Seen a report that s Brazilian consortium has bought Northampton. They have wiped out the £13 million debt.

So it looks like another mega bucks outfit will be buying their way up the leagues before long.

Led by Pato isn’t it? The ex Chelsea player.

I don’t get why these clubs are attractive to megabucks owners, it’s not as if Northampton have an illustrious history.

Hardly a sleeping giant. I still remember when they shared their ground with the cricket club and only had 3 stands.

They’re not even the most popular sports club in Northampton. And that’s by some distance.

Why not?
Rapidly growing area population 250k close to M1 and main growth corridor and 60 miles from London
Its future potential these foreign buyers are interested in not whether they shared with the cricket club 30 years ago .

Northampton is and always will be a rugby town primarily.

They have plenty of potential support as they outnumbered us almost 2-1 in the 98 playoff final

It isn't on the balance of probability going to be any giant success story .

If you look at American investment in division 4  it's almost been that Wrexham were the anomaly , no one else has actually managed to go through the leagues the right way Gillingham & Carlisle have actually done worse whilst throwing loads of money at it .

Not to say they won't do well but it seems the whole 'capital is king' philosophy really doesn't work in division 4 all the time especially for people that are not used to English football .

In isolation Nothampton thought they were massive before that 98 game , their fans were pretty smug beforehand . Was nice to beat them that day . Hopefully they actually bring a few more to BP when we play them now and we win again .

I wonder how much Pato bought the club for or was it just the 13 mill (to clear the debts).  He went to buy Colchester but i'm assuming nothing could be agreed as i think Colchester debt is probably higher.  While its great someone like Pato can come in and takeover the club, you just hope he is also invested in the community.
