Think I'm one of the few who thinks Cardwell has something. I think given the fact he's out on loan shows maybe IH doesn't agree though haha.

In an interview pre season I think it was Harry Davies said Cardwell was the fastest player at the club. Think played in the right system he could do alright. But saying that I'll always welcome us trying to sign better quality players.

Nice to see the sharp objects giving excrement to Cardwell on Twitter while he's copied in. Best fans in the land.

I think they are mainly quite gracious apart from this sharp object:

I think this is Cardwells chance to prove something, he needs games to find a groove and find some form. If he can't I can see him going at the end of the season. All we need now is to find somewhere for Cook to go.

It worked for vernam going out on loan and can only benefit all parties

Good luck to Ollie battersby too. Much needed game time experience

The thing that concerns me is that they've sent Cardwell out on loan and Holloway's thing of giving ibra a contract...says it all to me...just think Cardwells level is probably conference to be honest.
He's an hardworking lad and tries his best but in the time he's been with us he's always been at least 3rd choice...
Hope he does well and secures a deal with someone else because I really don't think Holloway fancies him..

Last chance saloon for Cardwell i would think.....i really wanted him to show/fulfill his youthful promise but long spells out with injury, changes in managers and never really grasping his limited chances means he has never cemented his place.  Really do think there is a player in there but failing him smashing the goals in during this loan forcing IH to put him in, i will resign myself to admitting i am not going to see it for us.

Either way he needs to be getting games and to go prove himself somewhere and this will be good for him. If he stays with us or not is for him to discuss with the manager but if he doesn't then getting games and showing what he can do in senior games will help him if he does move on. There have been players who came to us when it didn't work out for them with a previous team and did well,he might move on elsewhere and be a top player for them and we're wondering where that player was when he was here.

I feel for him to a certain degree, he's obviously been told by ex managers (not just here but elsewhere too) that he'll make it but unfortunately he never has.
He needs to be somewhere where he can have an impact and score goals, be a success, somewhat like JJ hooper was at Bromley.
If it was going to work out with us it would have happened before now.

Soo many players drop out of the game every year so think it's vitally important to Cardwell he has a good loan period so can get himself fixed up for next season somewhere.

Cardwell did try,  and did run his bottom off
Was at both Games he scored
Northampton away and the pre season at Stamford last year I think ?
And at the Swindon game when he won the pen 😂
Like him, but unfortunately it’s a results business and he hasn’t delivered
Know Nothing about Battersby
Excited about tomorrow
Come on Town!!

Puts the effort in. When he was playing late in the season jolley turned us around to stay up he really worked hard defending from the front. But he didn't kick on as we hoped he would.

Good experience for battersby

A good break will help Harry Cardwell. I wish him all the best, I don't think he's good enough for Grimsby. I can't sugar coat it, but I really really hope he proves me wrong and goes on to do brilliantly well for us, move on, big transfer fee, big wages, his own castle and wins in life. I saw Jack Lester come through the youth team, though he was shite. What do I know? Cardwell is already 100 x the player I ever was and I would be delighted if he did the business. He's 23, now or never mate.

I like Cardwell. He's big, he's strong and he's quick. I really hope he does well on his loan spell and comes back firing. He has all the ingredients and i hope IH can coach him into showing it on the pitch. Thought he was great in our escape from the drop when MJ first came in.

Go on Harry, now or never.

Cardwell was the best player on the pitch for me at the reserves game the other day but still didn't manage to score, shame as Ollie was watching, it's a funny old game.

I think the club has high hopes for Battersby, I was told he is the only keeper from our academy to be given a pro contract for 30 years. Not sure how true that is?
Posted by: Abdul19, January 18, 2020, 12:40pm; Reply: 24
There's been a few who've been first year pros since hasn't there? (Overton, Fraser, Bastock off the top of my head)
Posted by: LH, January 18, 2020, 12:43pm; Reply: 25
It’s strange how it’s the only truly specialised position to play yet probably the easiest one to get a pro contract because you’re likely to be second choice at best in your first contract term.

Thought Love wasn't very good tbh (but he was playing in the second tier)

Whilst a team mate of his was GTFC legend Richard Ravenhill.

There's an Andrew Wright there too, no idea if it's the one who played for us.

We signed Pettinger as an 18 year old. He was at Scunthorpe until his 16th birthday and then joined Everton for a couple of seasons.

No, it's not. Their Andrew Wright used to play for Grantham Town. Another ex-Grimsby player is captain at Mickleover... Greg Young.

I feel time is running out for Cardwell, I hope he makes the most of this loan period and comes back and gets a fair shout, I feel his positional play needs some work, he scored an opportunist goal against the Scunts in that shitty cup thing. He just needs more consistency and be more of a threat going forward.

Whatever he said about no more signings being likely, it looks possible IH will have to get a striker from somewhere if only as back up for this injury prone lot we have. We could advertise for one with "Come to the Mariners, best treatment table in L2."

If you listen to Holloway's pre-match press conference he all but says he told Cardwell to go and prove himself and prove to Holloway he's worth keeping, unfortunately with the injury and his contract being up in summer I suspect he's a gonner..
In all honesty, for as much as never want to see anyone fail or be out of work, he's just never cut it at league level.
Wish him all the luck and hope he gets sorted out with a club but cannot see that being with GTFC.

He slammed one in for Chorley straight away do maybe he can do a job in the National League for someone if he recovers okay. If not I'm sure he more than capable in Conference North, and he can maybe build up again from there. Time is on his side he still pretty young.

It would be nice to see Dayle get back on track, he hasn’t really shone since he he had that brilliant 2 seasons at Boston after he left us.

To be fair to the lad he was never really given much of a chance.

Over the past few years we have persisted with playing some crap players who I wouldn't have played in the reserve team..

He put a shift in for the reserves against Rotherham and he was the biggest player on the pitch apart from Ohman. Despite his industry, he failed to take charge or physically dominate a young defence. Jolley should have sent him out last season to toughen him up mentally as well as physically. On top of his physical frailties, he is just too good looking and nice to threaten a L2 defence. Harry is quick and ok technically but, as with Rose, Cooke and Green, he has no wild card to make him stand out.
