Just reading some of the comments on here and other sites it is hardly surprising that we didnt win the bid is it?

Many many moons ago the English were renown for fair play. Now we are just a country of whingers and whiners who cannot understand how anyone else other than their choice can win a vote or even a football match. We see that on here every time we fail to win. We swear at the players, manager and /or board members and, on occasions one another.

We seem unable to accept/take defeat. This time it is down to bribes and corruption. To me it just reflects why we received so few votes but why can so few of you see it?

Yeah Kris, it's a strange thing this patriotism that means people have a passion for their own country.

Whereas Russia is a country full of racist hooligans where taunts towards black players at matches are rife. Some teams will only sign white players since signing dark skinned players will cause the fans to boycott the club. Don't be flipping daft. Of course it's down to bribes and corruption.

Of course it is. But do people really believe that the English bid was 100% clean?!

Well if we did try to bribe them we weren't very good at it, were we?

It is yet another example of amateurish English failure. We're simply not good enough at the bribery and corruption required to get ahead in organisations such as FIFA. The writing was on the wall when Sir Stanley Rous was ousted as FIFA President by Joao Havelange (who was, of course, extremely good at corruption) in a thoroughly corrupt vote over 35 years ago and we haven't had anybody good enough at corruption ever since!

I mean, just look at the people we have in charge of this type of thing - they couldn't bribe their way out of a paper bag!

For further reading I suggest:

How They Stole the Game by David Yallop

and

Foul!: The Secret World of FIFA: Bribes, Vote Rigging and Ticket Scandals by Andrew Jennings.

Read those and you'll be gobsmacked just how much the crooked scum who run FIFA have gotten away with over the years.

Hopefully today will cause our press to finally start investigating FIFA properly rather than pouring scorn on Andrew Jennings and the BBC for doing just that. It's about time they made a concerted effort to out them as the corrupt illegitimates they clearly are. Maybe that way we might finally see some transparacy and accountability within FIFA (hahahaha yeah right, 2026 is already pencilled in for China in Blatter's diary).

Was it like this when Arthur Drewery was FIFA President?

So why don't we boycott the world cup in Russia and instead organise one of our own as an alternative. Start with all the home nations and those that didn't qualify and call it the alternative world cup for passionate countries that are not corrupt. Until Blatter and his cronies are outed the selection process will never be fair. How can a nation as great as ours wait over 45 years to host such an event. Can anyone (with a bit of time on their hands) post how many times a nation has hosted the world cup and the European cup to see if a pattern emergies ? One vote plus our own vote, how humiliating is that to Becks, Cameron and our future king ? I say Fook em once and for all. Any other thoughts ?

Yes. They just like money more than they like England.

If they gave the WC to England that would be a gap of 8 years without any kickbacks from the contracts and merchandising. England has all the infrastructure in place - nothing much to do to make it ready for the cup. Far better to give the WC to a country which needs everything building from scratch. Think of the cash that can go under the tables from that and you'll see the logic.

Listening to the Qatar details i think it said as part of their bid they will dismantle stadiums and pass the materials over to third world countries once the competition is over......looks like Glentoran and Portadown will be in new stadiums come 2023!!

Their entire economy is based upon bribes and corruption. Their president is the former head of the KGB! I think we should leave FIFA and set up our own organisation,

We could never have an alternative WC - our football is just as much in the pockets of the money grubbers as FIFA is. Just look at who owns the Prem clubs and look at the players in there.

They don't love England, they don't love the English, they don't love football .... they just worship money. The Prem is a ready made cash cow and the ones who feed it are the same fans who are now moaning that England is the "home of football" and that we should have got the Cup.

Can't these supporters see that they have made that impossible by being conned into this Sky controlled scam financed by oil money from America, Russia and the Middle East? They can't have it both ways - they want to see a Prem full of so-called international stars and that means giving away the England game. England is finished in football terms, sad but true, and it was the fans who blindly followed the club chairmen and the FA who have done it.

I think we should who needs FIFA anyway.....i mean what do they put back in football NOTHING.....The World Trophy....hey i like the sound of that. The problem is how will the countires be decided as voting definately seems to creat corruption much like the eurosong contest lol....maybe all football authorities vote for the country that gives the best presentation...obvioulsy they cant vote for themselves......i guess brown envelopes will come out at some stage so there no getting away from it.

I think there's room for another world body and potentially world cup. Rugby split into two games some time ago and more recently the abomination that is the Premier League was created. FIFA refuse to use technology but a new set of rules could be codified around it and other changes (I'd like to see a sin bin for example). It's probably not going to happen but if everyone hates FIFA and they contribute nothing to the game other than dinosaurs taking backhanders and clinging to power like Robert Mugabe, then why stick by them?

I don't mind losing but it all sounds very suspicious to me. Sepp Blatter said we had an " exceptional bid " yet we only got 2 votes. I can only conclude that either the Russian bid was so exceptional as to be unbelievable ( highly unlikely ) or that there is some kind of grudge against us. I'm not one to go into " conspiracy theories " but I think there is more to this than meets the eye. It's not as if Russia is easily accesible to visiting fans. As for Qatar I can see even less visiting fans so what do these choices do for world football.

This might sound pig-headed, but I just don't see why since we have the best domestic leagues in the world, as well as inventing (or at least codifying) the game, we don't have any influence over the world governing body.

The stubbornness of fifa over video technology, and the disasters of these decisions do nothing for its reputation.

But would we break away from FIFA? Not a chance. It looks like from this the rest of the world sees England as big headed, perhaps with an inbuilt sense of entitlement. Break away and we'd be breaking away by ourselves. We don't want to be the child sulking on the edge of the playground while everyone else joins in do we...

Best response, let's make sure we bloody own that trophy come 2018.

I think we've been well and truly put in our place. They weren't going to announce the results from the individual rounds and then suddenly it was 'England went out in the first round with a poxy 2 votes'.

We shouldn't do it unilaterally, but have talks with other top nations in Europe and elsewhere. Then there would be a big annoucement of a breakaway. Like happened with the Premiership, or nearly happened with F1. If it's popular and looks like being succesful other nations would jump on board. Darts, snooker, cricket, boxing and motor racing have also done the same thing.

I'm annoyed we lost out but this all sounds like whiney sour grapes from people who didn't get what they wanted.

Perhaps. I'd like to say I don't mind losing but then I'm reminded of the great one-liner from Porridge - show me a man who laughs at defeat and I'll show you a black chiropodist with a sense of humour.

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

We could start by passing a law that says that foreigners are not allowed to own our foorball clubs. We could systematically kick them out - alphabetically starting with A

Yeah, I'd heard that. My mate's put £100 at 50/1 at Labrokes that it will.

There may be a little bit of sour grapes there but come on, its justified. The extent of our loss is obviously down to politics, as a lot of these worldwide voting contests are.

It's become very apparent over the last several years that for whatever reason, the British are not very well liked around the world. Doesn't it seem funny that the Holland - Belgium vote received 4 votes in the first round and then two of their voters suddenly switched to Russia in the second?

People are gonna blame Panorama for this and I agree that their timing was terrible but there shouldn't be a hate campaign against them for doing the right thing and trying to expose FIFA. I just hope they go all the way with their investigation now and if they manage to dig some dirt on them then losing this bid will probably be worth it in the long run because it will help the game.

Think they tell those knocked out in the 1st round that they did not make it through so someone in the England camp leaked it.

Fair point but am struggling to believe people are surprised that politics comes in to it.

FIFA want to expand the game and choosing. Russia (a MASSIVE untapped market) over us makes sense in that respect.

didn't fifa want the world cup to go to countries who would need to redevelop in order to leave a legacy?  (nearly) all our stadia are already built so we had very little to do and very little would change.  on top of all the infighting (triesman, richards, brady, watmore) it's not surprising that we lost, and lost badly.  just because we're english does not give us a divine right to host the world cup over everyone else

and we tried to bribe the voting committee with handbags!

At least 2 of those countries have held the tournament comparatively recently though.

One question to my mind was if the World Cup is supposed to be shared around countries, a fair enough ideal, then why where South Korea even bothering to lobby for the 2022?

Yes that is the public theory FIFA put out. There is nothing to be gained for FIFA in having the cup in England or even Europe any more when they can use this lie about spreading the game worldwide and make a fortune at the same time. Just think about it - the opportunities for graft and fiddles on the construction of new facilities in a country with a willing government are fantastic. The money involved in a place like Qatar will be colossal. They are starting from scratch and which country will be the one to help them get it done?  Russia of course, officially or otherwise, with some palm greasing of FIFA officials. That's why the 2022 Cup was awarded there - to give them 12 years preparation and money making time.

As for 2018 - just wait and see how much the Russian mafia makes out of the "upgrading" of facilities to FIFA standards and how those standards can be carefully adjusted with a little donation here and there to FIFA committee members.

The whole thing stinks. It has stunk for years and our idiotic mistake was to think that we could win a bid without joining in the charade and bribing our way to the front of the queue.

It was a farce and an utter waste of money, FIFA are a disgrace, I would love to see Spain, Austrailia, Germany and England (to name a few) pull out and set their own World Cup or ssimilar tournament up!

Also how the hell has 2 nations with poor Human rights record, got the chance to host the tournament....simple money and bribes talk!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

I think despite all the shenanigans surrounding our world cup bid and the problems with fifa ,the choice of country was right.Russia have never had it before and its only fair that they got it this time round.A surprising choice for me was Quatar for the 2022 world cup  didn't expect that at all considering how small the country is and how s@@@@ they are at football

O.M.G.........the rest of the world in "stitch up of the english" shock horror headline!......wake up boys and girls it ain't about football,we side with america on many issues ,and this my chums upsets a lot of people.......you only have to look at how they all turn on us in that world renowned festival of "sticking the knife" in the english "THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST",seriously though everyone hates us,until they need soilders, money, equipment etc.

England is finished in football terms, sad but true, and it was the fans who blindly followed the club chairmen and the FA who have done it.

this post is why i come on here, and why i know its right to follow an "unfashionable" team......no matter what our differences are politically, and ideologically,we will always have this feeling of brotherhood,we as town fans, sticking two fingers up to the world of greed and glory-hunting idiots.

Yes, that's right. There was nothing anti-English as such. The media moan was a blind. The decision was made weeks if not months ago on the basis of filthy lucre.

We can't compete with that and we can't moan about it either because our own game has been ruined by the same greed and graft at the top of the game. And the fans have foolishly colluded with it. Every time somebody buys a Torres shirt or Teves underpants from a club shop it is another nail in the coffin for the English national side.
