Reliably informed that a deal to take him to L1 (yes L1!) Northampton fell through on deadline day. Apparently he's gutted as he doesn't feel that he's been given much of a chance here.

Everyone has been quick to make their minds up about him, but to be fair to the lad he really has barely played at all. How many appearances/minutes has he played for us?

There is probably a few players that feel the same.. some have just not performed after being got here.. now is this that they just are not good enough.. or is it the system / set up and what slade wants them to do that is making them look bad ?

According to Soccerbase he’s played 3 league games and made 2 sub appearances this season. Bizarre.

Another case of baffling recruitment, especially if he had been shipped out last week without hardly figuring for the side.

Brought in on Wilko's advice wasn't he? Slade takes a look and doesn't like what he sees. Maybe one small part of the alleged cool relationship between the two of them? Who knows?

Never seen such a player be such a wimp on his debut . Waste of air IMo

Slade doesn't seem to fancy DJ either - another (likely) Wilko recommended signing.

It seems to me like Slade only wants to play his players. 'If you were signed by Bignot, Hurst or recommended by Wilko, sorry, don't want you. Won't even try and work with you, or coach you..

That type of attitude.

Not sure it explains Berrett and Summerfield although this time last year we could have named a starting XI full of central midfielders. Now we lack quality and depth in that department.

It's been an extremely odd season all round and Sam Kelly represents just one tiny fragment of it.

Not sure that theory stacks up, in addition to Summerfield and Berrett there’s Macca, Davies, Collins, Mills and to a lesser extent Vernon have all been playing regularly and were all signed by Hurst

Nothing the guy does makes any sense. A complete goner -didn't even know how many loan players we were allowed last week. I bet he doesn't know half the players names.  "who's that chap on the left-does he play for us.Tonto"

When a manager looses the dressing room I think they tend to bring in lots of players/loans to somehow try and get it back, bizarre logic but plenty do it

So has it gone from "worst signing in years" to "Boo! Slade give him a chance!" now? Never seen a player improve so much by not getting in the team lol.

We must have wanted 2 bob and they offered 1/6d, cheeky buggers always wanting something for nothing

Seem's to always happen here.

Cardwell, Clements and Asante for example...

I don’t think that’s happening in this thread though Is it? Definetky the case with Clements and Asante, mind.

In the case of SK, we really have barely seen him....and he hasn’t even gone out on loan and done crap there ala Clements, Asante.

...in the same way that a player has a few off games is suddenly "stealing a living".

I have only seen him play once that was the Wigan friendly pre season,

He seemed to be a good footballer and had a good cross in him,

So I was a bit confused when most on here said he was rubbish.

He seems to be reasonably quick, has decent close-control and runs at players. However, he just never achieved anything in the games where I saw him play (including the pre-season matches) - never beat a man that I can remember, never got a decent cross in, never did anything much. Tended to get muscled off the ball very easily by the defenders.

I saw him play as left back once this season and tbf i thought he did ok. Got forward and put some decent crosses in . Defended alright considering it was not his natural position.

We dont see what the boss sees on the training pitch but thought as we have had some injuries in that position and Dixon has not pulled up any trees he would got more of a chance. Certainly on the face of it he hasnt had much of one.

I've seen Kelly a few times this season and on each occasion I though he was dire, in fact that's being kind. I remember writing on here than I couldn't remember a player that offered so little to a team, he couldn't shoot, he couldn't pass, he couldnt/wouldn't tackle, he was weak... I could go on. It angers me that he will potentially be collecting a wage for the next 16 months with little chance if getting near the first XI.

Saw him pre season...first time i gave him the benefit of the doubt i think.....second time i thought i was right first time and when i saw a rare appearance in the first team i thought definitely right first time.
The fact that Woolford was brought in pretty quickly to "strengthen" those wide positions says it all to me......and bearing in mind none of his competitors have nailed the position down for themselves he should have the impetus to go and grab the shirt and make it his own.  The fact he either hasn't or cant tells a story.

Who knows, he may do a Summers type Phoenix from the ashes revival. I've seen stranger things in footy.

Theres a reason he doesn't play, he's excrement. Theres a reason Vale didn't bother to try and retain his and Hoopers services when they were relegated.

I don't buy this idea that we got him on Wilko's recommendation. Slade's the manager so he should have checked him out properly before we signed him.

He's still only 1 goal behind Matt, which i think sums up our season.

Anyone know why the transfer broke down?

If he's never, ever, ever, ever, ever going to play and he's unhappy about that then let's find someone, somewhere, somehow, who can take him on. Come on Sladeball earn some of that allegedly overblown salary!
