My thanks to Les Brechin and 1 or 2 others who corrected my memory.  At least it shows I did not rely on any reference books.  It was DAVID Cross of course for West Ham.  Well it was late in the day and I was rushing.  I only have a vague recollection of him scoring a 4th goal.  I remember one goal was a header from abour 3 yards out in front of the Pontoon.

I also remember Gordon Durie scoring now.   It was very neat and clinical.  Even Linekeresque!

Somebody mentioned big Gordon Walker in an earlier post.  He scored one crackering shot from outside the box.  The Telegraph forecast that he had more potential than X or Y.  He soon disappeared without trace though. Great shame.

My Dad and his dad were also keen Town fans.  It is quite possible that both of them went to the famous Old Trafford FA Cup Semi Final in the late 30s. My dad is in his late 80s now, but we do not have a good relationship so I can't ask him.

The match, against Wolves,  is still the record attendance at OT (76,962).  It is still the record FA Cup semi defeat (5-0).   However, and it is a big however,  there were no substitutes allowed in those days. I believe that we had George Tweedy, a good England keeper, injured a few days before the match.  During the game the reserve keeper also went off injured.  We were down to 10 men with no goalie.

The game was possibly the biggest Town away following in our history.  Who knows?  Maybe Wolves as a bigger club were given more tickets?

Any very old timers still alive may remember going to the match.  I hate to mention any possible names on here!

Icey senior was there, with my Grandad,my Grandmother and my Great Uncle.    He doesn't do computers so it's second hand through me.
George Moulson was injured about twenty minutes into the game and Jack Hodgson went in goal which left us one short at the back. The result shows we had a hole at the back.

Lay off fella's.

One of Icey's random memories is what the fucck he had for breakfast.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Indeed - I was 8 and couldn't understand why Harry wasn't in goal, at 2-0 I felt the world was imploding and it was all Turner's fault. Of course he turned out to be super keeper and won a FA Cup winners medal in 1976 for Southampton who beat some minor club that has since gone out of business - I think they were replaced in the League by an American outfit.

Ian Turner was also a useful outfield player and played up fron for Town during part of an away game at Bournmouth that was on Match of the Day - he'd injured his hand but Town had already used their sub so Lawrie Mac put up front rather than go to 10 men - can someone remember who went in goal?

League Cup away game v Huddersfield late 70's early 80's(?). It was the second leg of a two legged round. We won 1-0 at B.P. first leg and the Hudders fans thought they'd cracked it with the home leg to come. We went there and won 4-1

The home game was won with a diving Bob Cummings header about 10 minutes after he'd had a hefty boot to the head. Scored with his head covered in bandages - typical Cumming.

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Have a memory of Jack Lewis wanting to come on as sub in that game, but Lawrie just carried on with Ian Turner regardless? Remember the bus drive down there leaving Gy at midnight Friday. Everybody blootered.

Vague memories but, Phil Crosby scoring a great chip/lob in a 5-1 thrashing of Shrewsbury, night time game early 80's late 70's.
Vince Hilaire scoring a cracker for Palace in a 0-1 win, again a nightime match early 80's late 70's.
Town beating Pompey at home in what I think was Mick Lyons first game in charge, not sure if he scored as well. Pompey were the runaway leaders of our division at that time, another evening match too. In front of the Ponny too, everyone going mad!!

speakin of Palace... think it was them.... nite match... Barretts stand... Mike Czuzman scored and jogged towards the Barretts with both arms held aloft..
think we won 2 - 1 that nite... the noise was incredible....  there was around 8,500 in the ground.... it was electric...
for some reason which I cant recall there seemed to be a bit of needle and pre-match hostility due to something Malcolm Allison (?) had sed ????

I know I know... I cant recall much... its my age...   now.... nurse... where's me tablets.....

Wasn't it because in the previous year's game there had been 3 players sent off for fighting? Czuczman was one and Whittle and Cannon ? for Palarse.
Dave will remember.
