Absolutely gutted by today's result - we should never give up a 2 goal lead but... we need to keep things in context.

A month ago we looked out of the automatic promotion race.  We still have a chance.  This could go down to the final day.

13 points from 5 games is a great run.

Chester are one of the form teams in the league.  When I did the promotion calculator last night I had this down as a draw.

Last week showed how one weekend can turn the table around.  There are still 8 more matches to go.

Keep the faith!!

Really scraping the barrel for positives today. We didn't lose and we matched Bristol Rovers is about it. A potentially tough game against Eastleigh next week is now even tougher though. Hope we bounce back better than them!

Keep calm? 2-0 cruising and our manager puts out the most negative message possible. He's going to get some excrement for this which he totally deserves.

We could afford to draw with Eastleigh next week if we had won today,

Now we must beat them if we want to finish top.

True, but I think the point is more about not letting the last 15 minutes of that game wreck the decent run we are on going forward.
Hard to think like that right now tbh

We move on to next game, Eastleigh. I feel sure they will be looking for a win which should make for a good game. We need to be on it from the word go and let them know we mean business. No messing about for this one.

I bet training next week will all be about defending a lead with an emphasis on getting our men behind the ball inviting pressure

And if it works PH will be able to tell his players that's how we'll go against Eastleigh

If we let it slip, never mind...they're on a good vein of form and we should expect them to think they have every chance of getting back in the game even if they've been outplayed for most of it

I have rarely been more annoyed after a Town match.

( I even went to the 5-1 home defeat to Bradford City around 1970).

Too annoyed to read this thread last night. Waking up and trying to rationalise it yeah we need to keep calm etc. Sometimes are reactions can be overly negative (like our managers tactics tbh)

But while statistics show us as being on a good run of form yesterday showed why we all get so annoyed. We have a squad and 1st team that could really dominate this league, but we give that advantage away such that we are still a way behind top spot and need an amazing run to get to where we want to be. We struggle at home but get the results to go on an amazing run and just when it looks like we can do it we shoot ourselves in the foot.  Yes we are unbeaten in 5 now with 4 wins and we can still do it, but calm analysis of yesterdays game shows why many of us (including myself tbh) doubt Hurst can do it. Desperately hope I am wrong!

Sensible and reasoned stuff. Have to say that if I were on the GTFC board (Mr Fenty), I'd be giving him a roundoffucks on Monday morning.

Just keep doing our bit. Get behind the boys, keep the positivity towards the players going, keep the 'events' at each game going right up until the last whistle of the last game. Then, and only then, if Hurst has copulated it go negative!

The thing is that should have been a win and everyone can see that
PH made a tactical error but worse than that he would not admit it which for me is my final loss of faith in him
It means he cannot learn from it and move on better for it
PH you better redeem your self with 3 points against a tough Eastleigh side or for me with games running out we are down for the playoffs and you know what your record is like in them PH
Come on Town!!

Seems to me PH made a switch that backed fired. He had done similar at Eastleigh and we got a positive result with Parslow winning lots in the air. Against Telford he did similar we got across the line.

Yesterday we didn't but that's life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You make decisions based on what you think are right at the time. They may or may not be right in hindsight but you would think by the reaction of some that they were made with the intention of failure.

As someone described on Twitter. The Fishy goes into suicide watch after every point is dropped!

At times, I get the feeling, in certain matches a point will do. I think that's how he'll see the game on Saturday. It keeps them behind us and, who knows, we might catch a lucky one on the break.

A voice of reason, how refreshing.

It makes you wonder about some  who seem to revel in drop points just to have a go at Paul Hurst.

Coming out of the ground yesterday was a bit deflating but I don't think for a minute that Paul Hurst intended to draw the match to spite the fishy. He is an honest bloke who is a confrence manager with conference players who are inconsistent, that's why they are playing and managing here. Anyone got a few million to replace them with premier players and manager?

It's not so much that he cocked up that bothers me. It's the fact that it wasn't convincing when it did work (just), in the previous two matches, it's the comments in the post match interview that annoy me. Not a hint of regret. Not a trace of recognition that he got it wrong. Just the stubborn view that everyone else was wrong and he was right. Which IMO does not bode well for the future.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

For me I wasn't at the game and all I can do is go by what my friends say who listened or was At the game and what it sounds like to me is everyone in the world could see we was comfortable and set for 3 points and he changed it. If they where attacking us and grinding us down and he changed it as we still only got the draw then I think people would be less aggressive.

I agree  with the first two words of this thread.

Paul should have a look at Tim Sherwood' s achievements at Aston Villa in a very short space of time and learn.

Once digested, and the manager's mindset adjusted - just send out an attacking team to destroy the opposition (for ninety minutes ).

Town can win this league, but the manager has to be bold, forthright - now is the time.

Lemmings are (wrongly) renowned for their suicidal tendencies, so that is a terrible definition.

Are you really suggesting that anyone with a dissenting voice is incapable of original thought?

I've said this many, many times....but the club just don't think like winners. They don't act like winners. They don't project it. Hurst is the worst for it. We've got the players and the support, but where is the drive, the self-confidence, the faith in the squad, the big-thinking, attack-minded, winning-mentality (cockiness even) from the Club and it's manager?!?

Nowhere. Too busy looking backwards, worrying about the opposition, playing percentges, being cautious, hedging our bets, playing it safe, keeping it tight, hiding from reality, hoping for the f***ing best. THIS, is what's stopping us winning this sh1t league. Same every year.

Hah! I actually wrote Mr Barton's first name but the Fishy profanity checker changed it.

Only my fifth game of the season - four of them away. I too was dismayed at the consequences of the substitution - it clearly had an impact on the game. I think the confidence that Palmer instills in the rest of the players has a lot to do with the reason they fell apart when he was subbed. Saying that, both goals were mistakes by players in my opinion that shouldn't have happened. Poor substitution or not, they've got to take some of the blame.
A neutral I took to the game said he had never seen a goal that was so inevitable as our second - you just knew we were going to score and we deserved to - we were supremely confident at that point.
On other matters - do I think that Hurst was trying to be clever with his substitution - yes and it clearly backed fired. Should he own up to his mistake - yes he should but a lot of excellent managers never admit their mistakes and that seems to serve their teams and supporters well most of the time.
The sense disappointed was unbelievable at the final whistle - we really blew it but we were an outside chance for the title and we still are and we were pretty nailed on for a play off spot and we still are. Think you can get 6-1 on Town to be champions - maybe not good value but the bookies still think we're in with a chance.

If we had won on Saturday, we would have been more than an outside chance and right in the thick of it but at this stage of the season, you have to take advantage of every slip up by your rivals and that was a guilt edge opportunity gone with poor game management.

I agree with this "keep calm and carry on". We need to look forward, not backwards.

As gutted as we ALL are about the result at Chester, we need to focus on promotion and not let ourselves be distracted by disappointment in the past. Hurst made a mistake that costed us 2 points at Chester, he might never admit it, but everyone knows different. Hurst probably thought we set on to win, which I can probably safely say, we all did, so he tried playing it safe, save ammo sort of speak for Eastleigh maybe, but it obviously backed fired.

This 'MIGHT' of costed us the shot at the tittle, but like it has been for a while now, it's a dependant on other results elsewhere, even if we win every game from now on.

Play off's on the other hand, I'm pretty confident we've sealed a place. But, I believe Hurst and his squad will be aiming to win every game and aiming for the tittle.

Many, including myself, said they'd be more twists and turns yet.I still think there will be. But we need to focus on what's next. As fans all we can do is hope for the best.

We need to send a 'POSITIVE' message to Hurst and his men on Saturday, we need to make them believe that we still believe we are going up! Even if you don't believe it, just pretend to, never know, you might be pleasantly surprised.

The only way is up, onwards and upwards! UTM

Absolutely - I couldn't agree more. If this had been at the start of the season it wouldn't feel the same or be the same. I still genuinely think we'll go up. The management of that game was naïve and clueless and I can see it may cost us dearly. It's made all the more difficult to swallow because we were bossing it so clearly.

None of the other teams are going to want to meet us in the play-offs. I just wanted to remain positive.

Eastleigh is a big game! We need to win this one to make our playoff place more or less certain. Let's hope Town can put on a good show and get the result we all want and also hope other results go our way too, we could be 2 points off top spot Ssturday.

I quite like that scenario Chris but call me for being negative about what should be a positive position, I will still be thinking "If only we hadn't sacrificed those two points on Saturday just gone"

chaos33, I fully agree with you (again).

Maybe we should both change our usernames?

In the final analysis if we fall short of being Champions at the end of the season IMO it won't be because of the two points dropped at Chester , it will be more down to the SIX points thrown away at home to Macc and Lincoln. Too many poor home results have cost us the opportunity to finish as Champions.

For being positive

No for making inane comments about posts on here that have nothing to do with what they actually said, thus provoking further comments.

"Lemmings".

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Lemmings are (wrongly) renowned for their suicidal tendencies, so that is a terrible definition.

Are you really suggesting that anyone with a dissenting voice is incapable of original thought?
