Have I imagined this, and if not can anyone help me pin it down?
I'm pretty sure that for some seasons, the Match of the Day intro included a clip of Tony Ford celebrating one of his goals against Portsmouth in 1979.
I want to approach the BBC for permission to use a still in the Grimsby anthology, but it would obviously help if I knew what on earth I was talking about before I try and talk to them. Can anyone confirm I am right and when they used the clip in their intro.

No sign of that goal for me, remember the day well as we drew with Grimsby Amateurs in cup quarter final, I scored winner in replay on George V the following week and then broke me leg in semi final v App Frod.
Think it was first time town had ever been on MoD. Start of a golden period in our history

They were on a few years earlier away to Bournemouth, Lawrie Mac was manager
Goalie Ian Turner injured a hand during the game, so played outfield for while before being substituted. Clive Wiggington went in goal

I went to that game on the old supporters bus, set off at midnight and got there about 6.00am.

The intro is here, not sure which bit you're referring to though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-eM1N8Nx08
No its not the current credits- it was some years ago. There's a few on You Tube but none the one I remember (or have imagined)

Can I be the first to ask "Why"?

Why did I go or why did we set off at 12.00am. Probably because Sid who used to organise the bus wanted to make sure we got there on time. We all ended up wandering around the sea front at some God forsaken hour.

Your dead right I played in that game, it was also on the local Television and guess who was Bournmouths Manager the Great Harry Redknap who obviously went onto bigger things. Dave Boylen

Cheers, again if I remember right it was a pacey breakaway so it had to be JL or SB but it was a long time ago and most of us on the bus hadn't slept the night before.

That was a long way to go back in the day with not much of the journey being by motorway...remember doing an overnight drive in my old banger a couple of years later and it seemed like the road to Bournemouth was unending Didn't go to this particular game as I was limited to local derbies and not allowed to go further afield being a kid but the team from that day / that era stirs some great memories 1. Turner 2. Campbell 3. Booth 4. Czuczman 5. Wiggington 6. Gray 7. Brace 8. Hickman 9. Hubbard 10. Boylen 11. Gauden 12. Lewis

We won at Bournemouth (I think) at some time around 1973/74 and it was on MOTD.

Have to say I do not remember us being on MOTD against Bournemouth in the seventies or ever come to that, appreciate ITV covered these type of matches but no recollection of this at all. Getting concerned as normally this is the type of irrelevant fact I have stored away in the memory bank but not this time. Still I await proof before seeing the doc to check for early signs of dementia

I've just dug out the programme-bizarrely there are no teams showing anywhere in it. However a quick look at the appearances so far shows one H. Redknapp on 29 appearances with one goal so he must have been pretty much a fixture in their team that season...
