Social media v The fishy

I must admit I just naturally assumed that any member of the Grimsby town staff would avoid this page like the plague. Facebook and X have the ability to spit out posts you don’t want to see so I just assumed players and staff were upset by comments on those channels?
I just use this group to discuss football like a group of people in a pub would do , no harm intended but just sharing opinions etc
My son is 18 and a GK and he sees things differently. He thinks the treatment of Pym by some town fans on social media has been embarrassing and disgusting. After all he’s our player and what ever has gone on behind the scenes he’s still our number 1
So is it ok to vent in here or shall we all just calm down and support the team ?

We do support the team but if you go down the pub after the game do we praise some players and criticise others? Of course we do, Greeny was bang average yesterday, Sweeney got away with a terrible back pass, Maldini was like a rock, Doyle was busy and had some nice touches, our passing was very mixed and we wasted loads of situations. That’s what we discussed in the pub and that’s what’s discussed on the fishy, plenty of disagreements, some arguments and proof we all see players, tactics and refereeing performances differently.

Not sure where debate and even being critical of à team member is not supporting the team? I would agree that shouting, booing or verbally abusing a player who is playing whilst at the game is not supporting the team but unfortunately the vast majority of us are guilty at cursing individuals, even if we think it’s too ourselves, when a player makes a mistake, human nature.

Social media is toxic af. It triggers people and has them at their worst. This place isn't perfect, but it's far better.

Social media is irrelevant and is just a tiny fraction of the fanbase where hotheads often rule. Best just ignore it, including here although those of us who use it like the cut and thrust.

You could see on Saturday amongst the sea of black and white the support for the club is the highest for decades.

Honestly I think the fishy is fairly mild compared to the absolute dross you see on the mass social media platforms.  

Also like most here  i've been on a fair few other clubs main forums and this is no worse than any other club from what i've seen. People gonna have opinions and they are not always gonna be favourable, I'm not sure what anyone can do about that as long as we all call out anything that goes too far.

I’ve always maintained that The Fishy attracts a much more level-headed community than platforms like Facebook. The drivel you see on "Praise & Grumble" just wouldn't get tolerated here.

It’s a shame the club's and external fans perception of the forum hasn't caught up with the actual quality of current posts. I think it’s a hangover from the Fenty era.

It’s also worth noting, while unofficial club boards elsewhere are dying out, The Fishy continues to go from strength to strength - huge credit to Rob + Co for that.

Sure, we disagree, and a few posts miss the mark occasionally, but the standard of debate here is miles ahead of typical social media.

We’re all bloody sad. However, I’m 4,000 posts and have absolutely no intention of stopping.

Crikey if you think the fishy is bad you should have seen the Exeter fans comments I saw Virtually to a man they hate the manager, most of the players and the way the clubs run.I got the impression it's heading into Fenty type misery best that fans support the players in the ground and vent on fishy type forums.Any players who read these forums need to understand the forum does a lot of good in general but after games it's a melting pot of opinions. I  like most have watched a game and give an opinion on a performance or a player and seen other opinions that are polar opposite at that point I ponder where the poster sits? If a player does something that annoys me I will generally wait til I get on here to let rip and usually I stay and applaud the team off regardless of result like I did last week v Blackpool. UTM

If anyone thinks this place is bad, I’d suggest they’ve got short memories and a limited understanding of the internet.

The Pym stuff has been done to death but Cod Almighty said it well in the week when they suggested there had been an assumption of abuse, and it’s clear to anyone with eyes that for every slightly negative comment about him there’s 3 or 4 the other way. I think people who aren’t very online, like Artell, assume players are getting the kind of direct abuse that Premier League players are subject to from all over the globe, which isn’t the case.

It wasn’t that long ago someone had Anthony Williams up for sale on eBay, people were hanging banners outside the owner’s house and fans were regularly confronting players, staff and directors in car parks at BP and across the country. This place is positively utopian compared to those days, everyone from the ref to the stadium announcer has had positive feedback from Saturday.
