Didn't Alan Buckley say that he had problems getting players to come here and we were a league club then. You mentioned Luton, Cambridge and Barnet but these clubs are close to or part of London so players in the largest conurbation in the country don't have to move accommodation or endure long commutes to play. Obviously that doesn't apply to York but geographical position can play a large part in determining whether a player moves to a club or not.

The AFC Wimbledon side is a good example of what you mean and certainly Barnet do get loan players from the likes of Millwall and juniors from Arsenal and so on. But if you look at Barnet's current squad they are from all over the place. Geography does play a part but it isn't everything. Money plays a part but it isn't everything either. I am still of the opinion that the answer lies in Hurst's own words - he wants someone to bring competition to the players he has. Therefore he is saying to any would-be signing that they could be on the bench at least as much as they will be on the field. That, plus the fact that strikers coming here seem to see their goals dry up remarkably quickly, is the deciding factor I reckon.

“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”
