Soccerbase has him standing at 5'9. Perhaps we should try Davey Boylen in goal instead? Must be lies, pro goalies are not 5'9.

Okay, I'll answer my own query. He's 6'2 according to Wiki.

Reece was a superb keeper, he was 5'10. We got him from Kettering and moved him on to Oxford.

Scunthorpe, surely? 2-2 draw wasn't it? He went out with the DJ Lisa Loud for a while and used to turn out for my mate's music industry team in Ladbroke Grove as a ringer.

Defo Scunny, think it was close to the last minute of the game.  We'd been 2 down and came back to make it 2-2, only to give away a penno at the death that Reece saved.

Interesting Greg Fleming fact: he played for Gretna at the same time as Town legend Mickael Buscher.

About 95 I reckon . He sliced a back pass into his own goal in front of the town fans. He was a good keeper despite being a short bottom !

Sounds like we did well overall. Result is probably academic, but it's got to give us confidence going into the start of the season to compete with a championship team. Sounds like there were quite a few individual 'positives' too.

Hurst post match interview:

Very good game, close match, good crowd, delighted with a clean sheet.

Fleming been training at another club, just came in tonight for us, did well seen as he hasn't been with us, did very well. Pleased and will have a chat after the game.

GK is a priority for us, Mckeown needs competition to push him on.

Also need a centerback and maybe a wide player.

Fleming ticks most of the boxes we are looking for in a keeper. Potentially an obvious stumbling box is finances, limited funds left to bring in players and center back is more of a priority in terms of budgets.

Mckeown is fine, but more benificial to give Fleming 90 mins.

Still exploring centerbacks, talking to free agents but ones we are talking too are looking for teams higher up the pyramid, if they don't come off hopefully they may be available for us.

Hearn got a tight calf should be training again on Monday.

Cook and Pearson did well for us tonight, both did well against good opposition. Keeping a clean sheet against Championship opposition was a big plus, and we don't see many teams we won't score past next season so keeping clean sheets is a good thing.

Don't know on formations yet, no decision on it, despite what people say. 4-4-2 tonight to see Cook and Pearson together in a front two.

Southwell, too early to think about loaning him out, want 4 strikers fit for every game, so far last two games one striker has been unfit, so Southwell is a vital part and is doing well.

Want to win against Scunny, its a cup game, am sure Scunny want to win too. Need winning habit in pre-season, will be another good test.

Summer has so far gone according to plan apart from not getting a CB yet. Still a few things to work on, but still a while to go before start of season.

No interest in Liam Hearn, or if there is we (the managers) don't know about it, and believes if it was going to happen he would have gone by now. Expect him to be here at start of season unless a silly offer comes in which is unlikely. 2 years left on his contract. Hopefully he has a good start to season and then there probably will be interest in Jan, but that will be a good thing as it means he is doing well.

Why is there no mention of this game on the beeb, just Donny result then next up Scunny? And why the fck have they recorded the Donny game as 2-4? Idiots. So we've lost narrowly to an L1 side and drawn with a Champs side, but now it just looks like we were hammered by Donny & that's it.

Optimism for me is growing with each game.

Miller and Pearson were solid, and seem to have a really good understanding between them now.

Wood and Thomas had good games. I can't see any right wingers getting the better of Aswad Thomas. What i like about him too is that because he's quick and knows he won't get done for pace, he pushes up to close the ball down straight away on the wingers first touch, rather than keeping his distance and backing off.

Niven, i can guarantee, is going to be this season's boo boy unfortuantely. I also think it will be unfair. Yes, he hit a few stray passes in the first 15 minutes. But after that he gave it simple and throughout the whole half he kept wanting the ball and wasn't afraid to ask for it straight after making a mistake. He's got character. He also broke up play well several times which seemed to go unnoticed by the people that were slagging him off every time he misplaced a pass. Anyway, the rest of the half he generally kept it simple and his passing was fine after the shaky start.

Thanoj did ok but would've liked to have seen him get forward a bit more, knowing that Niven was always going to sit deep and cover.

Cook did really well. A great piece of play in the second half to control, turn round a man and ping a left footed ball out in front of Artus was a great bit of play. I'd expect him to start at Southport on August 11th.

Pearson didn't have too much to go on but worked hard and showed some nice turns/touches when dropping wide or deep. I can see him troubling plenty of BSP defences with his combination of strength and pace though.

Southwell impressed me again. The thing that strikes me about him is that for a 1st year professional, he is strong, holds the ball up well, and is intelligent to know when to lay it off and when to turn. All things you don't usually associate too much with young strikers just finishing their YT years. We're used to seeing the likes of Mulready, Andy Taylor, Johnny Rowan, Mansaram etc come up from the youths and get pushed around all over the place by defenders. Dayle appears to be able to handle himself out there which is great.

Soares came on and looked good again. It's pretty much like having a new player now he has regained his confidence. Great at finding space, turning and running at the opposition. I can see him being a big player for us this season.

With regards to Niven the Chesterfield fans did say he can't pass a ball, its his other attibutes that makes him good.

Hopefully people don't boo him just because of his wayward passing. Defensive midfielders are the sort of players you don't miss until they are not playing.

Good summary Tommy, agree completely. Just to add to it I thought Colbeck was excellent to tonight! Ran all game never gave them a minutes peace and battled for every ball. Also showed some very neat touches and good ball control! His pace the scare the shite out of BSP defenders this year! After 10 minutes I was thinking.. Michael who????

Panther was mostly a lousy passer but he kept on winning that ball back - Niven can be a great guy just breaking up the opposition attacks and having players looking for an easy out ball to start attacks up again.

The team needs a firm back bone before hitting the back four this year. Niven can do that job without any glamour attached to the role - good acquisition.

Sorry yeah i forgot to mention Colbeck.

He was really good tonight. Very direct style. Better movement than Coulson too. Watch him closely off the ball, he makes a run to take the marker away then checks back to get the ball to feet, and he runs into areas/angles where he can recieve the ball to feet a lot more than Coulson did (who often just set off and ran forward towards the centre-forward position wanting it played over the top).

I really get the feeling Colbeck will give some left backs in the BSP a torrid time.

Ftao the nobhead with the gay eye brow piercing sat at the front of the lower Findus. Not a single thing you shouted during the game was even close to being funny. That is all.

Good game played very well! I think we'll do good this season.

Glad we stuck to 442 tbf, we look very good in that formation. Every player knows their role although if we 433 more then that will come but would rather see 442 against southport.

Cook and hearn to start the season, very excited to see them two build a partnership! Same with pearson.

From a Hull site:

"With Amos, Hobbs, Rosenior, Dawson, McKenna, Olofinjana, Fryatt and new signing Abdoulaye Faye unavailable, the Tigers fielded about the best senior side they could manage:

Jakupovic; McShane, Dudgeon,   Chester, Cooper; Stewart, Devitt, Cairney, Koren ©; McLean, Simpson

With substitutions taking place throughout the second half (all subs used except Oxley) City finished the game :

Jakupovic; East, Townsend, Chester, Cooper; Bradley (for 30 seconds), McLean, Cairney, Koren; Cullen, Proschwitz"

Interestingly enough, from my perspective Niven and Thanoj took turns getting forward today, whereas at the Donny game it was more a case of a diamond formation with Thanoj in behind the fron two. Don't know if that was purposeful or not, but it definitely makes more sense for the diamond to happen.

They're calling Proschwitz Her Flick-on which I thought was quite funny.

Good performance tonight, massive improvement from Tuesday probably helped by starting 442 and quite honestly what looked a pretty poor quality mudrat team.
Donny were far and away a better footballing side on Tuesday, Pearson dominated Mclean and Miller likewise with his man, Cameron Stewart who we hear Hull fans talking up on Radio Hullberside most weeks was f\/cking woeful and Robbie Koran(?)...the amount of times i have heard Burnsy virtually lob his c0ck out and start beating while saying ...oh ....Robbie Koran this and that while doing his commentary, i was expecting something spectacular but fairly average i thought.
Pearson and Niven probably rightfully subbed at half time as the worst perfomers in first half, but the second round of substituions killed us off as an attacking threat, once Elding, Soares and Southwell were on the ball rarely sticked and we lost any momentum and ball retention dropped IMO.
However pretty happy with the defensive shape throughout the evening and Fleming looked assured in goal, caught crosses outside his six yard box, came and called for balls despite his team mates ignoring him and kicking away.
Also watching the u13 / u14 match in front of the Osmand Stand there was some quite neat football being played from front to back on both teams which bodes well. Very tall player in the U14 side was very calm on the ball under pressure and looked comfortable on the ball for a defender.

Well done all. UTM.

Quoted from Tommy
he pushes up to close the ball down straight away on the wingers first touch, rather than keeping his distance and backing off.

Wasn't the case at Gainsboro though - I bet they've worked on this.

Niven, i can guarantee, is going to be this season's boo boy unfortuantely.

Must say Tommy I find that difficult to believe just because of 1 pre-season game.
Don't think he'll ever have another game like that (wasn't bad just these things can often spiral) and confident it will all be quickly forgotten and forniven

Quoted from Tommy
Cook did really well. A great piece of play in the second half to control, turn round a man and ping a left footed ball out in front of Artus was a great bit of play.

Forgot about that - was real top notch and one of the highlights of the night.

Quoted from Tommy
Southwell impressed me again. The thing that strikes me about him is that for a 1st year professional, he is strong, holds the ball up well, and is intelligent to know when to lay it off and when to turn. All things you don't usually associate too much with young strikers just finishing their YT years. We're used to seeing the likes of Mulready, Andy Taylor, Johnny Rowan, Mansaram etc come up from the youths and get pushed around all over the place by defenders. Dayle appears to be able to handle himself out there which is great.

Impressed me too.
Suppose the question is whether he's strong enough for a starting first team place ?
Obviously he's not a target man and skill and goalscoring are his strengths but just wonder if he can cope for a full game against big physical defenders ?
Wouldn't mind seeing him play 90 mins vs Scunny to find out.
In any case, at the very least think he'll be good backup or a great option to come off the bench.
