I'm a Town fan currently writing a dissertation on changing football culture between 1980 and 2010. I've got a few questions at the centre of the research and I'd be grateful if anyone could provide (very) quick responses to any of them. Feel free to go off on a tangent.

Anything you could provide would be extremely beneficial.

During this period:
How did football clubs/ institutions present their relationship to their fans and local communities?
How was this changed by the increasing commercialisation and internationalisation of the sport?
How did fan groups seek to resist/challenge changes in the sport?
How were concepts such as traditionalism, authenticity and community used in these debates?
How was the sport viewed by political/ social/cultural elites?
How did the media shape/ intervene in these debates?

Facking hell they're big questions and it's a long period. Not averse to answering some specific questions, but If anyone answered these ones they'd be writing your essay for them. Is this what they mean by crowdsourcing?

Wow, big task that.

As a basis for this I would read up on.

- The invention of satellite TV and subscriptions
- The launch and subsequent power of the Premier League
- The change from The European Cup to The Champions League and the cash cow it's become due to advertising
- Bradford, Heysall (spelling),Hillsborough disasters
- All seated stadiums
- MK Dons/AFC Wimbledon
- The internet and smart phones versus teletext and the newspapers
- The sale of Man U to the Glaziers and set up of FC United
- Supporters Clubs morphing into Fans Trusts - Swansea and Pompey?

And my personal bug bare the dilution of the FA Cup.........I used to love the draw on a Monday Dinner Time

Not sure it's relevant to your question but have a look at The Bosman ruling as that has also contributed to lots of change, not all good I feel  

There is loads more but they are examples that spring to mind.

Good luck, if you find the answers to all that you should get a Doctorate not a degree.

Your welcome, throw something in about top flight football match prices and the lack of accessibility to minimum wage earners as that really p1sses me off.
