Radio Humberside Sport bulletin this morning reported that Danny Collins and Luke Summerfield have both been given more time to consider their options by the club. Evidently both have more than one offer to contemplate.

Guessing it might be offers closer to home for both....role at Gateshead for Danny maybe? Macc for Summers?

Would be a blow to lose both of these, in my opinion.

Why does Summerfield live in the north west?!

I understand negotiating can take time. However, MJ needs to know how many players he is going to have to bring in. As an astute businessman I’m sure he will have this covered. Although Summerfield turned it round last season it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he left. I would like to see them both stay. But Collins would be my priority.

Not sure, perhaps it is just because he likes it across there.

He must do, seeing as he's from Devon and has never played permanently for a club there.

It's dragging on too long now. In my opinion,

We know Danny Collins is a classy centre back but he will be 38 by the time the season starts. He is a leader through the spine, but I have reservations off the ball where his age is starting to show against physically stronger young men.

Summerfield improved a lot last season, from such a poor baseline. He does try and pass the ball forwards, I'll give him that so I wouldn't expect a high pass completion rate but I don't remember him creating too many chances and his goals return of zero despite all those shots all season long speak volumes. We need to move forwards as club after that woeful and almost disastrous season.

I do have faith in the excellent Michael Jolley, he has been a revelation so far. But I would not have offered either a contract. That said, in Jolley I trust.

They were two of our better players when we were rubbish,

BUT

If they have better offers elsewhere good luck to them,

In Jolley we trust to find suitable replacements.

If they leave, they leave. We went 20 games without a win last season, none of our players are indispensable.

Exactly. Summerfield was dire at times in his first season. Collins too is definitely not irreplaceable.

They're not the first and definitely not the last players to turn a contract renewal down at town and as for all players who have left us, we normally bemoan how bad the replacements are...but in these 2-cases, one is class but age is not on his side, the other works like a trojan but in all honestly, hasn't got the skill or distribution of Martin Woolford, so imho, if they go, they go, if they stay then fair enough, but summers needs to add goals, because if he can't up his game again this season, then to me that's a place in the squad going to waste..

Exactly, we shouldn't waste time begging players to stay, we should be looking for better.

What's happening with Akheem Rose then?

Got to wait until July for akheem to be cleared.

Given Rose's reaction on twitter to being offered a new contract I'd be surprised if he wasn't with us next season:

bit worrying that Akheem Rose appears to be using Comic Sans ...

I'm just a bit worried that he wants to take his time out, for Christs sake he's just had a year out at our expense. ;)

That's not Comic Sans!

Looks Helvetica-ish to me.

they are obviously not keen otherwise they would be signing on the dotted. it is a case of "if nothing better crops up I might stay" You either want to play for us or you don't, let us know and we move on.

Maybe wouldnt be a bad thing if they said no earlier rather than later?
Collins at his age is a gamble for me anyway and Summerfield can very easily be replaced.
Im thinking mr Jolley has offered them wages he sees fit and may not be up to their liking.

Or they may have offers that are longer term than we have offered. They are both over 30 and, certainly in Collins case, probably signing their last or last but one contract.

You must be taking the piste-they were our 2 best players last season-lest anybody should forget. We are only offering 1 year contracts so if anybody came in and offered 2years  i wouldn't blame them. We were pig shite too clever over Arnold and Almond and suffered for it. don't let us make the same mistake

Some people have short memories golfer. Summers won several awards at POTY and was a shoe-in for the main award in many fans' eyes - if I was him I would have hoped to get a 2 year deal.

Macca was our best player and they were average at best in a well below average team
Can't even compare them with Arnold and Amond

Summerfield was one of our most consistent performers last season. Even during the bad run he always gave 100% and tried to encourage others around him. He won over a lot of fans with his attitude (me included).  I was happy he was offered a new deal......but if he decides his future is elsewhere so be it.

Good luck to him and he would go with my best wishes and I hope should he ever return to BP in another sides colours he would be given a warm reception. But he is replaceable as is everyone  of course. But lets not pretend he is one of Town's greats. A good honest pro.

As for Collins. A bit like Summerfield. A good pro. Plenty of experience at a high level but he is 38 I think. His playing time is coming to an end. Worth a 1 year deal but if he chooses to go, like Summerfield, then fine we bring someone else in.

Summers and Collins were two of our best performers toward the end of the season and it was usually a toss up which one was MOM for me in most games, but it has to be said that we weren't of the required standard by a long way last season, so is it just that they were the best of a bad bunch? Won't be ecstatic if they stay, won't be despondent if they leave.

Summerfield was great last year and stand out player of the season for me. I want him to stay.
Collins incredibly consistent and so again I hope he stays utm

all three are average at best, there is better players available.

We had all this last year with Collins, no doubt being the calibre of player he was he probably just has a better agent wringing every last cent out of the negotiation. I think he'll end up signing just like last year.

he will sign because we will be his best option

Summerfield carried his midfield partner through 3/4 of this season and it was no coincidence that our cracking end to the season coincided with his return from injury. For me he was stand out player of the year by a mile .He did the hard bits well but his distribution let him down the season before but he corrected that this term.

We need 20 odd players for the squad these two are reliable and have proved time and again they give 100% that`s enough for me I hope they both stay.Yes they have flaws but we are a League 2 side and these are excellent squad players for that level.

If they sign great if they dont well not too bothered , these are average to better than average on there day .

Lets be honest they arent irreplaceable and its not like we have a situation were both cant easily be replaced by better or the same standard.
