2am this morning and we received the go ahead early this morning.
We would all like every match to be like last Saturday against Barnet - almost 1,000 attendance and no segregation. Unfortunately an expected attendance of over 3,000 presents a whole different measure of problems and some of the decisions are taken out of our hands.
The cost of staging this match will be well into 5 figures and we have done our best to accommodate people as best we can. Home supporters who use the Tom McRoy Stand will naturally be aggrieved although we have taken steps to ensure that season ticket holders in that stand have been seated elsewhere. Our average home support is less than 500 and we have made available space for over 1,000 home supporters which we considered to be sufficient for our needs.
The club apologises in advance to anyone who considers that they have been unfairly treated and if they would like to point out to me how we could have configured the ground another way I for one would be extremely grateful as it will make the next big match planning so much easier !!
We ask for understanding and hope that most will just come and enjoy what could be a memorable day."

Quite interesting seeing some of the comments being directed at the club official that posted that.

I can understand not being happy at having to move from your seat, but surely when they are likely to get a big payday from this they can mitigate it for one game?

Can you imagine the response from ST holders if GTFC decided to move main standers into the Ponny for one match because the away fans requested more tickets?

This is contradicted by the information on Town's website suggesting that only 2 entrances (unless that means 6 turnstiles) will be in operation for away supporters - http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/article/alfreton-information-for-town-fans-2370113.aspx
Quoted Text
Town fans should enter the stadium via 2 entrances off Alma Street. Our supporters will be housed on the open 'Tin End' terrace at one end of the ground and all of the Tom McRoy stand seats both covered and uncovered, all of which can only be accessed through the Alma Street turnstiles only.

It would be nice, and certainly very helpful if Alfreton and GTFC could clarify exactly which turnstiles away supporters can use on Monday. If they only have the usual 2 turnstiles in operation for away fans it will be a complete nightmare.

Just emailed Alfreton. Got a really nice message back from a director. 6 turnstiles for Grimsby fans will be open. For a small club that has between 500-1000 fans per game they have limited resources to call upon I think they are doing everything possible for Town fans I hope they get respected for it.

Don't think many of you will be staying in the home end if you get in, from their board...

There is no way they can prove you are not.  The worse that could happen is a steward coming up to you and saying  ' Are you a Grimsby Town fan?' in which you reply 'no'. Last time I looked there is no law against people from Grimsby supporting Alfreton.

Surely segregation isn't legally enforced. Yes they could ask you to leave but they would need grounds for that.

If you're watching the game like everyone else, remaining sensible, perhaps in fact even communicating with the people around you like normal adults then they'd find it hard to justify chucking you out.

It isn't the 1980s anymore, the days of 'takin their end' are gone...

I suppose it depends on the ground rules and as long as they aren't breaking any anti-discrimination laws they can set their own rules.

I have been to plenty of grounds over the years where they have signs stating that they will eject any away fans found in the home stands.

It would also depend on the stewards and local plod if they wanted to make a statement by ejecting away fans.

I'd guess they're stewards / police will have more important stuff to deal with than ejecting town from the home end , especially if they're not causing problems . Forcibly removing town fans would only cause a flashpoint that would incite trouble

such as monitoring the town fans in the side stand, according to football ground guides there are no advertising boards between the stand and the pitch!!
