Has been told he isn't being offered a deal with the club.

He hoped that they would have offered him something on Tuesday.

Seemed pretty gutted. Feel for the guy - what more could he have done on trial....

Suppose the consolation is that after that showing today, it probably won't do his CV any harm...

If Dave doesn’t think he’s for us he goes with good wishes but we move on.  I don’t want players here making the numbers up

Looked a bit lost today to be honest. Then again he had very little help around him and it wasn’t as if Vernam did anything of note when he replaced him.

Can’t stay injury free though.

Feel for Ladapo a bit. As said couldnt have really done any more than he has, wasnt great today but noone was and he was gave him nothing to work with.

Felt a year to prove himself would have been fair but Artell see’s them day in day out

Offer Ladapo a year or offer someone you know such can do it at this level such as Charlie Kirk a year? I know which one i'd rather

Perhaps he had already been told? You have to feel for an out of contract footballer risking injury (and continued unemployment) by going on trial and starting 4 friendlies in 2 weeks, to then be told you are not good enough.

I hope he gets fixed up somewhere.

Good point. Wouldn't be surprised. Expect they wouldn't have sent him home if we didn't have something lined up.

After today, I seriously hope we have quite a lot up our sleeves 😅

That means we have someone better ready to go then. Presumably Charlie Kirk

I very much doubt that he had already been told - so no point in playing him today.  More likely scenario surely was he knew that a contract offer was in the balance & he needed to bust a gut to tip the scales today.

Comes in and scores 2 in 4 games, plays mainly well by all accounts and probably ends up as our pre season top scorer but still isn’t offered anything. He was clearly just here to make the numbers up then, shows how far behind we are with recruitment. I’m hoping DA has some quality irons in the fire, but to still be waiting on players at this stage of pre season just shows how far down our shortlist were now looking.

DA will be sacked by October

He scored against Boston & a local semi pro side in pre season friendlies, it’s hardly a good marker to offer a player out of sympathy.

It doesn’t show how far down the shortlist we are either, players will have multiple options and they’re all probably rightly waiting out for the right thing. 3 weeks is a long time in the recruitment process and it feels a bit daft to moan about it now when I bet not one single club is close yet to completing their business.

He played well against Clee Town and second half against a YT right back from Boston, was anonymous against Boro.. we should be looking at better.

But what was he expected to do against them? In other words, what would have earned him a deal? I’m not saying we should have signed him, just that it shows he was here to make up the numbers while we’re short, which tells me that in late July, we’re behind.

I can't remember if he was on the left or not against Grimsby Borough, but their right side for most, if not all, of the game consisted it Bradley Wood and Tom Jamieson. They basically opted for two right backs down that side, one of whom is well above that level after 6 years out banned.

He must have been doing alright in training to keep getting another run out. Ultimately, where Ladapo ends up and how he fares, alongside who we sign instead of him will determine whether we "got it wrong" or not.

It’s a worry, considering our early fixtures, that we seem way off a competitive squad.

It's not just against those, DA see's him everyday in training and clearly believes we can do better.. i'm just saying based on what i've seen in pre season he's not ' stood out ' so to speak. He's done well I agree but we already have 4 lads in the squad that we consider development players in Gardner, Cribb, Clements and I guess you could put Khouri in that bracket so I'd imagine anyone we sign has to be looking at being involved in match day squads and pushing for a starting spot.

Only saw him at Cleethorpes and he was way better than Ira Jackson. Really hope DA has something lined up. Saw Kirk at Crewe away. Spent too much time complaining about the service and rarely tracked back.

We still need more pace and physicality to support Rose and experienced cover/ partner for Thompson who looked dead on his feet at the beach and less than sharp at Cleethorpes. Greeny will have his work cut out ball winning for McEachran and competing for goal kicks so that McJannets can be sweeper.

Thompson has to be central to anchor midfield. If he is drawn out wide who will fill in? McJannet is not quick and Thompson is pedestrian at best. Sarcevic is not quick either but he is experienced, strong and a shithouse.

Any team with a nippy winger found us out last year as gaps appeared when possession was lost. Ladapo seemed excellent at retaining possession and moving us up field. He has been sacrificed due to our need for more physicality and I hope he finds a club soon.

Spent his energy today running back towards his own goal in hot and humid conditions as a sort of second left back - both of whom got done easily with simple passing and energy so could probably find no fuel to show his offensive threat. We didn’t have an offensive threat today. That’s not covered until the week after next.

This made me laugh to be fair. Artell does seem to have a very strange way of conversing sometimes. You'd think some of these lads had never kicked a ball before the way he talks. Like don't be silly of course that aspect of play is not competent I've not personally instructed them in the arts and science of that specific element of the game scoff scoff.

Surely he was just here so we had some striking options whilst the contracted forwards recovered from injuries. Slim chance he would excel and be kept on.

If this was not the scenario then does it not worry anyone, the fact we are pinning our striking options on trialists without clubs?

Win, win all round if he stays fit.

Good luck btw with that approach of having only young and/or inexperienced 'keepers in your squad.  That worked well for us last season.  (thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)(thumbup)
