Bit odd Ainley's nowhere to be seen after a great cameo + assist last weekend, and Holohan not in the squad either which is a shame given he's all but confirmed to be leaving the club after this.

Some clues on who is staying and going and in that first 11 Only the two full backs of players not under contract ( or under option ) for  next year selected. . Hardly suggests any of the others are staying or surely you woukd be looking at them.

Cos we're completely safe and it'd be nice to give someone who has contributed so much to the club a proper send off, even if it's only in the form of a couple of minutes off the bench at the expense of Wood or Andrews (who aren't even our players).

Hagrid, always dangerous to judge a young player on a few appearances. The lads got talent but not the physical attributes required, especially at this level, but he might end up having a decent professional career but I agree he certainly wasnā€™t ready for league football this season.

Absolutely - Wood gets knocked off ball to easily... and he plays himself into trouble too much
But he's learning his trade... his equaliser v Notts County shows class he has

Thatā€™s the centre halfā€™s fault all day, when he misses it Hume is wrong side of Orsi (as he should be) and was never going to be able to get between him and the goal in time.
Hume has started well, there seems to be a desire to call him out for everything, where for me heā€™s much better than Amos (good national league player) and Glennon (seems unfit and abject defensively in a back 4 - probs better in a 5)

We need to take our chances
Our cbs arenā€™t good enough to play in a 2
Cam doesnā€™t look ready for the first team yet
Green isnā€™t a attacking midfielder
Played some nice stuff at times
We look effective down the left with Hume & Vernam running at them

How Green is Captain and we are thinking of retaining him is way beyond my comprehension, heā€™s been worse than poor in the first half. Defensively we are demonstrating why weā€™ve played 3 at the back since the Doncaster game and Rogers continues to be very inconsistent and looks lost against Orsi for the second time this season.

As for Mrs Mariner getting on Cam Gardnerā€™s back on his debut you should be ashamed of yourself itā€™s the lads debut for gods sake. Shocking miss but anyone who has played up front knows it goes with the territory. Lads got potential and a perfect game to get a run out.

So this game just following the blueprint of the whole season. Bright start, miss golden chances, concede soft goals, game's lost, go to excrement, half heartedly play the game out.
Easily one of the worst Town squads ever in my lifetime. Hopeless and lucky to be a league club next season.
I'm done. Glad to see the back of most them.
No anger and stress for 3 months, I'm going to enjoy it. I hope you do to. Cya! šŸ˜Ž

I bet Artell will point to how much possession we've had, sadly we don't look like scoring and its obviously Crawley are sitting back looking quite comfortable.

Crawley are allowing us to have possession. Zero movement up front.

Our fans are in good voice, they deserve a better performance than this.

Missed opportunity today for Khouri, dunno why we offered him a contract extension earlier this season if he's just going to put in anonymous performances like that when he gets a start.

I think we should keep all those players.... and start a walking football team.
Posted by: Mariner93er, April 27, 2024, 4:35pm; Reply: 131
If we recruit right. Only 2-3 of the players starting today should be in our 11 for the first game of next season.

Looks like we have a team full of Ray Wilkins'.......unable to pass the ball forward

Thompson's still fighting.  Shame the others don't take his lead. I thought we'd have a go today

I wish weā€™d brought Bramwell and Braithwaite on for their debuts rather than Andrews & Wood

Don't get why we're bringing on loanees who won't be with us next season.

Donā€™t know why weā€™re allegedly offering contracts to anyone out of contract either.

Match stats on the BBC seem to indicate we haven't had a shot of any type during the second half. Is this correct?

I'd be retracting any that were on the table after this performance if I was Artell

Todays performance sums up the season - below par in all aspects.

Cant say that mate ā€œ Greens learnt how to pass a ball and played well for 2 gamesā€

Every one of those out of contract players should be let go

Absolutely flipping clueless in that second half.

Most of this shower of excrement needs binning even those on long contracts. I would also like to know if our recruitment manager had any involvement in the signing of Rogers and giving him a 3 year contract, if he has he can intercourse off as well.

No faith in Artell either.

Today was a more realistic view of the team . Problems all over the pitch , obviously midfield stank but the front 2 were poor too . Vernham can go , he offers nothing at all

Still has 2 yrs on his contract, so he's going nowhere

Heā€™s been dreadful.

Thats not fair. He's spent far too much of the season on the physio bench to even be dreadful

Thereā€™s a complete mismatch between what Mr Artell was promising in yesterdayā€™s GET and the performace on the pitch this afternoon.
Wayne Bridge said that Howard Wilkinsonā€™s team talks sent him to sleep when he played for England U21s. Wonder if itā€™s the same with some of our lads.
Letā€™s hope for better things next year and that weā€™re biting our nails about possible promotion, rather than relegation/

Besides the top three donā€™t think there are many decent teams in L2 as proven by the fact Crawley and Crewe are in the playoffs. Take the two chances and we win a mediocre end of season fixture.

Biggest disappointment was Khouri for me. He finally gets a start but ambled through the game without doing anything of note. Thompson decent again, maybe Mullarkey but nobody else did much and didnā€™t understand why JT and Crofty kept bigging up Vernam as I thought he offered very little.

A season too far for me and I will give up my season ticket after many years and just come over as and when I get the urge.

Praying for a mass clear out of players but it did cross my mind that Orsi left last summer and not one of our starting eleven today were with town when he played, incredible.

The only time we looked like scoring was with 3 balls into the middle.

That's why we need proper strikers

In DA's post match interview he said that Callum Ainley wasn't in the squad because he's just had some more treatment for his cancer and has to isolate.
He also didn't sugar coat anything, saying that we need to improve on players, that's why Gav is going, though he did give Gav a glowing tribute.
It's good that he says things as it is, instead of making excuses.
