Playing like  tonight we'll be lucky to win more than we lose.

Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play.
It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfullness,
disregard of all rules and a sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence;
In other words it is war without the shooting.

Don't think it's over just haven't seen anything to make me think we'll challenge if we're really struggling to overcome teams at home. 4 points dropped already, you cannot afford that if you're looking for promotion in this league. Did you go tonight by the way?

its a bad start, but its not too unexpected, given the new players we have.  ThEy should have played more pre-season games. Partnerships take time. Lets not forget it took Hearn what seemed like a decade to really get going last year.  We will score lots of goals, but unless Hatton and Ford come in at the back, and dare I say we give another keeper a chance, then we might start getting clean sheets.

Its the failure to learn from lessons that worries me, and that is as much down to the management as it is the players.  Probably beat Nuneaton about 9-0 on Saturday, but it still could be a papering over the cracks exercise, and we shouldnt get to carried away if thats the case.

It's by no means over, look at Mansfield? Early Pre season favourites and have lost both games (I think)

We need to re group tomorrow get this game out of the system and focus on winning on Saturday.

IMO Hatton, Soares, Elding all have to start and Hearn if he is fit to do so.

It's second game in, so Theres plenty on time to turn it around. but judging by tonight's performance it will be hard. tonight we were poor, did not deserve a win yet neither did Stockport. Midfield was clueless, lacked creativity and provided nothing for the attackers. Yet when the attackers had the ball nothing good happened.

When Crawley walked the division there first game was a 1-0 defeat to us, and their second was a 2-2 draw with Cambridge. If we're 15 points off the playoffs at the end of February then the season is pretty much over, fortunately there's over 100 points to play for until then.

We're a point better off than we were this time last year. Wrexham and Luton have dropped points. Long way to go. We've still got all the pub sides to play home and away.

It hasn't taken long for the worms to crawl out of the woodwork. It was annoying last season but to have the anti-H&S brigade at it again so soon is pathetic.

Pre-season second favourites big spending Mansfield have conceded EIGHT goals in their opening two matches. Not surprisingly their supporters are not happy.
However, it's only two games so there's plenty of time to turn things around.

Problem is, it could just turn out like last year and the year before that ad infinitum. It's only 2 games and we need to click. Then suddenly it's 5 games and then 10 and we are too far off the pace again. All teams sign new players every season and not all of them struggle to get going every season.

I just can't believe how many times over the last few seasons we capitulate in the last quarter, over and over again. Don't think i can ever remember a team that crumbles so easily as Town do and it's the same every year.

Strikers need service. The service ours received tonight was virtually non-existent. Until that happens we categorically will not score lots of goals.

H&S do not know how to play possession football.  The hoof ball power plays will beat the little teams but when we need a little composure and class, as last year, it will be missing. Unfortunately it seems they have not learnt from last season and we start off with poor form.

Perhaps those double running sessions should have included a little pass and move eh?

The thing is if we dont start making a move soon the season will be over with in the first 10 games.with only the champions going straight up we might as well pack it all in by october if were not within a few few points of the top.
were now 5 points offf the top and we've only played two games ,it dosnt look good and it looks like they have lost the fans faith already

I know, I'm glad I'm away over the weekend so won't be at the Nuneaton game. I won't be attending many games at all this month even though home from work. I don't have the enthusiasm to watch a team aimlessly hoof the ball round the pitch.

It just gets to the point where you just lose interest.

Well it usually starts by saying give them 10 games then we can complain, then people will say give them till christmas ,then in febuary  they say promotion is still possible, then we will be looking forward to next season.

That's how i feel now. Don't get that buzz at the start of a season any more. Wasn't really fussed about going tonight but i thought i'd give them 10 games to see how we go. After tonight i will be ringing round friends and family to try and get a voucher for a cheap ticket. Not paying full whack for that pap anymore.

Never felt this way in over 40 years supporting Town.

the trouble is, in footballing terms  mr fenty does not have that mutch money by todays standards, so we have to put up with nuzzle and scratch for a bit longer ,,, untill  promotion is out the window again ....mid september should be about right,, then we can start again like we have done so for the last 12 years or so...

I just hate premier league, players up there are just like some below that league, all about bloody money greedy b@st@rds, plus that league is well over rated. Best league in the world? Debatable, certainly not for producing English talent. Rooney good? like to how that rich tosh would do in this league or any premier league player for that matter. hate seeing other club's shirts at games where that club isn't even playing Especially when they come out with things like I mentioned in the last Quote.

Its not just the way we capitulated that worries most fans though. It's the total lack of entertaining football. If they played better football (i.e. passing to another team mate) and we had seen some efforts on goal and some excitement, I could accept the defeat. We had hardly any attempts at goal and no fluid attacking football for the whole 90 minutes. Our goal was a set piece. I can hardly recall more than one or two attemtps on goal throughout the game.
They were as bad as us for 70 minutes playing very similar hoof ball; then they took off one of the lumps up front, put on a samller player and started to pass the ball around. Any team with even a small amount of passing ability will more oftern than not beat us. We just don't play good exciting football. I appreciate the main aim is to win the game however we can but after all the crap we have seen for the last god knows how many years it still doesn't get any better.
The two managers' tatics were proved not to work last season and it's only taken 2 games to show me they will not work this season either. Do they have a plan B?

I've lost so much interest in the club it's unbelievable.  I went to Southport on Saturday mainly for the day out and a chance to see what the new players were like and if we'd improved.

Saturday's 'performance' persuaded me to keep my 18 quid in my pocket tonight and I'm glad I did.

Same old same old.

As someone has pointed out, the only thing that changes are the names on the players shirts.

A win on Saturday is an absolute must.

What a nonsense post.

There are glory hunting fans everywhere but it would appear that these two were at least prepared to taste the flavour of football on offer at BP so fair play to them.

Our p1ss poor start to the season has probably meant that these two won't be coming back anytime soon and that is lost revenue and support for GTFC.

There is a kind of inverted snobbery about GTFC where we are sh1t but proud to support them through thick and thinb blah blah.

The numbers attending BP and following us away is likely to drop further unless soemthing happens on the pitch.

I have heard some right muppetry on here the last 24 hours. . . . .soemone was crying yesterday about John Tondeur's commentary not being very positive.  You are now moaning that the experience of potential fans has been awful and blaming it on the potential fans.

STOP BLAMING IRRELEVANT PEOPLE AND ADMIT THAT GTFC ARE SH1T, THEY DON'T DESERVE THE SUPPORT THEY GET, THEY ARE CONTINUING ON A DOWNWAD SPIRAL, THERE ARE SERIOUS DOUBTS ABOUT SIMON AND GARFUNKELS ABILITY AND WE ARE LIKELY TO STRUGGLKE THIS YEAR TO BE AHEAD OF LINCOLN LET ALONE BEAT OUR P1SS POOR 11TH PLACE LAST YEAR!!!

Am sorry mate but i think you need a reality check, 2 games have gone not half of the season. Were all frustrated but i think we have a strong squad as did the majority of thefishy a week ago. Keep the faith mate.

It's a bad start, but the important thing now is how the managers and players react. I think there will be a few selection changes on Saturday, and we need to see a performance with a bit of heart and desire from the players.

All is not lost.  Still very very dissapointing though.

This will be the 3rd season Crocket and Tubbs have been here !
the 1st season they had about 8 games in which town played shite in all of them.
The second season we started shite then around Christmas started to go on a run were we beat most the shite teams then the opposition toughened up towards the last 3rd of the season and we went back to being shite again.
This season we have started shite again .
there will come a time not long from now were we as fans will start demanding results ,these guys have had time and they still appear to be performing shite

2 games isn't enough time for half a new squad, where was Cook, G.Pearson, Niven, Thomas, Pond, etc last season? no need for answer as I know they wasn't here, there's more than 2 games in a season. you'll be like the rest of us singing praises once on a winning streak.

Id love to be singing their praises ,Id like nothing else than them to go on a fantastic winning streak for the rest of the season but to be honest i cant see it.
every team starts with half a dozen new players these days but we seem too be the only one that starts shite every year.
they will get time they always do but if we are not in the top 5 in the next ten games then i believe we will not be going up as champions then it'll probably take untill febuary before we realise we wont be going up in the play offs too.
could be another season wasted

A reality check, am sorry but were going to have to accept we wont win every game in this league regardless of whether we are a big dog in the league. Strong squad, we more than matched stronger division opposition even if it was in friendlies, plus the players we kept from last season are more than good enough and then the players we brought in should add real quality to the existing squad

There is a good old saying, you are only as good as your last game.

Opinion and support changes with results and I'll think you find that Town fans tell it as it is on whole.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

I think this makes a very good point. When I'm replying to a thread "Just Back" I'm only thinking about what I felt about the performance I've just witnessed. Based on last night (and Saturday) I do not think we have what it takes to get out of this league. In fact I had an overwhelming feeling of deja vu when thinking about what I witnessed  in the first couple of games last season.
Grimps also makes a great point. We clearly aren't the only team with a clutch of new players. If it is so difficult to gel then just perhaps we might persist with players from the previous season who actually did better in many cases than those that replaced them. Better the devil you know...??

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

We are all dissapointed, but it is very early days yet.

One reason we are dissapointed is that our expectations were so high, based on the players we brought in. Well the new players are still the same players they were a week ago so there is every chance that, once they are in an extablished formation and pattern of play, they can be successful.

As has been pointed out, Crawley had a poor start the year they walked the BSP as Champions.

It's how we finish the season rather than how we start it that will really count, providing we don't give ourselves too high a mountain to climb.

Everything will seem much better when we have a thumping win on Saturday!

It would be stupid to write us off so soon but I think based on the two games you would be even more stupid to back us to do anything this season...

What is worrying is the same mistakes and frailties are happening this season as what was happening last, so when does this issue become a tactical one rather than individual mistakes?

I know 4-3-3 hasn't looked great for us but I don't think 4-4-2 is flexible enough... Players struggle to pick up space and we get closed down too quick...

What does it matter how other teams have started? Point being everyone blamed our slow start last season for us not getting in the play-offs. We aren't Usain Bolt, we can't start slowly and still win. We've dropped points in the last ten minutes of both opening games, another lesson not learnt from last season. Faith! Hope! Mike Lyons knocked them out of me years ago. As for enjoying your season, have you ever?

Ford was rubbish last time he was here, I knew of Greg Pearson because of his goal against us in our last league match and I'd heard of Aswad Thomas because he had a good game against us and got shouted at. Never heard of the rest so I can only tell how much quality they bring by watching them and at the minute I'd say they bring very little. When will people get it into their heads that friendlies mean nothing.

it wasn't the bad start that cost us play-off finish lol. good god never heard such dribble wasn't on here much last season so didn't see. but come on. what was we 3 to 6 points of play-offs? 2-3 more wins was needed, those 3 wins at any part of the 16 we lost would of done no certain part of the season, wheather 1 from begining, another from the middle of season and from the end dosen't matter or even if we turned some of the 15 that we drew last season into wins would of done the trick can't actually say or it's because of the bad start, what happens if we started of great finished shite then lol it's because of then end now that would make more sense not being able to keep up the good form ran out of steam like.

With about 95% of games to go, it is a marathon.   Like a marathon the very early leaders are not usually there at the finish.

Well if you havent heard of signings, the first thing i do is check stats then read other their ex clubs fourms. The vast majority of signings have good records at previous clubs or will be missed by other clubs. If you look at each signing individually they should be capable of doing very well in this league.
-Andy Cook - Good goalscoring record at this level
-Greg Pearson - Scored goals in the league, alot of burton fans wouldnt of minded him staying
-Tony Ford - Chesterfield fans said he was a very good defender but couldnt keep fit but still would of kept him on a play to play contract.
-Aswad Thomas - A player that did very well at Braintree last season, chased by a number of teams. We offered him the best deal so he signed for us.
-Joe Colbeck - Hereford fans didnt like him at the end, could the comments be bitter? because in his first season at Hereford their fans loved him. He got an injury lay-off and struggled to break back into the team.
-Derek Niven - Loved by Chesterfield fans, a player that they wanted to keep but for whatever reason left. The vast majority of users on here knew of him prior to signing and all agreed it was a very good signing.
-Sam Hatton - Struggled in League 2, but was very solid for Wimbledon in their promotion season. He may of even been in the Team of the Year?
-Greg Flemming - Cant see him featuring.

Yes a few players at then end of last season but still the main skeleton of that squad remains. With that added quality it should equal a stronger team.
You cant win every game at the end of the day

Tony Ford you say? When we did sign Tony Ford?! I know he's a legend, but he must be about 56 - we can't expect him to run very fast past the left back and then smash the ball into the legs of the first defender like Joe Colbeck does!

I have to say I agree with BaWB on this one.

it wasn't the bad start that cost us play-off finish lol. good god never heard such dribble wasn't on here much last season so didn't see. but come on. what was we 3 to 6 points of play-offs? 2-3 more wins was needed, those 3 wins at any part of the 16 we lost would of done no certain part of the season, wheather 1 from begining, another from the middle of season and from the end dosen't matter or even if we turned some of the 15 that we drew last season into wins would of done the trick can't actually say or it's because of the bad start, what happens if we started of great finished shite then lol it's because of then end now that would make more sense not being able to keep up the good form ran out of steam like.

Sort of.

The poor start did cost us, to some extent.

12 points I think allowing for inferior goal difference. (Can be corrected on this).  That is a lot of points.

I take this back. just looked through last season's results again and must admit it myself as when you look towards the end of last season and seeing the teams we did loose to made me think again. Kidderminster, York, Fleetwood, doesn't look that bad at the end.

Problem is, it could just turn out like last year and the year before that ad infinitum. It's only 2 games and we need to click. Then suddenly it's 5 games and then 10 and we are too far off the pace again. All teams sign new players every season and not all of them struggle to get going every season.

Perhaps one reason could be we've spent a lot of pre-season defending (very well !) and playing on the counter.
So when it comes to attacking or breaking teams doown we haven't really had a lot of practice in this area ?
It's all well and good Hurst saying he wanted them to push on and score the 2nd (and I'm sure he did), but surely it's gonna be difficult to adapt and switch from defensive mode into attack ? (Note: our goal came from a set piece not open play !)

There was talk of "patience" before the game.
Now obviously fans shouldn't get impatient if we don't score.
But don't understand what the team are waiting for and why we're not on the front foot from the off.
1st half was bit like a game of chess going through the motions and we pushed on much more in the 2nd.
But isn't all you're doing giving yourself less time to make the breakthrough ?....

Strange as it sounds think part of the downfall last night could have been our goal came quite late.
I imagine it's tempting for players to think "Only mins 15 to go !" and try to see the game out. (can't do that if you score in the first 10 !)
Most of the time seeing out the game works and everyone's happy but last night showed the long term issue/problem for what it really is.

Anyway wouldn't at all be suprised if we see more attacking changes, a much improved display and a very healthy victory on Saturday, but we still need to break these teams down and push home the advantage so it's not a gimme.
Players just need to be less conservative, fearful and BELIEVE in their own ability. (and pre-season shows there's enough reasons that they should !)

Don't think it's over just haven't seen anything to make me think we'll challenge if we're really struggling to overcome teams at home. 4 points dropped already, you cannot afford that if you're looking for promotion in this league. Did you go tonight by the way?

1 point for a draw and 2.5 for a win?

Season over? No. Disappointing start? Yes.

Kick negativity out. ++++++++++++

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

I want to know if Grimps stuck £500 on us going up as Champions! What were the odds at the start of the season?
