Tonight's the night to drop the boring long ball to Monkhouse and abandon this ridiculous obsession with clean sheets !

We are playing the team who have conceded more goals than any other team in the division !

Time to drop Monkhouse and Tomlinson, play with wingers, also release Bogle and Armond from their shackles as they will have a field day against this type of opposition.

Come on Paul, you know you want to............

What we will actually get is none of the above, it will be a hard fought, dour 1-0 win against TOUGH opposition and Paul will get a semi at the thought of another clean sheet !!

Here's hoping we get the former.

If we cant lay down our intent tonight we never will.

A convincing win is needed.

See you all there.

A convincing win would be nice.

What's needed is a win, any type of win.  1-0, 7-0, 3-2, 6-5....

I don't think you'll get your wish Sir, let's just hope we do the biz regardless

If I remember rightly when we weren't keeping clean sheets all everyone on here said was "sort the clean sheets out". Now we're keeping them instead we hear cries for "more goals".

Can't we have both? I may be being greedy but that's how champions are made!

Sorry but I think there were about 5 people moaning about keeping a clean sheet.

Not everyone  :)

I think 99% of posters would rather we win 4-1 than 1-0.

If you are the 1% please tell why.

I'd take a 1-0 win now if you offered me it but I am hoping we'll go for more and risk conceding as a consequence. The win is all that matters to me.

Probably because a 3 goal win is better than a 1 goal win.

Let's have a 7-0 win  :P

Nobody but perhaps Barcelona and Real Madrid score 4 goals most games and it is often a struggle to score even one.

Earlier in the season, I was saying that I would have preferred to win 3-0 or even 2-0 because keeping a tight defence is a good habit to have.

Of we'd conceded 1 goal less in each of the first 6 games, we'd have won another 7 points! Good defences turn draws into wins and defeats into draws.

We've got the good defence in recent matches, but now just need to get the odd goal at the other end as well.

I'm sure the balance can be found.

Amond and Bogle start

We could score one more; goals turn defeats into draws and draws into wins.

Given that 'setting up' for clean sheets is the negative cousin of 'setting up' for attacking, I'd make a case that one method can lead to negative momentum within a game whilst the other, well, the opposite.

There is hard proof that if you do anything with winning in mind, you win more and if you do anything with losing in mind, you lose more*

*granted, thinking about 'not conceding' is not the same as thinking about 'losing' but either way, and for the purposes of the above, you're not thinking about scoring...

Paul Hurst is not, by nature, a winner. Of this I am in no doubt.

And yet he's achieved more in football than most people will ever do.

Ridiculous comment

You make a fair point Vance. Compared to the majority of the population Hurst has had an unfeasible level of success in football.

But I don't think the previous poster was really talking about the general population.

I just had that feeling inside that we would hit 7. same as the night we hit 7 past Stockport on a cold Tuesday night.
