Time to bow out gracefully tomorrow methinks. Play the kids, if we win great, if we don't great.

Edit: Wednesday, not tomorrow. Even more reason to bin it off with less recovery time.

100% agree. Im afraid prior to playing barnet on Saturday, putting out a strong side paramounts in neglect and shows more intention toward potential Wembley money rather than promotion which will to me question the running of the club and fenty's intentions massively.

Got to be the fringe players on Wednesday. Win or lose The Heed will kick lumps out of the 1st teamers just to stop us getting something from the Barnet game. No brainer Mr Hurst.

There is a few players that need game time to keep in the frame and up to speed, so use them , unless he thinks there is no chance of getting promoted as many think that is how it will pan out

Can't be bothered with the Cup draw.  A win at Wembley would mean nowt if we are still in the Premier next season.

Surely last 30m on Sat should have been poo or bust given WED replay before Barnet game.  Doesn't sound like we went for the jugular

Which if it's as "inspiring" as it was on Saturday could mean we well end up with another stalemate over the 90 minutes

Assuming it does go to extra time and then pens even, our team won't be getting in to their beds until the early hours of Thursday

Given that we have an early kick off on Saturday, that is surely going to impact on our performance against the league leaders (if we do decide to make a game of it that is and don't just settle for another mind-numbing cancel each other out type of game)

Hopefully we'll be out of the Trophy come Thursday morning. I'm quite looking forward to Nuneaton away on 24th, so please Mr Hurst, don't ruin my plans.

We've got Jason Pearcey, number one, we've got the best team in the land...

I would think Wednesday will see our lowest away support for a competitive game for a long time.

Any player that he intends to start on Saturday should be left at home. (Plus I'm aiming to got Barnet away!)

For me the game on Saturday shows Hurst in his true light. Knowing Gateshead wouldn't agree to a replay, he should either have played a scratch team or played an attacking line up and gone for it excrement or bust if he wants us to progress.

Instead we got the usual shotless, goalless, cautious approach which benefits no-one. If ever there was a time to go gung ho it was Saturday. Now we have a game we didn't want or need and knowing him, he will pick a strong-ish side, looking to knick a result.

A couple of good excuses for Mr Hurst if we lose on Saturday.

We're all well aware of how the majority of people on here (myself included) view this competition, but I think we're possibly doing a disservice to the FA Trophy in terms of what it means to the players and manager.

I recently read the part of Macca's autobiography where he spoke about Wembley in 1998, what it meant to him and his family and the impact it had on everyone at the club. You can't underestimate what it means to a manager and a squad of players to walk out at Wembley when you've spent your life dreaming of such an occasion.

I know it isn't the same as 98, I know we're 2 leagues further down & I know priorities are different, but it's a tad disrespectful to make comments like "he's after the Wembley money".

Perhaps a win on Wednesday will create a bit of confidence for Saturday,---- someone has to try and balance an argument

I'd rather us be at Wembley in the play-off final than the Trophy final - given a choice that is!

Great for me if we get through, not to far to travel if I want to go. Still think we should play the reserves and just see if we get through rather then taking it seriously

There is no way the gate would be over 20k if we got to the final. Play the youth team on Wednesday.

Gary Mills has challenged his Gateshead side to “finish the job” as they prepare to welcome Grimsby Town to the International Stadium on Wednesday, following a dour stalemate in their FA Trophy second- round tie at a blustery Blundell Park.

The Conference rivals played out a largely forgettable 90 minutes yesterday – in complete contrast to their last two meetings, which have produced 11 goals between them.

The Tynesiders will now have to overcome a replay to secure their passage to the last 16 – but Mills was content to come away from an intimidating venue unscathed.

He said: “This is cup football – when we don’t win, we have to make sure we do enough to take them back to our place.

“What has pleased me, in particular, was the clean sheet.

“We’ve not had enough of them this season, and Grimsby is an excellent place to come and get one.

“We’re still in the hat – and we have to make sure we go and finish the job on Wednesday.”
