The Icenian Prediction League.FINAL WEEK

On the day The Fishy was closed down I was about to gauge interest in a new Icenian Prediction League. Obviously it would have to run on a smaller scale to the usual 32 entrants but if I could get a minimum of say 16 people interested, I would be willing to run something similar again.

I have quite enjoyed doing the last 4 or 5 Leagues and I'm sure most of the entrants have enjoyed participation. If you are interested just reply to this thread.

I list 6 games for each Saturday (usually 1 Prem, 1 Championship, 1 League One, 1 League Two and 2 BSP). You need to predict the correct scoreline for each game.

If you get the scoreline spot on you get 3 points, if you predict the correct result (either home, away or draw) BUT get the scoreline wrong you get 1 point. You also have 1 game which you can Nap (IE the forecast you are most confident about) and any points gained on that game are doubled.

If you get the total of goals in the 6 games correct you get 2 bonus points or if you are 1 out either way you get 1 bonus point.

In previous seasons I have run it as 4 Groups of 8 with the Top 2 in each Group at the end (12 weeks) going into the quarter-finals which are then played with exactly the same scoring system, but on a one off knock out basis through to the final.

This format may change though depending on how many people are interested.

I have thought about doing something similar to that in the past but decided against it because if someone is lagging a long way behind in the league they would probably lose interest and not predict.

We'll see how much interest I get and then have a think about the format. If I did it on a straight league basis I could also run an "FA Cup style" knockout competition throughout the season too.

I'll wait until we see what kind of interest we get first and then make a decision what format to go with nearer the start of the season. If we only get 10 or less people interested it's not really going to be worth the bother of running it.

Obviously this would be used quite heavily during the first few weeks of the season to ascertain league positions.

Les, I am happy enough to be in it again: if you want to complicate it, do so, but please don't make extra work for yourself just for a few of us.

Still only 10 entrants. I could really do with a few more to make it worth my while running this again. I'm away all next week so will give it until I'm back on Sunday 4th August (which just happens to be my birthday) and I'll make a decision whether to run it then or not.

If you want Les I can e-mail everyone who can see this board and ask them. There are about 50 people who can see the board but some may have never seen it.

If you could do Rob that would be a big help. There will most probably be quite a few who were in the past leagues who maybe aren't aware that I'm running another competition.

Ok, we're looking good to go now with 15 entrant and hopefully a few more before the 4th August deadline to enter.

I'm just wondering whether to keep the same format as previous leagues (ie, split into groups with the top 2 in each group, or a number to be determined depending on the number of entrant going into the knockout stages or to move to a league with each entrants playing every other one with points awarded for win, draw or loss.

Any suggestions?

I usually post the fixtures each week on the Saturday evening or Sunday morning for games that are played the following Saturday afternoon.

How about having a default score say nil nil for all none entries

Should be ok. What I will probably do is post the first set of fixtures on the 10th of August which will be for games played on the 17th August. All leagues will have started by then.

Right . we're looking good to go now so here's what I'll do.

I'll leave this open for more entrants until the 4th August. I think we have 23 who have expressed an interest now. It would be nice to make it 32 again like previous seasons (32 will be the maximum number of entrants)

I will then PM everyone who has expressed an interest on the 4th/5th August asking them to confirm by noon Saturday 10th August.

I will then work out how many teams for each group and then post the groups, the first 6 fixtures, and a quick resume of the rules on the 10th/11th August for games to be played on 17th August, which will be Week 1 of the league.

Has "We Will Return" been invited onto the new forum Rob. It would be good to see if he could retain the title he won last time out?

Yeah. That's been done in the past. You can say something like, all games 1-1 or all games 2-1 with 3rd game as my nap or something along those lines.

I'm pretty sure this will be my preferred way of predicting the results, as I'm usually crap! Lol

I can run the league in one of either 2 way, just wondering what the majority would prefer.

I can run it as before ie 4 groups, with the Top 2 in each group qualifying for the knockout stages OR I can run it on a league basis where all players play each other once with points being awarded for a win or a draw in each match.

I don't mind either way but what would you prefer.

Right, let's get this up and running. As the only one to express a preference wanted a league system then that's how we'll do it this time around. A new style Prediction League for the new style Fishy. I have had 24 definite replies.

The way it will work is that every player will play every other player once with 3 points being awarded for beating your opponent and 1 point for a draw. Points scored each week for and against will count as "goal difference" to determine league positions.

I will list the fixtures each week and the games to predict. To save typing out each players name every week, I have allocated a number to each player as below and will just post the 1 v 2 fixtures each week.

A quick resume of the rules. I will list 6 games. You need to predict the correct score of each game. You can also "Nap" one score which you are most confident of. If you get the correct score of the game then you score 3 points, if you predict the correct result (i.e. home, away or draw) but get the scoreline wrong then you score 1 point. Any points scored in your "Nap" game are doubled. You must also add up the total number of goals that you have predicted in the 6 games. If you get this total spot on then you gain 2 bonus points, if you are 1 out either way then you get one bonus point. Each game will then be decided on the total points of each player to determine a win, draw or defeat and points scored for and against in each game will become the "goal difference" to determine league positions.

For the first 20 weeks (or until I think it's needed) you need to post your predictions on this thread BUT you MUST also PM me your predictions too. Although I'm sure nobody would do but this stops the abuse of the edit button which can be used at any time. For the last few weeks I will ask that predictions are PM'd only, to stop tactical predicting against near opponents.

I hope all this makes sense but if there are any queries please let me know.

I will post the first set of fixtures and games to predict later this evening.

Another couple of things. If anyone is going to be away for any of the weeks before I have listed that weeks fixtures then you can PM me before you go to say something like "all games 1-1, 2nd one the nap or all games 2-1 with 3rd game the nap"

Also, if someone fails to predict in any particular week, they will score no points but their opponent in that week must score at least 1 point to get the 3 points for the win.
