Now then.
Gary Childs' 30 yarder against Hull in the league cup, must've been 89? And I think he did it again the following week against league opposition.
Gordon Hobson's individual goal against Norwich. We won 1-0. Norwich then signed him. 86/87? Always thought that division two football came a bit too late for him. Awesome player.
Getting stuffed 4-0 at Ipswich in the FA Cup. Probably 92/93? A thoroughly miserable afternoon.
southampton signed him.

Gordon Hobson never played for Norwich. I think you must be thinking about Kev Drinkell who went to Norwich for the criminally low fee of £105,000

Driving down to Colchester with my school mates and one very accommodating parent for a midweek game under Buckley mark 1. Arriving late to the ground and searching for the local radio station to hear the first 15mins of the game 'and it's bad news for you Colchester fans', cue wild celebrations by all the travelling party, 'but tonights game has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch'!!! sodomist!!!
Have many wonderful memories GTFC related but nothing is as clear in my mind as that moment.

Funny how the memory plays tricks. I could have sworn he signed for Norwich. I stand corrected - must be getting mixed up with Kev Drinkell's transfer.

It was Southampton, Lincoln then Exeter after he left here IIRC. He missed a penalty for Exeter against Town late on one season when the score was 0-0.

Hobson was one of the best I have seen in a GTFC shirt. Could turn defences inside out. If my memory serves me correctly, he left us the same day as Gordon Simmonite who was a coach. Wasn't he one of your lot also ?

fentyatemyhamster brought up some awful memeories on another thread mentioning the '252 club' of which i am a fully paid up member, the horror of that night in hartlepool will never be forgotten and my most vivid memory is my hull supporting mates ringing me after the game from a night out and enquiring about the score, it was an embarrassing time to be a town fan when you throw in the other away drubbings we got that season. Were you in the 252?
Was on the supporter bus that night, which backed up over a bollard outside the ground before the game and damaged something, so had to wait a while after the game for a replacement bus to arrive...all we wanted to do was get out of Hartlepool that night!

Yeah, Simmonite was a decent enough defender for a couple of seasons signed from Blackpool, didn't realise he went to you as coach?
