Like that, with something on the bench too.

know we’ve not seen to much of him as a footballer yet but what a massive effort by Callum Ainley must have been a tough few months for the kid, hope he gets in👏👏👏

Green concussed from Cartwrights punch…
Clifton must be injured.

Understand why it’s difficult to get Vernam into this formation but made an immediate difference on Friday.

Not been a fan of Clifton this season tbh. Midfield in general not been great but Clifton has been very wasteful.
Been a fan in previous seasons but definitely not his best by far.
Posted by: Maringer, April 1, 2024, 12:57pm; Reply: 8
Clifton isn't capable of playing in central midfield. Does a decent job on either wing due to his work rate and persistence and is reasonable as cover in wide defensive areas. We're not playing with wingers, though, and he's not been at all effective for most of the season.

Up to Smith to impose himself today and show he's worth a place ahead of a stopgap.

JT suggested a hamstring injury - no other player  involved, so does sound like a muscular injury or some sort of pull.

Really do like the way that obikwu is settling into the side. Player  that I’d love to see playing for us again next season

Got to ask, why do our players seem knackered? Or is it just a lack of pace

Posted by: DB, April 1, 2024, 1:55pm; Reply: 44
So far so good, not brilliant by any means but we're holding our own. We do need to finish when the ball goes into their box. Ref's having a stinker with some unusual decisions .

The game is there to be won and Bradford are not particularly good in any department.
Posted by: Maringer, April 1, 2024, 1:56pm; Reply: 45
Funnily, I was just thinking how ineffective Obikwu has been! He's got no idea how to use his body and jumps about a foot shorter than his normal height whenever he's trying to win a header. I don't really understand how these young academy lads aren't taught how to put themselves around a bit.

One or two encouraging occasions for us without actually creating a huge amount but the number of free-kicks they are giving away about 40 to 50 yards from their goal is just ridiculous. The referee will surely have to start booking someone soon.

Just a pity that we're no threat from set pieces. One good delivery in five seems about the best ratio we can manage.
Posted by: MarinerDevil, April 1, 2024, 1:57pm; Reply: 46
Smith has done quite well on his return to the team. Curtis Thompson is the only player in the centre of the park who understands the game. We haven't really been troubled apart from when Hume decided to try and turn on the edge of his box. Bradford are dire but we're simply incapable of putting a dangerous delivery in and I don't see how we're going to score without changing shape and opening the game up.

The better side . No clear cut chance but 4 or 5 opportunities to give the ball a crack from around the edge of the area and only 1 struck with any discernible technique, the blocked shot from Andrews. Bradford done intercourse all, yet us fannying about around the edge of our own box once again, presents them with the best chance of the half, and their striker should've done better. I think Vernam would have these lot worried
Posted by: grassbandits, April 1, 2024, 1:58pm; Reply: 50
Bradford look dreadful seemingly not helped by having so many players out and nothing to play for etc.

Still think this is our best chance to get 3 points of all the remaining games. Can't remember so many balls going into one penalty area with zero chances created - can't get near a second ball for sure.
.
Vernam for Hume looks inevitable sooner rather than later...I hope.
Posted by: dapperz fun pub, April 1, 2024, 1:59pm; Reply: 51
2 poor teams could go either way this , I wish the big lad up front would use his size a bit more and I wish our team generally had more pace throughout
Posted by: Mariner93er, April 1, 2024, 2:00pm; Reply: 52
We don't need both Andrews and Holohan on the pitch. Replace one of them with Vernam or Eisa and go at them. This is clearly winnable and the 3 points would be massive, but we are really lacking any sort of creativity.

Getting anything out of this game is a must. We’re missing that pace
that every other team seems to have and uses well against us.

This feels like a re-run of so many games this season, poor quality opposition who are there for the taking and Town's inability to take advantage.

Our final ball and set piece deliveries are awful, no creativity, aimless long balls into the opposition box, god knows where we are going to get a goal from ?

On a plus note, Thompson has played very well.

Something needs to change because we all know what happens next, Bradford will get ONE chance and its 0-1 !

Much better second half needed.

No. We failed because we are incapable of scoring more than one goal a game, and don't have what it takes to beat a crap side when our survival depends on it.

We are at home with the lead in front of a packed blundell park in a must win game against a team with nothing to play for with minutes to go......and we gift them a penalty and throw away 2 points. I just can't see the likes of Sutton, Colchester and Forest Green doing that if they were in that position. Very very squeaky but time now because I think Sutton will win today and they will all be lifted by our result

Our inability to score more than one goal and a single moment of urine-poor defending has cost us 3 points today, in what was a dominating performance. Bradford deserved jack excrement today but we've once again gifted a team points

Colchester losing at least

...but Sutton winning. And now Colchester have equalised.

It was a clear Pen and red all day. Hume was wrong side of his man and then mounted him before dragging him to the floor so he couldn't score at the back post, Ref was given no choice.

To be honest calling the players bottle jobs is a cheap shot but I’d prefer never to see Hulme in a Town shirt again, no better than Glennon in reality.

It was an absolute stick on penalty. Hume was wrong side of his man and the foul was his only option.

I can't believe that. Well, I can, but I'm still gutted. We were tiring badly in the last 10 minutes there and they were able to just keep reloading it from wide areas. Bit of bad luck with the deflected cross, Hume gets caught wrong side (he had a poor game) and then seems to drag him (although the replay was a bit unconvincing to me, I'd have to see it again). It feels like 2021 all over again, can't eke out the 3 points we desperately need. Sutton and Colchester are going to catch us.

I just can't see us picking up the wins to take us to safety when we can't score more than 1 goal to win a game.

I said it might have been a pen, but we should've had one as well!! Still a excrement ref !!

We dominated them like we did at their place.

Why did Artell only make 1 sub? Absolutely clueless. Hurst did the same at Bradford in 35 degree heat, and it cost us there too.

Those 4 points dropped will be costly.

The stat that says it all about us is

1 shot on goal

They've dropped 34 points from winning positions this season FFS. I know loads of this forum have an aversion to data and statistics but you couldn't find more conclusive evidence they're bottlers if you tried.

Not bottlers, just not good enough footballers.

Exactly. We somehow managed to assemble a dreadful squad of players. Hurst has to take a large share of the blame. Artell has made some better signings but with his tactics, substitution and poor game management has managed to negate any improvement so that the net result is that we are still pretty much useless.

If FGR are good enough to thrash Crewe away from home then we are in serious, serious trouble. On current form it's only a matter of time before they, and Sutton, and Colchester overtake us. Draws don't cut it. We need to win at least two more games to have any chance at all of staying up.

It is not impossible that we could finish bottom at this rate.
