Yeah it was, many times.

Our major shareholder said that the debts we had were to him and the taxman. We would still have to pay the entire tax bill and for him to enter administration would mean that the debt to him would be taken from asset stripping the club, which he wasn't prepared to do. Going into administration would have saved us nothing in real terms, merely lost the clubs assets and him a significant percentage of his investment, which he has stated many times is the much maligned "benign debt" (I think this is correct from my recollection of the statements he has made over the years. Correct me if there are other things I have misinterpreted or are plain wrong...)

I get all that but did the Club benifit in the long run ??

The way Leicester City went about it always annoys me. Think they owed the best part of 100m. Gary Lineker and co steps in and its all wiped.

Hey ho its xmas and they'll be getting relegated in May anyhow

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

On the other hand at least half a dozen have ceased to exist for at least a period in any form, and several others have had to start from scratch in the depths of non-league. Administration is Russian Roulette, there's no guarantee you'll come out of it better off.

Still doesn't detract from the matter that  they have used the system to gain some sort of financial advantage . The likes of Farsley Weymouth Maidstone Salisbury aren't what you would call footballing hotbeds , living within your means and playing by the rules doesn't appear to be in the majority of these teams vocabulary .

I reckon there are 10 clubs on that list that either no longer exist or have spawned a phoenix club.

Newport, Aldershot, Maidstone, Chester, Halifax, Wimbledon, Darlington, Farsley, Salisbury and R&D.

At the end of the day though it's pretty pointless debating what would have happened had we gone into admin as we'll never know now. We could well have become another Southampton, Leicester or even Bournemouth but then again we could also just as easily have become another Chester, Maidstone or Rushden & Diamonds.

A well balanced view on the whole administration scenario , Les. It's the great unknown and it's easier to quote teams that have done ok out of it and ignore those that have suffered.
