Now that would be entertaining seeing Graham Holness playing for Town.

Clint Marcelle no one rated, he was a pointless signing. If I remember correctly, Slade had said that either Marcelle, Mansaram or that trialist Abdul would be offered a deal, but he gave Clint and Flash one. He was like 36 when we signed him and had been playing in Non League for years. Pinault was over rated yes!

Also

John Thorrington (was awesome at Huddersfield, came here and did nothing)
Iffy Onuora
Isaiah Rankin
Iain Anderson

I really thought Damien Spencer would do the business for us, but he was probably the biggest dissapointment going. Him and Joe Widdowson (who everyone at Rochdale thinks is good), but i still think was utter excrement for us.

Hockless was a winger, he never played in defence.

If I remember rightly the defence for most of the time when Hockless played was Crowe/McDermott, Crane, Ford/Edwards and Barnard.

Jean-louis Akpa Akpro. Look like he should have been good, Had a similar look to Drogba tall strong looking African footballer with some pace on him. I thought he would be good after seeing him in a reserves game. Everyone else was convinced for a long time him being good was just down to him needing more games.

Several games later he still managed most games with zero shots on target and his pace was used to run into the corner and do sodomist all with the ball. He had his moments i guess like 1 in 20 matches but for the most part he was crap.

Also Rob Atkinson i thought was rubbish even though people thought he was ace.

Danny North. Utter crap but praised for the few good games he had simply because he was a local lad and everything local is the best thing ever to some fans.

Newey.

I used to leave games proper livid after his performances where he'd pass to the opposition about 100 times throughout the whole match and cost us goals. Then I'd get home, read the 'Just Back' threads and find that people thought he played well!

Ha ha. I've just found that our Chima has a Wiki page. According to that he played 36 times for Town and scored 6 goals.

Thankyou.

He was absolutely appalling. Couldn't trap a bag of cement.

Not sure how people are rating him "from a defender's point of view". As a goalkeeper, he'd be a dream to play against - a striker who couldn't hit a cow's bottom with a banjo. He probably cost us more in replacing the balls twatted over the Pontoon than in wages.

Couldn't hit a cows bottom with a banjo always crops up when Akpro gets mentioned and to be fair its true, but if he came to us now can you imagine how many goals hearn would score ?.

Akpro would thrive next to a  goalscorer probably why he was playing league 1 football he would rip this league apart with his attributes maybe not with his goals but would get a good 10 imo.

Him and Joe Widdowson (who everyone at Rochdale thinks is good), but i still think was utter excrement for us.
thats football its about opinion. On another note players can be ousted by the management in one side and not fancied as a player yet thrive at others-Steve Claridge cites this what happened to him on more than one occasion in his autobiography

When i saw macca, he was getting on abit and he was losing his legs, also in the down but not out tape from when we finished bottom,  most goals came from mcdermotts side and he seemed slow at tackling, but he may of been carrying an injury, was he? Anyone remember?

He was an amazing servant to the club and a top player for a long time but Aaron is right in that by the his last season he had lost his pace and was starting to struggle a bit.

As I said, he was an amazing servant to the club and a top player for nearly all of his time with the club.

Jimmy Gilligan-Came to us from Watford after scoring against us in the FA cup in the mid 80's. Was rubbish at Town....

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Am going back a few years here, but thank god he only played a few games for us. Chima cant remember his surname Okorie or something like that. Had heard a bif of fuss about this player being quick etc and could be a good player for town, well he quickly dissapeared and the only goal i remember seeing him score for town was away at a rain soaked portsmouth, must say i thought he was pants lol. Does anyone remember him?

Disco Des was one of the worst but Ashcroft wasnt much use either. I think he was past his best. Nogan was disappointing too.
Vance Warner?? Alan Miller the goalie?

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly
