There's a charity called "parity" who took the government to court about prescription charges being free for women over 60 and men over 65 and won.
I would imagine that this may be considered discrimination but there's not much you can do other than suggest this to the turnstile operator on Saturday

Quoted Text
Yeah, sex discrimination. If you ignore the national state pension ages at least.
They don't now, a woman who is sixty now does not get her state pension until she is over 65. Soon it will be 66, the same as a man.

No, because all children below a certain age pay £1, It's not boys below 15 and girls below 13 !

I suppose it dates back to the original state pension ages, not to be confused with retirement age. The latter doesn't exist legally any more. I always used to get annoyed when I was a member of Total Fitness. They gave a 30% discount to over 55s. Same facilities, no restrictions. Straightforward age discrimination IMHO.

Well that's one way to look at it. I personally think commercial organisations (not to be confused with "democratic rights" ?) should have the ability to generally set prices however they wish. I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong but if the club are following the principle of general retirement age (or maybe it's "original state pension ages" sorry !) it sounds reasonable enough to me.

Is a club allowed to change admission prices to suit? I.e. If a team is taking a sizeable following last game of the season (hopefully us at southport) adding £3 on the ticket price for visiting fans.

It's a whole grey area (no pun intended). There is also quite a bit of difference between clubs. I think Lincoln's OAP rate for me is 60, whereas ours is 65. Sorry if this isn't correct, my father used to complain about this!! Moan actually.

I always thought the club has to charge the same for home and away fans. Something done during the height of the trouble, to reduce the chances of away fans ending up in home areas. Might be wrong.

I think they cannot charge more than the equivalent type of seating standing for home fans. Some teams (eg Macclesfield I think). categorise matches AB or C and charge more when they play teams like us, Wrexham and Luton

Obviously some women have retired, or I should say are receiving a state pension. Perhaps clubs should base their concessions on proof of a bus pass or state pension. Age is less important, as the pension age has changed/is changing depending on when you were born.

Prices for Altrincham..... Read more at http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/article/altrincham-tickets-2080798.aspx#d7C96SbFtcubJxRD.99Isn't this sex discrimination, it should be both at 60 or both at 65 !
What does the Equality Act cover?The Equality Act contains provisions making it unlawful to discriminate against a person based on their age (amongst other categories including, for example, sex, race, religion or belief or disability) in:
Employment, training and education;
Membership of associations and clubs (with some exceptions);
Provision of goods and services.So there may well be case.

Age discrimination does not apply to under 18s so clubs etc can offer cheaper prices to children.

In certain cases age discrimination is allowed such as free prescriptions for the over 60s or free bus passes for those over state retirement age.
Just thought I would mention just in case a load of you storm down to the council offices demanding your bus pass or give the chemist some grief.

Back to the original post, it's not age that the problem it is the difference between male and female in this case.

Match day prices for adults are the same whichever stand you go in including away fans and are £18.00 (early bird £16.00) with the exception of the Upper Findus which is £18.00 with no early bird price.

Me and my sister went to a Hartlepool game in the 1980s and there was a turnstile for men and another for boys. I think she went in the men's turnstile with me but she was the only woman on the terrace.

Well to be fair they (women) shouldnt be at football matches anyway so surely its irrellivant? IMO if a woman tries to get in to B.P she should be asked to explain the offside rule and if she cant give a correct answer should be turned away and advised to return home and pull the twin tub out and get her fella's (presuming she has one but if she wants to go to the footy there is a good chance she is a munter and therefore single) washing on ready for Monday morning before preparing the veg ready for Sunday lunch. Women ....know your place!! Dont condone...you know you are all thinking it

Surely a freshly prepared meal for when the male returns from the match ?
not a bad point but real men dont return til closing time so no meal required...

I got into Wrexham the other week as an OAP when I accidentally went through the wrong entrance, they just said £15 please and gave me the ticket. I know I'm turning a bit grey but I have all my hair and I only just turned 51 a couple of days before.
