Phoenix Bessemer intrigued me enough to look them up. Entered the FA Cup in 1882/3 is all the info Wiki had on them.

Was a steelworks in us Rotherham apparenty.

That's a cool little database rob. Can't believe we haven't played Manchester United for nearly 70 years and only played them once ever in the fa cup. That's unlucky!

Grimsby Town 5 Cleethorpes 0 in the FA Cup in 1885-1886 must have been a cracker. Bet there were celebrations long into the night  :)

Metropolitan police will be 200th team. I hope so, I cAn then bring them to task about this new craze "dry trains" :(

Doubt it will be this season Rob, we won't be playing anyone new in the league so it has to be in trophy or FA cup. Who are the most glamorous team we could draw in the 3rd round of the FA Cup to make it 200 i.e. the team highest up the pyramid we haven't yet played.

I suspect it would be glamorous Stevenage.

Salford in the next round of the cup?

Suits me 15 mins from my house and looking at them if we went for it we would beat them, though I was surprised they beat Gillingham yesterday.

If not on the pitch our away support would overwhelm them.

They'd be new, we've never played them before. The team that replaced us!

Amazing really that we've never played Stevenage over the years.

What about the Italian sides we played in the Anglo Italian Cup,

Plus other continental teams we have played in friendlies,

Do you have a list for them as well Rob ?

Is Japan the only country we've ever played?!

We never made it to the stage where we would have faced the Italian teams (unless my memory fails me).

We drew 1 -1 against Czechoslavakia in 1958. Town's first ever live TV appearance.

Correct, there's a list of the games we played in the Anglo-Italian cup and there are also pages other minor trophies like that such as the Anglo-Scottish cup that we took part in.

Now that would be worth seeing...along with "Cholmondley-Warner" style commentary no doubt!  ;)

That brought back a bad memory of going to Filbert Street...we were dire and a 4-0 defeat flattered us. Arrivederci Roma that night for sure!

Bobby Davison got a hat-trick for them if I remember correctly and at the time I remember thinking I'd never seen such a heavily tattooed player. How times change eh!

I could not remember if we played any Italian sides just knew we were in the competition,

BUT

I do remember us playing Brondby in a friendly,

We drew 2-2 I did not realise how big a club they were at the time.

Peter Schmeichel was in goal for Brondby that day IIRC.

Who fills in the database and how plastered did they get after we beat Halifax 7-0 at home for them to put a 0-7 away defeat in there?

Up to 97 on the database but well over 100 if you include the Ibiza cup and the trips to Denmark and Sweden. Not bad as I only average a dozen games a year

Just a quick count but reckon I've seen us against 143 of those, plus a few pre-season friendlies like the Brondby game and I think we played Dundee at home one pre-season too.
Posted by: grimsby pete, November 13, 2015, 4:58pm; Reply: 28
I have seen us play 112 of those teams,

Not bad seeing as I have lived in Suffolk for over 28 years.

131 I think

Include friendlies, "A" team, Lincs League etc and you'll probably double that lot.
Posted by: LH, November 13, 2015, 5:35pm; Reply: 31
Over 100 I think - the joys of being a team who have slid down the football pyramid.  It feels like we've played about 50 in the Conference years.

There will be a few of our younger fans who have never seen us play in the league,

Don't worry , we will be back.

I reckon I have seen about 130 of them at home and about 60 of the away. (sharabi)(sharabi)(sharabi)(sorry)
Shows how old I am  ??)

Somewhere between 130 and 140. There's a few i think i've seen but not 100% sure. Memory banks fading with age.

I have only seen us play at 30 of those away grounds,

BUT

I have been to some of them many times,

I am a creature of habit , I think,

OR

I just like to travel to the ones that it does not take too much time to get to,

Even more so since I have been living down here,

That has made it easy to get to the wonders of Ebbsfleet, Boreham Wood, Histon Kettering ect,

I would like to return to the likes of Cambridge Ipswich and Norwich before I pop my clogs though.

Counting them properly it's 131 and I'm not sure if I've seen us play Cardiff and one or two others. I need to wake up to myself.

Last time I saw us play Cardiff we won 6-3!!

One of the very few places I haven't been to for an away game. (Apart from the Millenium Stadium that is)

I can remember one time when we played Swansea and  losing 4-0 at half time,

Then we scored 3 in the 2nd half but could not get an equaliser,

I was in the Ponny and all 7 goals were scored at that end.

I think we actually had the choice of whether to go to Italy if we "qualified" and I'm pretty sure we'd decided we wouldn't be going.
