Councillor Hayden Dawkins said: “I am not sure if a park and ride system will ever work in this town – but one occasion it would be useful for is football.“If Town keep on our current trajectory, I would be happy to see it cater to our matches in the Premier League in three or four seasons.”

It's impossible to do in 3 seasons but even wildly optimistic me cannot see Town in the prem in 4 seasons. But then Cllr. Dawkins might know something we don't! :K) :K) :K) :K)

Well, he did say "if Town keep in our current trajectory". If we continue to win 8 games out of every 11, drawing 2 of the others for the next 4 seasons we probably will end up in the prem. I'm not saying that's actually gonna happen like....

Hang on a minute.......the council who want nothing to do with the club are now suggesting that provision of a public facility may be dependant on the football club's continued success.

So Town sit top of the league with Grimsby folk streaming back to the club and suddenly the council are aligning themselves with it.

Humberston is an area of above average wealth. Areas of above average wealth have generally above average levels of educational attainment (it's not fair but it's true).

If Town don't get to the Premier League will this be used as an excuse for not having a Park and Ride?

just for the sake of balance (and i'm far from being a Tory lover) Mr Dawkins would appear to be a Town fan - the vast majoritty of his tweets concern GTFC rather than politics

Hmmm....I know someone else who that could be a description of.....

I hate 'would of'' too, but as an ordinary man living in a small semi detached bungalow in New Waltham, I met Hayden Dawkins outside the poling station, when it was the time to vote for a new councillor after John Fenty. He seems to be a very pleasant, likeable and ordinary man, with absolutely no airs and graces and being fairly local unlike the other candidates, I voted for him.  :)

Hopefully you feel your vote was earned and well placed then. I wouldn’t.

I stood for Labour in Humberston and New Waltham against Mr Dawkins. Had I known the voters of Humberston and New Waltham frequented the Fishy I'd have campaigned on here. The sad fact is that the electorate in general in that ward would vote for anything wearing a blue rosette. The opposition parties know that and expend little resource in trying to beat the Tories there. Mr Dawkins was originally set to fight another slightly less winnable seat and the good residents of that ward didn't see him for dust when JFs ultra safe seat came available.
As it was my entire campaign consisted of trying to persuade BP Vicar formerly of this board NOT to vote Tory..

He might be, but they’re not the same, dyslexia and poor literacy. People with dyslexia can still punctuate, spell, check back etc to varying degrees like anyone else. It’s effectively a ‘spectrum condition’ like autism.

Not sure how Angela Rayner gets dragged into a debate on local politics but I wholeheartedly agree with you about the Labour supporting electorate. It works both ways. It's bad for democracy and the public can be badly served by their choices.

The reason I didn't vote for you was that you didn't live in the area and Mr Dawkins did. My Dad was a labour shop steward and would turn in his grave if he knew I didn't vote for you; but I have never voted politically in local elections and in General elections I vote for who I think is the best. Which having known Martin Vickers as a good man and a big Town supporter, I have voted Conservative for the past 2 General elections.

My cousin votes Conservative always and likes to ram his beliefs down your throat and I find voting for a party because your Dad did stupid.

I would like to wish you all the very best if you try to become a councillor again and I admire your efforts to work to support people by doing so.  :)

I perhaps worded that badly. I knew Martin Vickers when he was a councillor at Scartho, when he was a customer in a shop I once had and I have spoken to him in the Upper at Town games. Everybody has their own opinions but I found him to be a decent humble man. .
