He wanted to see how ladapo did against higher opposition so I reckon it will be make or break for him this game.
Yeah, Boston are a National League side again now, so it should be a very different challenge to playing against tiny non-league minnows like Grimsby Borough, Clee Town or Scunny.

That’s cheered me up!

Keep raising the opposition level to see how Trialist B copes.
Ladapo is ok thus far, and knows where the net is.
Would be good to find a new Connell or Amond.
Both had poor scoring records pre-Town !
Maybe hard to assess, but 3 clean sheets is a fair start as well !
Early days !
Ah, the old “Amond had a poor scoring record before we signed him” myth trotted out again. He’d scored 11 and 10 respectively, in his two prior seasons in the league above, playing out wide. If we signed someone now with a similar record in League One, in their mid-twenties, I’d be absolutely over the moon.
It’s fair comment where Connell is concerned; he was so unexpectedly class at that level, but I think the consensus was always that Amond looked a great signing from day one. Perhaps not a 30+ goal man, but a decent all the same.

Ladapo is young and probably won't command much in terms of wages. I haven't been at the game tonight to see how he played but that goal looked decent. There is a danger now that if we offer him another run out on Saturday against York that he decides to try his luck elsewhere.

Connell had quite a decent scoring record in League 2 and anyone who'd seen him play knew he was a good player.

It’s funny, because I can remember where I was when we announced we’d signed both Connell and Amond, and I’m pretty confident the knee-jerk reaction was particularly negative (to Connell). He’d scored 5 League Two goals in 2 seasons (despite not having played too many games in one of them), which wasn’t a particularly outstanding recent record.
Worth remembering though that he signed only a few weeks after our relegation shenanigans at Burton - the mood surrounding the club wasn’t good, and understandably so. But he wasn’t well received on the basis of his scoring record.

Ladapo and Fieldson had very good games imo. I would be signing them up…

Feel for Matt Dean, Artell seems hard work at times. He’s done well to get 10 minutes out of him there!

Town came out the stronger in the second half and could have had a couple more, Boston at this point didn't get a look in.
Once both teams made a number of changes Boston came back into it and but for some really good saves could have had a couple.
For a friendly quite an entertaining game although both teams seem to spend quite a bit of time fannying about passing the ball in and around their own areas especially Boston.
Lapado saw plenty of the ball in the first half but not a lot came from it but he was much more dangerous in the second and scored a really well taken goal. He might be worth taking on even for 6 months to see how he does.

I agree, but it was the usual nonsense. He'd actually been very good at Brentford and had played really well against Town previously.

I thought a decent interview, he said all that he can , he is straightforward and came across very well to me utm
I was slightly disappointed he didn't get his favourite phrase in 'recruitment isn't an exact science but an artform' . Apart from that seemed decent enough . Still on the fence in terms of how i think it will go with him , but he's a decent fella .

Agreed , could go either way. A lot of new players and so the start will be hard. As long as we see potential I am patient. I would not be surprised at a rocky start given the fixtures but I think if we hold our nerve it is more likely half way or above utm

I really think we need to cool expectations for this lad, certainly immediately. I'm nervously excited that he'll prove to be a hit but he's going to need time to adjust. He didn't do a lot in the Clee Town game and it appears didn't do much last night either, but this is all part of the bedding in process.
Different style of football, different league, different surroundings, everything is going to be different for this lad. We've seen players from this country take a bit of time to adjust to different surroundings so for this lad to come from a whole different country will require some patience.

I’d say, Green, Thompson, Wilson and Rodgers all stood out last night as being clearly the better players on the pitch. I’ll be perfectly honest that a few others did ok, but I’m buggered if I know their names.

Although the Icelandic League is playing currently, please just remember our new signing is a previous part timer, so full 90 minute League 2 fitness may be a while yet.

I think Wright will prove to be our most important signing of the summer.

Yeah I agree. Was quietly confident based on the feedback a couple of Imps I know gave on him*, then within seconds of him playing in the second half against Clee he just gave off the feel of that type of 'keeper who states his authority and installs confidence in his back-line. Said in our group chat on Saturday night that he's my early bet for POTY.
I'm thinking like when Steve Mildenhall came in and within a few games you could see how higher up the pitch the defence had stepped because he not only pushed them out but they trusted him to do so.
I don't think Eastwood is a bad 'keeper, far from it and when he's on his game he looks very capable at this level. But Wright just looks to have that extra gear to his game.
*speaking to one of them earlier this week, having now sold Jensen it seems Lincoln are a bit of a crossroads between the sticks. They've signed a young lad released by Birmingham and none other than former Town bench warmer Jamie Pardington, but neither appear ready for the No 1 shirt. When they signed the lad from Birmingham the club even said he's a development and they'll be looking to loan him out sharpish.

From the highlights Jason, even though not standing out, looked to be all over the pitch. That could be a very useful commodity
Posted by: sam gy, July 17, 2024, 2:48pm; Reply: 52
Looks like Jason laid it off for at least two or three brilliant chances that should've been buried, especially liked the one Warren missed, with his clever running off the ball and simple pass in a very good area.

After watching the Boston highlights carefully, I have to say I'm cautiously quite optimistic about the coming season. I thought some of the passing and movement looked very nice, with Mceachran in particular looking like a distinctly useful addition. On top of that, Wright looks like a keeper in every sense of the word. Still work to do on the goalscoring front, but the signs seem quite positive to me.

Svanporsson was also involved in every chance on the highlights until he went off. Needs to be a bit greedier sometimes

Only seen the highlights from Boston but on Saturday against Clee, accepting you would expect him to stand out a bit, but McEachran just oozed class when he got on the ball. With him and Ainley hopefully in our midfield options, I'm cautiously excited about our midfield this year and that we'll be more about dictating play and opening sides up rather than just grinding results out.

Wright is a good goalkeeper - He will do well for you I would imagine, An issue for us was his feet and distribution, which sometimes in L1 meant we did not get the ball back, but I think he is a good buy for you, we got some dollar, so everyone should be happy.
Jensen is a loss to us, and will be Millwalls 1st choice keeper so that tells you the level he was at, but we have got a very significant figure for him, so with Sorenson sold too, we have made probably 1.5 million from the pair - It is the model we have. Neither keeper we have bought will be 1st choice, 1 will be loaned, and we have already agreed a deal with a goalkeeper from Fulham - Pretty happy with our business, took players from L2 that were offered deals by their clubs and fans unhappy to see them leave so that bodes well - We just need to replace Taylors goals and should be okay.. Birmingham offering 3.5 million for a player this week though shows what we are up against.

Had missed Jensen’s move to Millwall, which presumably materialised as a result of Matija Sarkic’s tragic and unexpected passing.
We announced Wright’s signing the day before that awful news broke; do you think he might have been retained as your #1 had the club known Jensen might move on, or was he not quite ready for that, in your opinion?

He certainly never let us down when he stepped in for injuries or suspensions, but he does lack the ability to use his feet. As mentioned, in L1 you just don't get the ball back, a long kick, and it just becomes a 50/50. The club would have always known Jensen was likely to leave, it is the model we have now and fans need to chill about it, whilst disappointed if Jensen did not start, I was never bothered that Wright did. Making 1.5 million from 2 sales enables us to reinvest, and help with getting free agents, who have been offered deals by their clubs, but means we can offer that little bit more to entice them. Certainly think that is the case with Bayliss, Hamer, Jefferies and Street who were all offered deals for their clubs, and fans disappointed to see them leave.
It is always a risk though, you just have to hope recruitment is good - The midfielder we have, Erhahon, will smash our transfer fee received if he goes.
