The guy you are talking about Pete is a Stanley Wotherington. After AS had gone into liquidation in1966 it was started up again in 1968 by this Stanley Wotherington. The Stanley name of the club goes much further back.
  In 1888 the town had two clubs,Accrington and Stanley Villa, Accrington playing in the football league for five years before disbanding.It was at this time Stanley Villa took on the Town name and became Accrington Stanley and they dropped the Villa part.

You are right Grimal, I must have had too much wine when I read about that,

Just read,       1891 Stanley Villa formed,

This  club renames itself Accrington Stanley 1893,
