What a waste of time that was,
We did not start to play until the last 10 minutes,
No idea going forward, Hannah when not offside had two good chances,
The 1st his header was nearer the corner post than the goal,
The 2nd fired high over the bar,
Paddy is not a winger and Jack on the other side was poor,
John Lewis put the pen away very nicely but that's about all he did,
Impressed with Parslow and Magnay along with Toto and Pearson,
Scott Neilson was sat on the bench ( don't ask me why )
Started us off playing when he came on, if he had started I think we would have won the game,
Clay was on the bench but I understood that seeing as he has had a bug during the week,
Managed a quick hello to John Fenty after the game,
He looked and sounded more pis sed off than me,
Nice little ground and a friendly club was the best part of the day.
Plus my concerns about the rain was unfounded,
Although we had the 3 hours of heavy rain, the pitch was very good.
So we can not blame that, we are just not good enough.

Don't disagree with much of that but thought Toto was a liability. Brown was shite too and Disley should've buried that sitter at the end.
For someone whose only contribution really is goals, the self-proclaimed 'goal machine', Ross Hannah, doesn't seem to score very many.
Thought LJL played well but still missed a couple of good chances.
Going nowhere fast. Hurst out.

Well they have got a month to get their act together before I see them play again at Braintree, I wonder if we will have the same manager for that game.

The 1st his header was nearer the corner post than the goal,
To be fair it sounded on the commentary like the whole team, esp Hannah were caught unawares by a freak incident on the field; A good Town corner.
Still baffled by this strange omission from our game.

If Alfie is right and there is a board meeting on Monday about Hurst, He might not be our manager on Tuesday. So that would increase the crowd whoever is in charge.

Well if John is reading these posts I would just like to say ,that us more senior posters have a significant number of cumulative years of supporting Grimsby Town,we have a great deal of passion and emotional energy invested in this club.
We appreciate that you do too,as well as a considerable financial investment.Being in positions of authority entails having to make difficult decisions .Now is the time that you have to make one of onerous decisions.
Do you think Paul Hirst can improve our performances?
I would state that he started the season off unprepared in terms of strikers, remember the hairs on the back of our necks? Why was Clayton McDonald released to be replaced by a centre half who is not of his standard? Why has he consistently failed to get a striker on loan? Why does he persist as LJL as our main striker whilst he is very limited in terms of scoring? Why is our form so inconsistent? Have you confidence in Paul Hirst to improve things? Satisfy yourself with the answers to these questions and the decision will make itself.

Though Hannah was poor apart from a great shot from 30 odd yards 1st half. Paddy is not a winger as long as I've got a hole in my bottom. We are so frustrating and I'm not sure why. Plus if LJL does that finger to the mouth thing again, I am gonna start booing him, he needs to work on scoring as many as possible, not giving excrement back to the fans as they are not the ones shanking it from a couple of yards out.

Well after venting my spleen about LJL on my phone can give a proper reflection on the match now.
We played against a very poor Dartford side who lacked the fight they had last season, and were flipping lucky to escape with a point. That Hurst seems to think we played well in the interview baffles me, we were as bad as I have seen us this season. At HT I said to my brother try picking a MOM for Town and neither of us could muster a name. Our defence looked reasonable, Magnay in particular I thought played well.
Midfield was poor, Jack still looks too lightweight to make an impact but at least he ran at players and offered something, Paddy offered our only shot on target of the 1st half IIRC but still looks like a misplaced man as a winger. Scott Brown had the first bad game I have seen from him, gave the ball away a lot today, and much as I like Disley I genuinely didn't really notice him except on 1 or 2 occasions for the entire match. Neilson showed why being on the bench was madness as he came on and was our most creative player.
Up front Ross Hannah had a good effort go just wide but did very little else, offered some good runs wide I suppose. The Shop was very poor, with a poor touch and losing the ball often, won the peno which he took excellently but ruined by being content with that rather than trying to get us a winner.
Our "manager" did nothing, he made 2 like for like changes but when it was becoming increasingly obvious we needed to change something to get a result he dawdled. Yes we got a point but that was lucky and we shouldn't settle for that as Dartford were very poor. if JF is reading this then I agree with others on here saying make a reflective judgement not a snap decision. But for me today has confirmed that Hurst will not take us up. I am so hoping I will be wrong but I just cannot see it and p*****d off with a performance that was so poor being treated as a point gained, not 2 dropped which it clearly is.

We have a number of players (and the team) that are not playing anywhere their true potential. Or their form varies considerably. The prime responsibility for this rests with any manager. The buck stops with Hurst.

Anyone know why Hurst kept the Shop on when he was clearly limping, and took Hannah off instead? And don't give me any balderdash about Shop winning a penalty and scoring - we were very lucky to get given a pen.
Shop was a liability today. Every attack broke down when he got involved. Couldn't control the ball. Couldn't win a header. Hannah was wasteful too but at least he was involved in creating chances.
Hurst is a stubborn illegitimate who should be looking for a new job on Monday.

I just think our midfield and strikers were very poor today, If we did nor get the pen I could not see us scoring, The only time I saw any encouragement from the bench is when Dog got up and shouted at them, Before that Hurst and I do not know why Moore stood closed mouthed at the touch line.

My views:- Was very surprised to see Neilson relegated to the bench. Town started fairly brightly with MacReth carrying on where he left off on Tuesday with a couple of decent runs. Alas this promise lasted no longer than ten minutes before Tuesday's failings came to the fore. Poor distribution from a midfield that missed Clay's cool head terribly and simply dreadful "finishing" when anywhere near the goal. Lenny was poor but for a player who claims to thrive off service Hannah was quite simply appalling. He saw plenty of the ball but his first half was summed up by being 12 yards from goal and unmarked with time to either bring the ball down and shoot or plant a firm header goalwards. Seemingly caught in two minds he did neither and glanced his header nearer the corner flag than the goal. Once the desired effect of passing through the midfield failed to boost the team our back four decided that they would revert to hoofing the ball in the general direction of Lenny who as already mentioned was poor. Nothing stuck and Dartford were let off the hook. Our only on target shot in the first half came from Paddy but was to the near post from a poor angle and, although well hit, had little chance of finding the net and the keeper (who looked nervous throughout) made a comfortable save. Second half was pretty much more of the same. They scored-an unmarked header which must worry the management team. Neilson came on and offered something more than MacReth (which alas wasn't difficult) although some of the comments I've read on here seem to be portraying him as the teams saviour describing him as "our only attacking player". I did see him running into trouble with the ball but in fairness he did give their left back something to think about. Coupled with the introduction of Oates (for Hannah) whose physical presence gave a tiring Dartford defence problems the stage was set for a gung-ho last ten minutes. It's all about opinions but how anyone can say that the penalty was somehow "lucky" is beyond belief. It came about because LJL did what he should have done all game-make a thrusting run into the box. His upper body strength forced the defender to foul him as he looked to pull the trigger. (Incidentally the BBC reckoned that the sending off was for deliberate hand-ball . I confess to not being able to watch the penalty so missed the alleged "sshhhh" gesture. I say alleged because Big Chris who was stood in front of me says elsewhere that he didn't see it. Elsewhere there is criticism of Lenny for not running back to the centre with the ball and somehow allowing the game to peter out. For me that is yet another ludicrous criticism of a player who (a.) has just got his team back into a game they looked like losing and (b.) isn't the captain. I'd have expected the whole team to have gone at it-especially as Dartford were down to 10 men but the midfield in particular looked as though they were settling for a point. In actual fact the two best attacks in time added on were Dartford's. Although Dartford's home record against the more fancied teams they've played thus far is reasonable it was for me a game we should have won. Just a word about the fans. After their goal a chant of "Hurst Out" could be heard from I suspect half a dozen or so behind the goal. It lasted ten seconds before those around them shut them up which suggests that the travelling faithful haven't yet given up on the manager. In the bizarre world that is football one can only wonder how long this will continue for.

Thanks for that Barra. Overriding impression is that once again we failed to win a game we should have?

I just think our midfield and strikers were very poor today,
If we did nor get the pen I could not see us scoring,
The only time I saw any encouragement from the bench is when Dog got up and shouted at them,
Before that Hurst and I do not know why Moore stood closed mouthed at the touch line.
Blimey, has it got that bad that we've got MDT on the bench now.

I was stood behind the goal and probably had a better view than anyone on the sides and could see that the Dartford player made a fair challenge on Shop. It was a ludicrous stroke of luck letting Hurst off the hook. Fair play for Shop being a trier but I think we should expect more than triers at our club. The Hurst out cries did come from a small number of people in front of me but I only heard one or two people try to shout them down. It wasn't a case of mass support for Hurst. More of a call to "get behind the lads". I don't know what Shop meant by his "shushing" gesture - upright finger to lips - but I think we can remove the "alleged". He definitely did it. Did anyone here what the other half dozen lads were saying to Fenty when they ran up behind the directors' box?

I didn't mean we we got a lucky penalty, I meant we were lucky to get a penalty as I couldn't see us scoring otherwise. Also I feel the need to defend my criticism of LJL, I have never criticised him heavily, have liked him as he generally works hard for the team. Yesterday just really urined me off, Connell and Hearn would gee up the crowd when they scored, neither were captains. They took the opportunity to inspire fans and showed that desire. Yesterday with a perfect opportunity to lead a charge, he was too busy proving a point to critics to drive us forward for a win. Does that excuse the rest of the team for not doing more? no of course not, but it was very dissapointing to see.

I was stood behind the goal and LJL went down directly in front of me. Was a nailed on penalty in my view. little protest from dartford and even their manager says it was a definitely penalty. There were quite a few people around me who were shouting down the Hurst outs chants which came from those slightly to the left of the goal (looking from the back of the stand). I think the pressure is mounting hugely and the performance and attendance on Tuesday will say a lot

Is that the reason why you've resigned as Mariners Trust Chairman Chris, you've been lined up as next Town manager.

I also was stood directly in line with the penalty call and the ref was spot on, obviously the defender had not done his home work on The Shop otherwise he would have let him shoot instead of hauling him down . As for the half dozen lads? 3 does not make half a dozen. UTMM

Shop was brought down directly in front of where we were standing: nailed on. Credit to him for then scoring the penalty. There were plenty of "belt ups" from where we were stood aimed towards the handful of wanna-be geordie -type fans, whose notion of "support" is not to encourage their struggling players, but to slag the manager. Shop did make some odd gesture. Looked like the "call me" phone hand signal!! But who flippin' cares? Nice chips in their cafe, btw.

I'm not gonna try to answer the rest of the questions because I agree with the points you're making, but I think there was more to the Clayton McDonald situation than meets the eye - does it not seem strange that he was playing so well and then was suddenly dropped and subsequently replaced by Boyce? I'm not saying anything definitely happened but it certainly would appear something happened IMO, and Toto did appear to be one of the better centre backs in the division last season so I've no idea what's happened to him.

I thought it looked a soft penalty. Lennie shot and then was fouled. Those hardly ever get given.
Fair play to him for having the balls to take the penalty and it was an excellent strike. Looked like an striker bang in form and high on confidence with his finishing. If only he was always like that eh?! I couldn't give a monkeys about him shushing the town fans. I hate precious supporters who whine about players giving a bit back to fans.
Overall we were excrement. Hannah ran around a lot and achieved next to nothing other than being offside and his excellent volleyed lob in the first half. Lennie won a few headers and gave their defenders something to think about but those two together do not look like scoring very often. Our wingers were anonymous and only the long overdue introduction of neilson made us look anything like scoring.
Ps nice ground, nice bar and excellent pitch.

I did not see the foul from the posh seats, I just thought Lewis had a good chance and put it wide as usual, It was a nice surprise when I saw the ref pointing to the spot, AND An even bigger one when he got his red card out, We did not deserve to win though so a draw was a fair result, Dartford was there for the beating but we never put them under any pressure until 10 mins from time.

Kept off here for a day to try and calm down. Hasn't really worked, still fuming. On the whole I don't think we're a bad team, I really don't. Do we have the players too get promoted? Maybe. Do we have the manager to get promoted,,, it hurts me to say this but no. I'm sorry Mr. Hurst, but I feel that its time we part ways. Our season isn't too late to save, give it 5/6 more weeks and it could well be. I hope I wake up to find he's gone.
