Great! Thanks Les. For years I've always driven but it tires me out a bit these days and have started to use the train but half the time end up paying too much. I appreciate your and others help and advice. Hope we take a decent crowd there and get a win.
Buying a 2 together rail card £30 is a must if you use trains a lot. Even if you don't and make a fairly expensive journey, you can get all or most of it back on one trip as it knocks off a third. Breaking your journey up and buying several tickets to your destination instead of one straight through ticket can also work out cheaper. Getting off peak trains is another way of getting down the prices ie don't travel during rush hours. Booking well in advance can save a packet if you know where and when you are going in good time. Train ticketing prices are convoluted and designed to rip you off and we have some of the dearest train journeys in the world in this country. It's a scandal. The money saving expert site has more info if you want to check it out. If you plan carefully, train travel can work out cheaper than petrol and car parking charges. We use trains a lot.

I've just booked tickets for Amsterdam to Osnabruck in Germany for the week before Easter 39 euros return for two of us...... Gy to Doncaster is about £18.00 full price The 2 together card is brilliant. Have had to go to Cumbria three times since August £200.00 for two return reduced to £132 which is still too much! Saved £180 on those alone. Add to that two trips to London and it could be said to have paid for itself!

If you can get to Scunny, and you don't mind a longer journey, then you can get the 'Megabus Plus' which is a coach from Hull, stopping at Scunny and dropping off at East Midlands Parkway where you catch a train for the rest of the journey to Kings X. Usually costs about 13 quid each way.

St Pancras not Kings Cross.

You thinking of going? Could be heading over from the Dub myself.

Am planning too. Will be flying from Belfast and making a weekend of it, catching up with old friends.
