We've had a whole raft of superstar names at BP over the years but which opposition players stood out and had a great game vs Town or dud we the Town fans love to hate?
In my time Terry Curran always caused us problems for his host of Yorkshire Clubs.A hated but rated opponent
Charlie Nicholas hat trick for Arsenal
Muzzy Izzet overhead kick
David Speedie Got the full Pontoon repertoire for Coventry and a red card.

More recently
Matt Rhead Lincoln we were joined at the hip fior a few years and he always gave us problems

Van Veen the ginger pig Scunny

Who do you remember and why?

Definitely Charlie Nicholas, I was stood in the Osmond Stand that day when he scored from those free kicks at the pontoon end and everyone could see where he was going to put the free kick but town’s defenders and I think it was Nigel Batch in goal couldn’t do a thing about them. Very good player.

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

Tommy Mooney comes to mind; a quick search suggests 9 goals in 15 appearances against us

Ray Houghton for Fulham always sticks in my mind. Totally ran the game.

Darren Eadie for Norwich sticks out as a really good player who scored a few against us. Really pacey player, remember he scored a couple in one of many games where Jason Pearcy stunk the joint out.

He retired quite young due to recurring injuries, something about super fast players that has them struggling to stay in the game at their peak for long.

For villains Harry Pell and Richard Brodie were always fun ones to be in the Pontoon for.

I think Bully had one good game vs Town. He never scored in the FA Cup game he and his partner Andy Mutch had ripped the lower leagues to shreds.Aldridge I agree

Robert Prosinecki came here with Pompey and still had all the skills. He’s an all-time great of European football.

As was said upthread, John Aldridge and Steve Bull always seemed to score here. David James and Mark Schwarzer both had very good games here for Watford and Bratfud before going onto bigger things. And of course Andy Cole, who I think scored for both Bristol City and Newcastle at BP and was always a handful.

Edgar Davids with Barnet was miles above his very limited team mates but still conducted them with ease without really leaving the centre circle, not that it did them any good as they lost and got some Harrington Street landmines on the way back to the bus for their trouble.

I think if was a night game Eadie tore us to pieces possibly alongside Huckerby who was also rapid.
