Blundell Park in the early 70s...............................................................think about it...!
Batch, K.Moore, Waters, Wiggington, Crombie, Brolly, Ford, Drinkell, Mitchell, Cumming, Kilmore. D.Moore, Stone, Liddell. ....1979/80..... now that WAS a team.
Not counting both Wembley games in 98, my Dad never went to away games (and still doesn't really) so never went to any as a young kid until i could go with some mates from school.
Took me ages to go away , southend away 1993-4 ? Livo scored the winner and I got covered in vandal paint climbing the fence to celebrate. Also remember the kit man taking all the kit off the team bus and it was full of cases of carling black label for the long drive home !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lincoln away 71/72 season. We got thrashed 3-0. It was a night match, crowd 15,015. We didn't lose many that season but went up under McMenemy. I remember walking away from Sincil Bank with my old mate Dave Solway (RIP) and a lincoln fan ran past us and nicked my scarf from my neck. Fantastic atmosphere at the ground. How many Div 4 games can attract 15,015 these days eh.
Can't remember any of their goals, but can remember Oster jinking his way towards goal and chipping in like it was yesterday. I spent most of the match wondering why people would eat their keys then got a piccalilli sarnie on the way home. Good day.
Sheffield United 3 - Grimsby 1 last day of the season around 94-95 time. I remember Bramhall Lane only being half built as they were building a new stand and it was a fantastic sunny day
Funny you say that, Donny away in Oct 79' was one of my first games watching City. Sir Gordon of Hobson scored the winner in a 1-0 morning kick off victory, in front of 9,693 (of which 3k+ were Imps).
1st ever away game (if you're interested?) was Mansfield away Apr 75' we lost 1-3 in front of 14,392 at Field Mill.

Was living down south at the time, so the firs "away" game was the Wimbledon cup game - actually got to meet Bobby Gould in the ticket office when we went to get our tickets.
When I moved back to Town, I think was Bolton away when we went 1-0 up, 3-1 down and then scored twice in the last 10 minutes to draw 3-3.
It's better to be judged by twelve, than it is to be carried by six
West Brom think it was 95 ish. We lost 3-1 think Forrester scored. Was sat in one of the home stands with my parents. I thought they were gonna disown me when I celebrated our goal!
Remember it well you travelled with some dodgy people that day!
I think mine would have been April 1972. 1-1 draw at Bury to clinch promotion. Clive Wiggington scored?[/quote
Remember that well Laurie Mac would not let us have a drink after the game even though we had got promotion. Talk about Capello, the England players today should have met the Big fella OLDFOOTBALLER

I can add further to that game, I was taking a throw in and it was at the open side at Sincil Bank and just as I was going to throw the ball a Police guy was taking a Town supporter who I new very well and he had a knife in his back, could not believe it, he ended up alright, bit of a character at the time and now he is one of the most respected people in the Town. FA Cup away at Coventry, 3rd Feb 1973 - my 7th birthday! Robbed by a Mick Coop penalty in about the 93rd minute, gutted all the way home in my dad's mates Morris Minor.

"Form a string quartet, and pretend your name is Keith"
If someone can tell me which game came first out of these then that was the one late 70s at a guess?
League Cup Replay match drew with WOLVES then went to Derby for the 2nd replay
2-1 away win at Northampton on a Tuesday evening to win promotion, I remember standing behind a rope by the sidelines as the old ground only had a stand at one side and 1 end I think.
1-0 away at Everton, league cup
Scunny (I lived there as a kid and teen) I think we drew 2-2, Wainman was in goal.
Lost 1-0 away at Coventry evening cup match
Halifax away won 1-0
Old age catching up and I just can't remember the defining moment
1 - 1 away at Hull... the infamous trip of the almost sinking ferry... what year was that ? around early sixties... Ron Cockerill was playing I remember that....
All my pictures , Seem to fade to black and white.... (Reg Dwight)

It was you that nearly tipped us over rushing to get off first was it?
chuckle... when the skipper took the ferry back into the humber and refused to dock until folk stayed where they were ? ha ha ha I remember being frightened as the thing almost tipped over

Man City in the league cup, about 1976,Main Road was a rough old place to go, Town lost 2-1,local kids used to take 50p of all the cars to'look after' them. Long journey back across the woodhead pass.

It was 78. We gave a group of kids £1.00 to look after the car. When we got back to it they stolen the cassette player but locked the car up again! My mate decided to report it to the Police and on the way to a Police Station we hit a Reliant Robin at an unmarked junction which disintegrated before our eyes leaving the driver holding the steering wheel like something out of a Roadrunner cartoon. Got home at 5 a.m.
The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.
17.9.66 Brighton v GTFC. Town won 2-0 (Tees scored both but I admit I had to look that bit up!) We lived down there then so doesn't really count.
First away match back in Grimsby was Lincoln 2 Town 1 in the League Cup in 1970. It was a night match. We went in BenBowers grandads Bedford van!! Town scored first and missed a twice taken penalty. The only other thing I remember is Town fans invading the pitch led by a bugler!!

My mate got hit by a Reliant Robin while walking across a junction down Park St.
It was braking as it approached the end of the street and my mate had time to jump in the air and he landed on the bonnet. The thing just collapsed and my mate rolled off unhurt.
My first ever away game was at Notts County - David Ellery was the referee (he was shocking!) he sent off Rhys Wilmott and Graham Rodger, we had to put Tommy Watson in goal - he made them retake a penalty which they still didn't score from then Gary Lund popped up and scored against us anyway!! 0-1 defeat.
I was about 10. Me and my dad, god bless him, got tickets in the home end, due to the fact we knew a lot of Leeds fans, I sat there with a GTFC hat on and the stewards removed us. ended up in the away end!
Hmmm, I was at that game. Police horses and the lot. I remember them throwing the corner flags at us too.
What was it all about? "Revenge" for what happened at BP earlier in the season?
I had moved to Stoke by then, it was funny cos one of the Stokies with a corner flag was a work colleague; I really took the P out of him on the Monday for failing to look hard. I also had to catch a bus home after the game which was a bit worrying but no problem in the end.
dont know what year (long time ago!!) but sheff wed away and we lost 5-0 think it mite have been boxing day and strangely the hardcore were wearing devil masks
Shrewsbury in the cup mates dad took me because i had never seen Town lose dont remember the score. On my own was the Replay against Southampton at Leicester.
I think it may have been Wimbledon in the Cup in 89. Or round about that period. A long wait after my first home game. For 20 years its home games that have been the rarity.
Wimbledon 3 Town 6 in 1980. Got me hooked on away games after that, not suprisingly. I had the flu before the game but it mysteriously vanished as the goals flew in. We sang at their goalkeeper, "Raymond Goddard is our friend, he let's goals in," all through the second half.
It would be nice to have a few games like that next season...
"That Grimsby team was pound for pound, and class for class, the best football team I have seen in England since the war. In the league they were in they played football nobody else could play. Everything was measured, planned and perfected and you could not wish to see more entertaining football." Bill Shankly
1979 Sheff Wednesday away - Lost 2-0. Then went to loads away that season in cups and for the promotion push. Mansfield at the end of the season was fantastic - I seem to remeber us filling three sides of the ground.

That was my first away game too. An epic performance but we were cruly denied by a dodgy refereeing decision. I think Oldfootballer played.
Actually thinking about it, was the 7-1 thrashing at Hillsborough when John Oster got our consolation in 1996?? If so that was my first and not the Leeds one

this was my first away game as well, can remember we had a section of the wednesday end and had to walk through their fans to get to it, was pretty scary... a bloke next to me got hit on the head with a half brick in the first half & was cut pretty bad.. threw it back but always hated the yorkie scum since
