Would be interesting to see how many players you think we would need to bring in to sustain a challenge for the play-offs this season. A comparison hand in hand with Ginny's poll to ascertain fan and club expectations for the season and how good you think the squad is at present.

I voted four players. Definitely an experienced centre back and striker, though young fringe players from a higher level on loan may do the job. Would also like to see a dominant midfielder and possibly a tricky winger. Some of the wingers we have now are promising but not yet fully fledged first team regular material. Browne and Tombola spring to mind.

Think we will get 2 if we're lucky, so they need to be players ready to hit the ground running and improve us from the off.

Agree with everything you say, every position, Ginny..  As long as the signings improve us. Need four will get two max.

I think ph is really struggling or is he actually being picky.  I see cambridge have signed ex watford striker Uche Ikpeazu.  Looks a big striker.

Well I'm sure it's partly there. Not many people want to live in this area most people who live here were born here.

As for what we need we need another defender preferably one who can slot in a couple of positions and has a bit of pace. I'd be happier with two defenders one who is a bit quick and one with some height and strength. Then a proper winger if we aren't changing formation. It's tempting to say another striker but I think what we have can work if they get it together. Bogle and Jackson seem to be individuals rather than strike partners at the minute they don't link up well at all.

I cant see anymore tbh.

I voted for 5 based on going for promotion but dont think we will need more than 1 or 2 to be mid table and comfortable. I would take mid table tbh as he has largely built a brand new team and as history of the Hurst shows his teams are not immediate winners.
They tend to be ok then he cuts the deadwood and adds to the spine.

Its not instant success and never will be with a small budget.

How many would take mid table this year followed by a good promotion push next, especially coming out of non league. Players will still be hard to attract as ever because of geography.
Surely there could be trials for local league players to come in and have a bash in the reserves to see how they would fair? i know there must be a good few players from a local leagues that are good enough but for one reason or another they have been snubbed?

I had thought we needed at least 3 and probably four players, but then I thought...

What happens if Andrew gets injured? Who's  the back up left back?

Isn't Dan Jones a centre back? We keep hearing that we've only got three centre backs, so is Jones a centre back or left back?

Dan Jones is a centre back but PH sees him as back up left back

We could be signing up to FOUR new players before the transfer deadline according to the Telegraph -

I wish john wouldnt do his customary deadline transfer splash statement.

It always leads to the line " unfortunatley if a player doesnt want to come we cant do anything about that "

All fart no follow through.

Has Reuben Reid been fixed up yet? I would like him to come, unlikely though I must admit

Still 4, you need to have good cover in all positions under the new rules.

Err - 'the new rules' - so if Town don't sign 4 players before end of August 2016 - is there some sort of enforcement action / penalty against Town for not signing 4 players?

Today showed the importance of a squad with plenty of cover. A few injuries and we suddenly have 2 players with limited experience on the bench. Wonder if Vose would have started today if Berrett hadn't got injured in training?

I'd be surprised if we don't sign a centre half and striker by Wednesday.

Eh - the team has 'gelled' early and more 'journeyman' players (who no one wants) are going to come in and 'wreck' the team spirit? Save your money Town and back the players (and management team) we have.   ;)

TeesToGreen,

Remember there is no loan window outside the normal transfer window so we do need players coming in to pad out the squad

Goalkeeper
Centre back
Striker

In Paul - I trust (taken a few seasons but this guy pulls rabbits out of hats, when you don't expect it)

Izale McLeod has left Notts County. Scored 10 goals for them last season but failed to make an appearance this season.

He is at Yeovil

Aye we'll just go through the whole season with only 3 strikers and hope none of them get injured or suspended at any point.

Midfield x 2
Centre half x1

Reuben Reid has not yet signed for Newport County so he's still available.

Under 36 hours to go until the deadline.

Can't say I am optimistic about permanent signings but think there may be a loan deal or two to be had until Jan

I think Paul learnt lessons from bringing in players last year last minute who obviously weren't good enough to go into the first team . I would rather the young lads get a chance if it meant us bringing in bang average players like last season even if if we are light . In an ideal world we will  splurge all the budget on a clone of Andy Todd at CB . Don't think it will happen though .

A striker is an absolute must. Surely peoe can see that. One injury and we will have no cover and no proper options until January. That would be lunacy and a huge risk to take. We might be able to just about fudge it in other positions but we need players there too. If we don't see a couple of signings or loans at least I think it will be massively disappointing.
