Bought a tear my eye, watching that back, a night a never forget, for so many reasons.

I watched the draw and was in disbelieve that we had just drawn Manchester United at home in the cup, within minutes, the amount of messages I received, was unbelievable, asking. can you get me a ticket, I am just a volunteer who looks after the Press Room on matchdays, God knows what the players mobiles were like.

I was fortunate, knowing that I was going to be at Blundell Park (no worrying about getting a ticket for me) that night to watch Town take on Manchester United, the only team in my lifetime (5  I had not seen Town play.

I got down there early, to ensure that I had everything ready and in place in the Press Room for the busiest night ever.  I have never seen so much media ,the press room is just a portacabin stuck in the Harrington Street corner, not big enough to accommodate everyone, so the quiet room and new media room was allocate to them. The media had they own security, personal assistants, you name it they had it.

I went into the media room and just sat there was Louis Saha preparing his notes for the game, next to him was Sam Matterface tucking into a chicken drumstick, he asked me if we had any tomato sauce, i replied "yes I have a bottle in the Press Room", the assistant came and collected for him.

Back in the press room, photographers, radio commentators, local and national newspaper reporters were arriving, it was a hive of activity, you feel the buzz amongst the media, the talk of a shock on the cards, they could have never envisaged what was going to play out that night, right in front of them. I was constantly serving drinks, making sure everyone had what they required, in  between exchanging small talk with the likes Jim Proudfoot, Dean Ashton and Dion Dublin, I asked him if he was filming for homes up the hammer and what changes he would make to Blundell Park, he replied, nothing, this ground has character.

You could hear the noise from inside the press room, the buzz of excitement around the ground, the atmosphere was electric leading up to that moment the players appeared from the tunnel.

I was still serving drinks when the game kicked off, the only down side for me, they was no seat available for me, so I had to make my way down to the where the ambulance was parked to watch the game with rkid.

Then that moment on the 21st minute the cross from Burns to Vernam, the control then the finish and Blundell Park erupted, the place was rocking, only for it to get even better on the 29th minute a corner taken by Vernam, Onana makes a pigs ear of trying to claim the ball, which falls to the feet of Warren, who had a simple tap in to make it, yes 2-0 to the mighty mariners. In the distance the black clouds were gathering. Pym makes two good saves in the space of a couple minutes on the 40th minute and Town go in at half time 2-0 up.

The second half and United make a triple change, bringing the big hitters of Mbeumo, Fernandes and Deligt on, around the 49th minute the rain started when Burns had a chance to make it 3-0 and then the heavens opened, at this point I had to retreat to the Press Room to watch the game on the TV in the press room, then a smart looking bloke in a blue suit came in, soaked, he asked if he could the game with me in the press room, it was only Danny Simpson Premier league winner with Leicester City, he commented that the game and atmosphere was amazing.
Pym makes a good save on 63 minutes, Town make two changes Green and Vernam make way for Turi and Brown, Mount enters the game for United. Then on the 70th minute Gardner had his goal controversially ruled out for offside after Harry Maguire was deemed not to have intentionally played the ball, which set the striker through on goal.
On the 74 minute Mbeumo pulls one back for United with a defected shot. Maguire cost me £500 when he scored in the 88th minute to make it 2-2, I had a bet on Vernam to score first and Town to win 2-1 at odds of 500-1, United have a big chance on the 95th minute to win the game, its blasted over the bar form a few yards out, so it was now down to penalties.

Penalty shoot out in front of the Pontoon, the scores are 2-2 when Odour steps and his penalty is saved, Brown steps up and makes 4-4, but united have the chance  to win the tie, up steps Chuna and Pyms saves, then its 5-4, 5-5, 6-5, 6-6, 7-6, 7-7, 8-7, 8-8, 9-8, 9-9, 10-9, 10-10 every player has taken a penalty, we start again 11-10, 11-11, 12-11 up steps Mbeumo and blasts his penalty against the bar, Town have won 12-11 penalties.

The rest is history and will never be forgotten.

I have seen Town beat Wolves and Everton in 79, I was at the Tottenham game in 2005 and many other games play-off semi=finals under the lights at Blundell Park, but nothing comes close to that night, for atmosphere, the way we played, the weather adding to the drama, then that penalty shootout top it off.

I managed to get to McMemeny's for a quick well earned pint just before midnight, before heading off home.
