SIX changes! Be interesting to see how we play sans Hanson. Pleased to see Cook and Robson back, and to see Rose and Wright get a start.

Going with pace, very brave selection but I'd say wednesday took a lot out of Hanson, green and others. I'm surprised to see Pollock starting as he looked as though he was carrying an injury on wednesday

Certainly different. Not much point in whacking it out from the back today, they’ll have to play it on the floor or at least they ought to.

This lineup could surprise Exeters defence as you would assume they would be expecting aerial stuff to Hanson. ??)

Would assume ogbu down the middle with rose and wright on the wings. We’ve got real pace there and we have to use it. Get robson on the ball

I think the Chelsea defeat has affected Jolly more than the players. The man's gone mad  :X   broadcast on F.M.

Plan B from the kick off, Plan A lumping it to Hanson if losing! More pace in starting line up
Posted by: A.l.f., September 28, 2019, 3:15pm; Reply: 15
Brave line up but good idea.  Exeter would have their defensive game plan around Hanson.  Give them something to think about with Wright and Rose's pace down the flanks and give their wide men something to think about and stop them getting forward so much.
Can bring Hanson on second half to mix it up, especially if we can get in front.

Is Rose actually any good? Any half decent striker at least works the keeper when clean through on goal like that. To hesitate and get dispossessed there is really really poor.

Posted by: sonofmadeleymariner, September 28, 2019, 3:55pm; Reply: 36
We're playing very well. We're playing some nice pass and move football. Back 4 are looking very solid. Midfield is supporting both the strikers and the defenders, instead of sitting deep we are pressing them quite high and are now forcing them to play long balls instead of the pretty passing football they were doing in the first 10 minutes.

Robsom scored a cracker. Watched it back still can't figure out how he curled that in from that angle.

Refs having a decent game. Maybe a but quick with the cards but nothing to moan about really.

Good first half of football. If we keep this up and the back 4 keep up the hard work we should be looking good in the 2nd half.
Posted by: headingly_mariner, September 28, 2019, 3:57pm; Reply: 37
For me that is our best half of football of the season.
Played lots of football and defended very well. Ogbu has been a nuisance and held the ball up well. Robson, Cook and Hess really looking after the ball, they have much more craft than whitehouse and Hewitt. Wright really showing that he is a league player as well.

Defence great also.

Outstanding performance against a good team.

Cook, Hess and Robson must be the starting 3 in midfield. They were fabulous.

Max Wright caused them all sorts of problems.

Great performance by Town overall. Apart from 5 minutes before the end of the 1st half and 10 at the start of the 2nd we were more then a match for the formally undefeated league leaders.

Lovelly passing football on display, pace up front high press and a midfield that supported both processes of the game.

Apart from the ref not giving them a peno (thank god) and being a little card happy he had a good game as well. We don't get to say that too often.

MoM any of the middle three but Robson gets it for two cracking goals.

Plan A - this team - passing footy
Plan B - Long ball Hanson

Said for a while we have some very good footballers who need to be in the team, built around a system that allows them to play good passing footy

If that means Hanson, Green, Whitehouse on bench then so be it

Third goal was a beauty

Robson looks class act
Cook - very good footballer
Hess - see points above
Ogbu - will be marmite but when he's on song he's a big threat
Wright - quality

It's time to get excited I think - or is it L2 football?
Great one week
Crap the next!

Great team performance.  Rode our luck in places but I think we could have got more in the last ten if we'd gone for it instead of holding onto possession.  I don't blame them for it though.  Feels good being able to bring a player like Hansen on.  He holds the ball up so well.  UTM!

That sounded fantastic on the radio and three well-worked goals.  Manager's starting XI and focus on pace was 100% vindicated with two goals on the break, and then dropping a man back into midfield to close it out with 442.

Superb.

I must admit to feeling pessimistic about a game I was sure would bring another backs to the wall struggle ........ but that changed as soon as I saw the team sheet.

One player with pace can be marked out of a game but 3 or 4 players with pace just cannot all be kept quiet. I would say a well done to MJ today for using Plan B first. That's the way it oughta be, run 'em ragged from the off.
