What Grimsby did right was press Gateshead from the start they had the players to do it.

Neilson was outstanding early on and Pitman and LJL. The og was caused by the continuous pressing and Neilson's goal was a belter.

At 2 - 0 up the confidence was clear to see and the team today was very balanced.

Special word for Craig Clay - who seemed to play just in front to the back four  - he did not look out of place and his role seemed to be breaking down the opposition midfield thrusts - a lot fitter than when I last saw him.

LJL capped his performance with goals. If he can do this with some regularity this season - the season will be a good one

I slated him when he signed but he will play a vital role this year in that holding midfield Brown. With Clay and Brown in the team we are very solid in the centre and offer a lot of protection for the back 4. It also gives a licence for our wingers and full backs to get forward more. Does anyone know when Ross and Arnold are back?

Yeah, Dave Moore.

He doesn't think they'll be fit for Alfreton. Possibility for Aldershot.

Good to hear about the pressing. The best non league performance ,away at Cambridge 2 years ago, was noticeable for precisely that reason. Wonder why we can't do this more often

Team chosen for deep defence and odd breakaways. We live in hope.

Just watched the gatehead highlights.  Cracking first goal from Neilson.
Very open game though, I don't think I've seen so many good chances go begging.  Reckon it could have ended 10-10 if both teams had converted them.
