I was one of them that was getting annoyed with the loss to southport and draw with altrincham. But, another victory, albeit not pretty by all accounts and into 2nd place.

Well done Paul. Well done also to the shop.

Just wonder how quite it will be tonight???? The allotmenteers must hate us being successful

if i'm honest PH has completely changed my opinion on him, i was one of the people calling for his head, do i take back what i said at the time? Absolutely not! I Seriously think the criticism and the people on his back could have been possibly what's changed this team around...

I think it was more down to injured and suspended players returning plus the new players gelling with the existing players and he may have had a kick up the backside from the board.

Well done Town. Good run but I'm not changing my opinion of Hurst just yet. We've achieved nothing yet. We're only 2nd temporarily - the other teams have all got games in hand and we could be in 8th if they win those games in hand!

As for the change in results, its simply down to Lennie finally finding his scoring boots.

Well done to PH and the team for a great run of results. However to flip it on its head we go on a run like this every season PH has been at the club before xmas. Its now about kicking on and taking it one stage further. The warning is we have achieved nothing yet so lets no get complacent.

Yes, I'll be doubting Hurst's ability if we don't play and slip to 8th too !

Yep I'm eating humble pie as well. Said at the time I'd love to be proved wrong and at the minute I am definitely loving it! Hopefully I can say the same in may.

The point is when the team aren't playing well and achieving there will be criticsm if they are playing well and winning they will get praise I can't understand the fans that don't understand that. There were no doubters just individuals not liking what they see, and expressing their opinion. I personally would be as happy as anyone if PH proves me wrong. i would take no pleasure in us dropping like a stone and saying I told you so.

People getting on the players' and manager's backs has absolutely nothing to do with the turn around
A settled team, a centre forward who is scoring, a change of luck, players coming back from injury, a team gelling...these are some of the reasons why we are on a great run

Apart from Barnet (at the minute) it's an incredibly tight league and it will be one of those seasons where getting into the play offs will be a hell of an achievement with 7-10 clubs about at the same level...we are one of those teams but I think we have the potential to really kick on with what is looking like a very solid team, better attacking options than last season, and a much more dynamic centre midfield

At the moment the league position is almost irrelevant cos the points spread among top 10 is so tight; points on the board is what matters.

Rewinding a few weeks I thought we played really well v Altrincham and got a point; we play pretty poorly tonight, disjointed performance etc and we win.
Just proves the game is 100% about getting 3pts

He wasn't a goalscorer - to a great degree - but he is now. As a physical lead the line / front man he has been good. Given the better service now (he will still miss goal attempts sometimes)  and the producing of goals (he could be worth a lot of money shortly) - we must hold on to him. Paul has built around him  - Paul could be right -
(the biggest risk in this strategy is him getting injured - but you can say that for any human  team strategy) .

Mmmmm, I make it would be 7th in the league, at worst, if the all win their games in hand. That is unless Torquay can bang 11 goals and none conceded in two matches.
So to to me it's good progress up the league.

Don't be a numpty. My comment was in response to another poster that basically stood by their previous criticism of PH and bizarrely was claiming credit for the upturn in form due to this.

Well that's precisely what could happen: Gateshead, Halifax, BRovers,  Woking and FGR are within two points and have at least a game in hand each. Eastleigh are 4 points behind with 2 games in hand.

My ist post so be gentle with me! I'm positive at times and negative at times but like everyone else here I love town and believe town are always going to win 3 or 4 nil, but then again I've thought that since my 1st match as a 12year old in 1972.
Norwich City in the cup, 1-1 draw  20 odd thousand there and I was hooked for life.
Let's keep right behind the team and manager and get back in the league. We can only do it together.

No 6 teams (not including Torquay) could overtake us by winning their games in hand .

As for Torquay improving their GD by +11 in 2 games......it's not so far fetched. Just look at what we did at the end of August!

I will continue to doubt Hurst until the final whistle of the game that seals us promotion. Just the way i am with Town nowadays, no belief in them anymore after the decline to non league.

The trouble with this league is only two go up, look at the football promotion and relegation places above and below us in the pyramid and it's criminal.

Halifax's game in hand is against FGR so they both can't pass us (by which time the table could be completely different anyway) (Christ, I can't believe I checked fixtures for 4 weeks time)

Agree. Seeing is believing. It's the 4th November. I hope celebration time will come but it won't get to my house until next April. One small step tonight. No more, no less.

Odd - don't trust '****' Barton. I replied 30 minutes ago that I thought Doug Livermore scored for Norwich and Stewart Gray equalised for Grimsby  and my memory  (bizarrely) was from the Osmond Stand and when I posted this - 'Dear male private' headed this, which I had not written. So I deleted it.

Let's se what happens this time.

There are 27 games to go so it's a bit early to debate the finer points of the table.

Let's just enjoy being second.  A great run of results and three games without conceding a goal.

We were in the bottom half a few weeks back.  We aren't now.

Just to confirm that when you reply to '****' Barton - it records 'male private' - for any one's future reference - including administrators.

PS - date 09 11 14

I reported to the Administrator that a reply to Richard Barton results in 'male private' being substituted for 'Richard'  in the text that  it looks like I have written. There has been no response from the Administrator. In fact, the only outcome of this is that a poster called  'Civvy at Last' has recorded a 'negative' for my reputation.
I have had to write Richard as ' male private' gets substituted for the other word i.e. 'D*ck'

All the best to the good guys.

I'll go back to supporting Grimsby Town in silence.

15/11/14

Administrators have not investigated / resolved this, which leads me to believe they are D*ck Barton. I will now remove Teestogreen from this BB, as I consider this forum unsafe.

UTM and all the best to Grimsby Town followers.

Note: the administrators will not allow me to leave this forum

Appreciate your point based on all tonight's reports.

Suppose I'm looking at it down the "if we can win when we're not 100% flying, where will we be if/when it all comes together"  type thingy.

Perhaps it was all about the result tonight or you'll never see classic football at Braintree.

There are 27 games to go so it's a bit early to debate the finer points of the table.

Let's just enjoy being second.  A great run of results and three games without conceding a goal.

We were in the bottom half a few weeks back.  We aren't now.

Not quite sure what you mean mate. As I mentioned I am new to this.

I was behind the goal in the pontoon stand. didn't see much of the game tbh but the atmosphere was fantastic.

I still am a doubter going on past experiences.. ok form has turned around we've won several on the bounce yes we are now second but let's not forget September 1st 2001(the same day when England beat Germany 5-1 on their own turf)  when we climbed to the dizzy heights of 1st position of what is now the championship and where we ended up in the league....  RELEGATED!!! so let's calm down with "we're second " let's see how the ground lies when the games played are even....

Halifax's game in hand is against FGR so they both can't pass us (by which time the table could be completely different anyway) (Christ, I can't believe I checked fixtures for 4 weeks time)

Don't forget aswell, FGR have pending 3 point deduction too

Why must we have this "I told you we were right" gloating after every win or loss? It's getting so tedious!!!

I have been a middle of the road man myself, not a known blind backer of Hurst in the recent past but also willing to give him every chance to succeed, I am well pleased with last nights effort and points at tricky Braintree but have my feet firmly on the ground regarding our position in the league at the moment.

I still believe that with a bit of luck and a fair wind this team and manager can do something special this season.UTM

We didn't get relegated that year. Year after I think 2002-03.

Without a doubt we are going to have ups and downs throughout the season. Ideally people will not go overboard when we lose or get ahead of themselves when we win.

For me, the performances arent a million miles better than at any other times but simply the ball is going in the net at one end and we are keeping them out at the other. Just shows that peoples anger/joy are very much results dependent.

Like many others i do feel the team and squad are much stronger than last season. I found in a coat pocket the other day the team sheet for the away Trophy semi at Cambridge. The current team are far better than the side that day.

Long may it continue

sorry yes my mistake it was the year after.. But we only did just avoid relegation, but my main point being in my original post was to point out the fact like in 2001 when we went top of division 1 (old div 2) is that we only went to that position because no one else round us was playing. they now have games in hand on us .. so lets just see where the ground lies when we've all played an equal amount of games....  But thank you for correcting my years for me...

I was initially strongly for Paul Hurst and really felt he was going to turn it around for the club, but in recent months I had to admit my faith in him was seriously getting shaky with some very poor results and some urine poor games.

But I have to say he and the team have really turned it around again and it's making me quietly confident and excited again. Hoping to come up to the Oxford game on Saturday and hoping we can turn them over

We are never going to win every game by 3 or 4 goals playing 4-5-1 but if we keep a lot of clean sheets we are going to win most games with a few draws thrown in and the occasional defeat. For a team with the fourth largest budget we're about where we should be at the moment. In fact we're ahead of all the teams with bigger budgets. But if LJL keeps converting some of the chances which come his way then we can at least stay where we are and hopefully challenge Barnet. It could be the reverse of the season we got relegated when it turned out to be us and Barnet battling for one spot. Key to me is to not play our best players in the FAT and to play the loan market well when we need to.

Grinding out results , but at what cost . Six bookings last night hopefully no injuries . Us with long memories remember we played some beautiful football which was a joy to watch . This division isn't pretty and grinding might be the only way for us to get out .
As Mariner 78 says wait till the end of the season to see where the land lies . Many more ups and downs before season ends .

Think it was October 1971, and there were 22000 there I think, my recollection is Paddon scored for Norwich but a while ago now. Remember having the day off school to attend the replay which we lost 3-1.

I don't think the bookings last night are necessarily representative of how we play. From listening to the commentary, the referee has prior form on dishing out bookings, like sweets on halloween!

I didn't say we we're dirty , but some officials do seem to have preconceived ideas just because we are who we are . These bookings from inadequate officials could cost us in the long run . Brown is one away from a ban as soon as he is back to fitness .
Goes back to the old conspiracies , keep better supported teams in this division to prop up the others by any means possible , allegedly .

To be fair, I don't think you can argue with most of Brown's bookings. He's certainly given our opponents hefty whacks on a number of occasions! I suppose the positive is that he's at least getting the bookings for something worthwhile as opposed to something stupid like mouthing off at the referee.

Could we not just name Brown as a sub and get him booked while on the bench for something so he'd miss a game whilst injured?

Well whatever happened post-Altrincham had the desired effect. Whilst we'd like to be entertained, results are the be-all and end-all and the club desperately needs promotion as has been made clear by the accounts. We cannot and should not expect Mr Fenty to prop up loss after loss whether or not we blame him for where we are.

I'm not a Paul Hurst fan but I will give him credit for the recent run and for clearly getting the players behind him. But let's be right, the time to judge isn't now and there's bound to be many bumps in the road, so let's wait and see where we are at the end of the season.

I agree with you. The end of the season is the time for pats on the back or axes on the neck.

Just watched the Braintree "highlights" though and if they are even 25% like a reflection of the game, Braintree were absolute crap. With the amount of possession we had the game should have been over after half an hour. Why are we still not killing sides off? Why are we leaving LJL on his own up there when it's obvious the opposition is there for the taking? Why are we just plodding along hoping for a break even after an hour? There were some terrible final passes and even the goal was the result of a pathetic attempt at a save from a dribbling shot that the Braintree keeper pushed straight out in front of him. Braintree looked like a pub team and we played like a Lincs League team. The difference between the sides was that we gave the ball away slightly less than they did. Good enough for 3 points but hardly impressive and certainly not going to frighten Barnet. Whatever Hurst says, this was not a hard game and we could and should have walked all over them.

Highlight of the night - so many Town fans turning up at a ground of the kind we used to laugh at when we were a real football club.

It's a long way to go yet in more ways than one.

Yeah - marvellous how all along it turns out they were actually deploying "reverse psychology" when many of us thought they were just being unreasonable, impatient, repetitive and lacking in balanced judgement.

If only we had realised they were applying advanced mind games...keep it up!

Or maybe it just takes more than 3 points that should be a given to get absolutely everyone feverishly excited?

I'd just like to re validate my point has some people do not understand what i mean.

all i'm saying is did it take a bit of pressure people on his back to realize what his main job is here, to get it drilled into the players how important it is too go out there and play with there hearts. It made him look at what he was doing wrong and change that, the players saw his neck was on the line and they respected him so the fought for his place and right to be the manager of a team who wants to be on the way back up.

I'd also like to note i said that is what possibly has, not what definitely has.

No not at all. Where have I said I was disappointed with the win? Just because I'm not ecstatic that we are 2nd and that we managed to finally beat a poor part time team, it doesn't mean I am disappointed. We've had these Autumn surges the previous 3 years so forgive me if I'm not getting carried away.

I'm not impressed with Hurst or how well we are doing this season or any of the last few seasons (or several). But I was pleased we won. Actually "pleased" is probably too strong a word - relieved might be better. I can't see us getting promoted either automatically or via the play offs but I'll be bloody delighted if we do though.

I must have missed the feverish excitement of the past 36 hours. Think most people just seem pleased that we're putting a little run together and heading in the right direction. Long way to go but more reason for optimism than a couple of months ago. I'll worry about five teams going above us when it happens.

Positive for me is that we won the game be it from a mistake from the goalkeeper, negative has to be that we made it hard work for a promotion hunting team, but beggars can`t be choosers

and in every game of football ever played!!!

Lol yes indeed !

Sorry I meant VERY GOOD chances and a few mistakes (so thanks for bringing it up)

Hope you appreciate the point it's not just the manager who shoulders sole responsibility once players cross the white line.
Sure we can all remember 3 man wrigglegate (and the 1 yard miss).
Ultimately it boils to what you deem as acceptable from the players and where you draw the line.

From November 2014 - no response but the suspects on the same thread are all around tonight.

Anyway, the main thing is that GTFC get promotion.

Do you totally not get swear filters, or are you saying something else?

I'm baffled.

I'm with you, I have no idea what he is going on about.

Perhaps he could hand out some of what he is smoking.

No thanks mate, have you seen the effects? I already jog back half way down the street to check if I have locked my door, not sure what the aforementioned substance would do to me!!

I'm as sweary as they come and not offended by very much at all. Therefore my swear filter is off. It's very easy to do and I'd suggest any user with problem of either censoring or indeed taking offends at sweariness, adjusts the filter settings as described above. It's very easy and clears up any misunderstanding.

The swear filter is actually a cerebral implant the we have inserted into you all whilst you sleep. It's got a number of other interesting features such as settings for Alan Buckley, 80's hooligans, flasks and Lincoln City.
It's funny cos it's true.

Well done Paul. Well done also to the shop.

Just wonder how quite it will be tonight???? The allotmenteers must hate us being successful
Well done Paul just hope we keep it going

Good signings, great results, just Ollie to sort out by Feb 2nd, got rid of midweek games, Happy Forum, just need another supporter to win one of the lotteries and bang some more cash into the club, eh???

I was at a stupid o'clock business meeting this morning, and what did we talk about - new signings, next games and will Ollie stay...?? At 6.30am for God's sake !!
