Grimsby Town 4     Sheffield Utd 0

1979/80 Third Division championship season and Town had to win to be champions. Stood in the Barratt and witnessed a sublime display topped off with a Kevin Drinkell hat-trick............. happy (very happy) days.

Batch, K.Moore, Waters, Wiggington, Crombie, Brolly, Ford, Drinkell, Mitchell, Cumming, Kilmore. D.Moore, Stone, Liddell. ....1979/80..... now that WAS a team.

Jan 1979.

Town 7 Darlington 2. Just the first half really as we were 6-0 up at half-time. We lost the 2nd half 2-1.

The previous Saturday we'd beat Bradford 5-1 at home.

That was one of the first games I went to as a very young child.
All the goalscorers were gone within about a month of that game.
.....................and were not adequately replaced, of course!
