Well, sorry to disappoint you folks, but the wise old master theiceian, was nearly correct.

We're not announcing a match but the bike ride again. Anyone who took part last year should have recieved an email yesterday letting you know that it was returning named - BTTB II.

Obviously at the moment we have only just decided to continue with the legacy of the bike ride, after a hugely successful first event, we felt it just had to return, even if it will be in November.

Anyone wanting to take part can feel free to join, as long as you are over 16.

All money raised will be split three ways again with the fishy folk choosing two charities and LCFC Vital choosing the other.

Obviously as i previously stated this is still in the planning stages so more details will be released when available, but please feel free to ask questions, join up or nominate a charity to go towards the final poll.

Anyone interested can pm me or email contact@biketothebank.co.uk or just reply to the thread.

May I suggest that we adopt Les's charity the Brain Tumour Trust?

It is obviously touched a true Twon fan very closely and again it is a charity close to home that can affect anyone. Perhaps we should split between the brain Tumour Trust and The Stroke Association? My brother in law has suffered from a stroke and is currently staing at my house as he awaits re housing

P.S. As a finely tuned athelete I may consider joining the ride IF I can find a bike!!!

before I decide I need to see if I am still suffering with tendinitis and trigger thumb, the cortisone injection frigging hurt in my thumb joint. Suppose plenty of time to decide.

I think it will get off the ground quicker this year after all the ground work last year. I passed the black file to jon after bttb so hopefully it's down to re contacting people.

Might just buy a new bike for it, I said that last time though.

Totally agree, it should be alot easier this year around.

Nominations for charities closes on Friday so please ensure your nominations are put forward.

If they are being put in this thread then:

nominations:
1) Les Brechin charity (i'm sure it's not called that but see it from time to time and think it would a good move)
2) MS society. (i'm grandad had this and will always have a place in my heart for the work they did to give the quality of life in the later years)

If we are going local then:
St Andrews (again they have helped family members on the GF's side)
Doorstep (GF's grandad did loads of work for these in his time as a youth worker)

The charities can be national or local it is literally up to the people who vote, every nomination will be put on a poll and people will then get to vote.

My choice is for the trust, given that they help fund the club itself and also their funding as we see brought success with the youth team winning the youth cup final.

I have nominated Brain Tumour UK (Les does a lot to raise money for them after his experience) I feel it would be a great charity, saying that there are so many good and worthy causes!

The Trust is a good one but just feel we would get more sponsorshio money and coverage for one that can help to prevent deaths in the future.

i would say Brain Tumour UK and possibly the youth team. I no it's not a charity but it wouldn't hurt to help them out.

This may sound daft but why don't we walk to Sincil Bank? It would save on logistical issues? All you need is some sound hiking boots, a wind up tourch and a fluecent jacket, plus we could set off earlier just a thought, probally not my best thought out. I just see some problems with a Winter Bike ride, ie tempretutre, weather conditions etc, plenty of time but a charity event is a good thing and shows we are prepared to do something worth while

Why don't we just have a "drive to the bank". then lazy b@stards like me can join in

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Your not getting out of it, i have prove you said you would do it....

John wasn't in today, but hes in on Friday ill ask him then for you.

Latest count on riders is:
Grimsby 14 Deffo's 12 Maybe's
Lincoln 8 Deffo's 6 Maybe's.

Yet again Grimsby out doing Lincoln, but obviously this isnt a competition or anything....

I know most of you will think cycling to Sincil Bank is enough. But I have a proposition for anyone who wants to join me - I will be running and cycling to Sincil Bank on November 21st. I will start cycling from Blundell Park at around 6am, then as I get to Grimblethorpe, I will get off the bike and start my run (19 miles) to Sincil Bank. The cycle and the run is of course all for charity, but I'm also going to use it as part of my training for the London Marathon next year.

If anyone is interested in joining me 'PM' me on here or just post on this thread.

Cheers.

Haha I don't blame you. I'm really looking forward to it, hopefully the Mariners will top off the day with a victory.

Lord Tennyson might be back on as the Lincoln stop of point.

It's under new management so will have a word with them. I think it was a good place to stop for a breather.

I've done something really stoopid and gone and got myself a decent road bike to lose the lard. With this in mind, it would be rude of me not to ride it from GY to Lincoln. Count me in. (and deffo Brain Tumour charity for me. A lad I play footy with has a teenage daughter who is undergoing treatment for this at the moment, very brave and very tough on all concerned.)

I clearly loath running, and have done since the arch sadist Mr Parr forced me to do the Toll Bar Road Run. The Match pics (and peformances) have shamed me into doing something about the cake retention. However, running is just ridiculous.

I now have a sore head but will be going out today to "suss out" a bike.

Right me and a mate are going to attempt to do the bike 20 miles run last 19 miles.

Now I haven't done anything like this before apart from a 70 odd mile bike ride last year so I'm a complete novice at the running side. Many on here would agree with me not doing much running having seen me attempt to play football now and again!

We start training for this next month so hopefully we can do it.We will competing in the bike ride anyway.

And seeing Martin Burns' name up there made me wonder if Mr D Burns of Radio Hullberside would be interested in joining the fun (as long as he doesn't want me to ride behind him on a tandem)

Best of luck to all involved. Two very worthy causes.

One question though, having previously done two events with a similar group of people, do you not envisage any problems trying to get the families and friends of those involved to sponsor the 'riders' for the same feat which they achieved only a year or so before to the sums previously raised? Especially, with times as hard as they are at the minute.

It's for two great causes, but I know from first hand as someone who has been involved with a number of charity events, that after the first time peoples generosity soon fades.

Hopefully the bikers will be able to raise a similar amount to last season. With the last event being over a year ago when this one takes place hopefully friends and family will still want to donate as generously as they did last season.

OFFICIAL FUNDRAISER FOR THE BRAIN TUMOUR CHARITY
TOTAL AMOUNT RAISED SINCE AUGUST 2008 £16613.24

LATEST DONATION - FROM DONATION FROM THE FISHY FORUM - AUG 2023 AMOUNT RAISED £170.00

The bike ride is good, but maybe I feel another option could be considered, we need to remember it could be wet cold, icy, foggy and the mornings are darker are they not? Just needs to be considered, maybe branch out more and do several things and make it a full family charity day allowing everyone to get involved and donate in one way or another.

We have months to the game maybe we could generate more ideas and look for something more unique or different to get as much if not more intrest.

I'd like to walk say do a marathon length 25 miles(?) just adding to the debate, it needs to be unique to get people to say wow yes we will donate and get more participating, what do you think?

It may be the case Alfie, but any monies raised is better than non.  This will be the first one I have been involved in so hopefully if enough new people join in we can keep it going.  I don't think that we should be setting targets or comparing with last year (although I guess that is inevitable). I have volunteered for two reasons. 1. to raise money for good causes, 2. An incentive to get of my @rse and start doing some PT.  So with a bit of luck come November, we will all be winners.

I agree.

It's a great cause and still a fantastic feat, but I imagine it will certainly lose some 'wow effect' with potential sponsors considering the exact same ride was done only a year before.

Not a criticism; just my two cents.

Fair point. I biked last year and played football so I've already asked friends, family and colleagues to pay out twice in the last year. I'm gonna be cheeky and ask them again!
Okay, may not raise as much this time. Perhaps people will get drunk off with me the charities are fantastic causes and I always sponsor my chums.

Plus, it'll give me motivation at the gym. Been three times this week developing my calves of steel which will come in handy in November.

There's still plenty of spaces. We are covered for 60 in total.

With regards to other events, put idea's forward, were gonna do the bike ride now we have announced it, but we always have the fixture at blundell park to plan for yet.

Due to the unforeseen circumstances that I might not be in Grimsby when this takes place, we are going to get the Health and safety aspect of this cleared by the two councils in the next few weeks, therefore, we are going to limit the number of riders to 40 (saves time on the politics).

Please note, you do not need a road bike, a normal bike will do. We will not be providing bikes this time so please ensure you have one. All riders must have lights as well (probably wont be needed but H&S demand you have them)

The only thing we shall be providing this time is drinks and nutritional supplements (fruit/energy bars etc) and transport back from SB for yourself and your bike. Tickets for the game must also be pre-brought (will not be pay on the day) a list of names will be sent over to BP who will save an allocation of tickets if there is a huge demand for tickets...

I'm gonna jump out of a plane for Les's charity in early October (as you do). The problem I have is I can't ask for sponsorship for two events a few weeks apart.

Would I be able to ask for one set of sponsorship for the two events? I reckon I'd get more to be shared around? Jon, I'd welcome your thoughts?

Cheers

I don't see why not, at the end of the day the money is going to the same place.

Put on your sponsorship forms your doing both events.

Good luck, I know a mate who's selling a parachute if interested, used once never opened as of yet, 50% of rrp

I'll be up for it again in some capacity. Obviously my fitness has dropped a bit after monging it for a while at Cosford but I'll see what I can do.

Surely there is an explanation Jon. You can't just state it is cancelled and leave it at that!

Various reasons.

One of a few reason Health and Safety fears which I tend to agree with.

I would strongly recommend you carry on going to the gym.

Just because BTTB II has been cancelled doesn't mean a different event wont be set up.

Jon has already come up with a cunning plan after I made a suggestion, I will allow him to explain once the planning stages have been completed.

Jon you should get a job as a Charity events organiser mate!

It is a shame that it has been cancelled.

I can see how the H&S has got in the way with the time of the year.

Av Temps of 6oC, poor light and probability of adverse weather ain't great for biking in, especially on those roads.
