I've heard that Lincoln have come back in and Shaun's leaving us to go to Lincoln. It'll announced before the end of this week the lad who told me also said him and DA also had bust up away on the camp and Shaun got a separate flight home.
The lad who told me has always been spot on with his info so we will see what happens.
Ben Davies apparently been offered the NO2 gig.

Sounds like he’s off, sadly. However if I had a quid for every bust up Artell’s apparently had we’d be in a new stadium.
Artell doesn’t strike me as a bloke that has many bust ups, especially not every other week.

Lincoln might need their defence bolstering but I think Mr. Pearson is too old to play for them.

To paraphrase Ivan Drago - if he goes, he goes.
Always seemed to me like Pearson (and Davies until he was shuffled out of the picture) were foisted on Artell after their caretaker spell. Maybe that worked better than him bringing all his own staff in, who knows.
All I’d say is that the club have looked to improve in every area over the last 5 years. It would be some stroke of luck if the absolute best we could do for an assistant manager was already in the building, coaching the kids, when the new owners came in.

Ok as much as I think he’s a great guy & a bit of a legend at Town let me rephrase the question, why would they want Shaun? DA name checked him in his interview tonight as part of his staff so let’s see.

Presumably he’s a decent coach. Whilst from the outside looking in the gimps’ decision to replace Skubala with inexperienced joint-managers already on the payroll looks odd, their decision making in terms of player and staff recruitment has evidently been begrudgingly solid in recent years.

No idea if this has legs but it's odd a Championship side wanting a league 2 assistant manager/coach ? Then I'd assume Pearson has a secure job at Town and going to Lincoln must be a risk given they're relegation favourites and he would surely need a huge wage increase to take the risk? I like SP and I'd wish him well he looks to me like a Manager in waiting.

I mean why wouldn’t Shaun blurt out potentially confidential information when he’s accosted by a stranger, whilst going about his normal everyday activities?

I agree why would he however he wasn't accosted as Shaun is very approachable. But when he was asked directly because someone cares and wants him part of the set up at the club he said there was no truth in it so you have to take that at face value. I guess we'll see who is right and who is wrong in the next couple of weeks going by the originator of this post. My money though is he is going nowhere.

Agree. Everyone who knowns him and I don’t say he’s a lovely guy but is he a great coach ?? Let him go I say and let DA bring in someone. If he’s not getting a say at town as some are suggesting what chance as he got with Lincoln and their ten managers 😀

Funnily enough you’ve both missed the player I’d argue has the highest ceiling of our current crop in Maldini. Doesn’t look or play like a 20-year old. Agree with your sentiment all the same. Squad game, innit.

Only spoken to Shaun briefly, it was immediately clear he is football mad and he is a top bloke. I hope he does go and earns more money, and is then in the shop window to become a championship level manager. He's been superb for us over two spells as a player, should never have been forced out and owes us nothing. Good luck to him whatever happens.

Echo that sentiment, always see him out and about with his other half and the dog. Absolute top guy and a great professional. Loves the club and the town, be a big miss to the club if he does go but I'm sure we'll be able to replace him well. I don't see any truth in Ben Davies getting the no 2 gig however, given he was moved off the coaching staff.

I think BD's role is key and look at what has happened this summer pre-season - he is basically the pathway to the first team top dog, and whilst we are blowing smoke up SPs rectum BDs knowledge and engagement are just as good. that isn't a slight on SP by the way.

Rumour was though, BD was moved to that role as he was seen to be leaking information regarding transfers if I'm not mistaken

He sighs...... nothing to do what they felt his skillset would bring to the table - has to be a negative Never let a good story get in the way of the truth - too many people on here who always think there is a story when there isn't and will make something up to suit - suggest someone asks DA if that is true next Q&A. If it was true it is gross misconduct and he would not have still been here you don't honestly think that DA/JS/AP/DC would have kept him do you??

Well given the one person that got every single thing spot on in regards to transfer on the forum seemed to lose all his information as BD was moved to a different role and stormed off the Fishy, could well be a coincidence but would be a rather funny one if so.

IF Shaun is to move on I suspect Ray Shearwood would be Assistant. He was brought in by Artell. His background suggests he is may be working below his level???

Apologies - a bad turn of phrase perhaps. He may well stay I was just pointing out that a chance meeting out and about isn’t the best evidence of it. I’m scarred though because when I was a youngster I saw Super Clive at pleasure island. I asked him if he was staying with us and he said yes and I got him to sign my brand new Ralph Lauren (rip off) shirt. My mum was none too happy. A few weeks later he was done.

I think I’d be surprised if Pearson left now for a number of reasons:
1) it’s right at the end of preseason: getting in someone else requires a certain level of adaptation right before the start of the season, even if it was Ben Davies. Different people in different roles would inevitably take time to bed in. It’s like letting a member of your teaching staff at a school leave a week before term starts. DA and Pearson will have planned for the season on the basis of the staff remaining intact
2) I wouldn’t have thought Town would want to create more disruption on the staff particularly after the passing of Alex Hughes. As DA alluded too, that’s not only had an emotional impact on the squad and staff but also a practical impact in that it has altered what DA has been doing over the summer. He’s likely to be unwilling to pick up other responsibilities while a new Assistant beds in
3) If Lincoln have joint managers, do they need an assistant? Could make for a crowded room in decision making
Just my thoughts but who knows.

Thought BD moved primarily because his wife is local and she works in Hull, so with a young family he wanted a role that wouldn’t see him fired if first team results were not good. Seemed a sensible choice to me.

BD wasn't Alan Buckley's source but it was someone who no longer works for us but would have 100% known who our transfer targets were.

Well given the one person that got every single thing spot on in regards to transfer on the forum seemed to lose all his information as BD was moved to a different role and stormed off the Fishy, could well be a coincidence but would be a rather funny one if so.
Didn't that meltdown and information dry up stop very close to the time that a reasonably high profile former employee moved to a rival club? I'm not insinuating anything, correlation doesn't mean causation, after all, but it's the first time I have heard anyone speculate against BD.

Yes. Completely and 100% definitely not connected but there seems to have been quite a few leaks coming out of Lincoln with regards signing this summer….

Just throwing it out there but unlike some of the soft-hearts, I was quite happy for the Gimps to go under when they were in non-league. Never ever wish a resurgence on a team who considers you a rival. For the same reason, Scunny can stay in the toilet forever as far as I’m concerned.

Each to their own of course but, football to me at least, is largely about the rivalries. I’d much rather be in the same division and have the opportunity to beat these teams we consider our biggest foes. Thats not being ‘soft hearted’ or even virtuous - it’s about lording it over them and making any success all the more sweeter!

Absolutely agree with this. As much as it's a good laugh to see Scunny in Non-League, surely you'd rather have regular derbies against your rivals. Give me Town, Hull, Scunthorpe and Lincoln in the same league rather than spread across four of the top five divisions any day

Cynical side of me thinks that it’s to avoid compensation that couldn’t be agreed.

If he’s not leaving to go to Lincoln I’d imagine there’s an agreement that he can’t take a new job for a specified amount of time perhaps? How it works in other jobs isn’t it, especially if this is so Lincoln don’t have to pay compensation? Or has Pearson bought his way out of his deal?

Sad to see this and honestly thought he'd be staying. But if someone doesn't want to be somewhere or has a financially better offer then we move on. A replacement has probably already been chosen.

Very disappointing to see him leave but believe he will be our Manager at some time in the future. Not the best news before the season starts but as we always say it’s not who leaves it’s who we replace them with.
Best of luck Shaun a real Mariner.

I’d heard a few days ago that this was in reaction to the fact we didn’t allow him to go to Lincoln as opposed to him going right now. Didn’t think much of that but his statement appears to back that up.
A shame and yet more disruption to the club this pre season.

Strange he didn't mention DA .
"I'd like to thank everyone i've had the pleasure of working with over the years - my teammates, fellow coaches, staff and volunteers" He didn't mention anyone directly by name in his statement, so why would he single out Artell? Anyway it's weird that he's just upped and left, rather than moving directly to a new role somewhere else.

I imagine the 2(3) parties are talking to each other to try and reach some kind of compromise agreement - if he has left because he has been guaranteed a role and has not worked his notice then of course we have reclaim if he just announces within that notice period that he is employed elsewhere.

If he joined Lincoln now, he would take with him knowledge of any Jamestown targets currently in the pipeline, just as Hutchinson did when he moved back there.

I believe that they have sign an NDA. However, I’m not overly privy as to how strenuous they actually are.

Seems a fair enough stance from GTFC for football related staff. If Lincoln want him to start immediately they should pay off his notice period.

So we are paying him for 6 months to sit at home in a sulk because Lincoln didn't want to pay proper compensation for his services and we wouldn't let him walk for nothing? Seems all very counterproductive.
I'm sure Lincoln are not done taking any good staff we have either.

You can't guarantee that. We've lost of our Head of Recuitment in tragic circumstances and now our Assistant Manager leaving 3 days before our first competitive match of the season. That is clearly going to have an impact. I can only hope that, knowing this was in the pipeline, the club have already identified a replacement. Artell is human and I can't imagine the additional workload is going to be anything but added pressure following what will have been a very difficult summer.

Yeah, this was first mooted publicly about a month ago - the club will have been aware before that. They’ll have a plan in place, I’m sure.
Always been a big fan of Shaun - one of the good guys. This sounds messy, though.

I get your points but it’s only a few short years ago we had Hurst Doig and Dave Moore . The club has changed and their are a lot more staff around to help

Gardening leave is the opposite to counterproductive. It's a great way to get 'em out of the building and not have a negative affect on the people who are still at the club - I have worked with people who have been on notice (often after resigning) and they've done the whole "I don't give a f*ck, I'm leaving" thing. It can have a very disruptive impact on the workplace. There is also probably a clause that says he has to be available should he be needed and he won't be able to work for anyone else during that time. Remember, he signed a contract with his notice terms in it.

Good spot. I guess could say he was part of 2 promotion winning teams if you count unused subs. But surely he couldn't forget one wasn't at Wembley. Maybe he wrote a prompt ChatGPT to write and then didn't check it.

One in 2016 when he came on last minute
the other was London Stadium and i dont think he got on the pitch.
As you say, bit odd
Article on the club website also says he achieved promotion in 2021, but that was the relegation season before he returned from Wrexham. The London Stadium promotion was 2022

It's the timing that puzzles me.- maybe he advised the club some time ago & worked his 'notice' until the pre-season stuff was done? How do we know he's 100% bound for Lincoln who have, I think, recently appointed a new manager together with backroom staff? Maybe he just feels ready to take the top job elsewhere - as & when. I haven't a clue of course - pure conjecture.

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

That's how it reads to me. Sounds like he feels Pearson was undervalued/underappreciated by fellow staff or those higher up?

The timing of this is poor all round and shows nobody in a good light imo.Good luck to Shaun he's been a good servant and a real 100%er.This could be a great opportunity for DA to add his final piece of the promotion jigsaw or maybe the wheels fall off on his journey. The Club seem driven off the field and are clearly getting that right.I like most fans concentrate on what I see from our players once the season starts I've got to be honest I'm not excited by our signings to this point but the starting eleven barring keeper is unchanged. Not sure but I'd think failure to get promoted this time around will see a Manager change and what price Pearson returning?

Given McKeown's response when he was dropped, for a future England goalkeeper who was much, much better than him it should be added, we can probably deduce that he's someone who's overreactive and easily bothered by things so think we can take what he says with a huge dollop of salt. Certainly not a helpful comment.

It does, doesn't it.
Am trying to figure out who ha ha! Think our former Goal Keeper has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about his departure - in theory at his age he should still be playing full time professionally - if he was that good that is.

I wouldnt have said thats an odd comment in his statement.
He was part of two promotion winning teams wasn't he. Might not have started either of the play off finals but obviously played his part in those squads enough to say he's had 2 promotions with us I'd have thought?
It’s the two Wembley promotion references - the second was famously at London Stadium, something he’s unlikely to have forgotten, I’d have thought.

Yeah apologies just re-read the posts and swiftly deleted my post. Just not swiftly enough obviously haha. Guess it is a bit unlike SP as his football knowledge and recollection of games etc is normally impeccable.

Anyone heard of any names regarding a replacement for Pearson? Tom Culshaw is a name ive heard but not sure how true it is. I'd think they might have a replacement lined up as it seems like this has been in the offing for a few weeks.

McKeown just stopping short of “dm me hun”.
All the best to Pearson. Gave his all for Grimsby as a player. No idea if he was any good as a coach, I don’t think any of us do. Artell has had success without him before and I back him to do it again and find a suitable replacement.
Onwards and upwards.

Pretty sure I remember him and Pearson as being best of friends and I read this as him ribbing his mate a bit. Just a downside of putting it on social media is that all and sundry then read into it

I can't be the only one who isn't overly concerned? Club will have known this was coming and hopefully have a replacement lined up already and with plenty of other good coaches on the books already. SP is a fantastic servant to the club and has been great as a player, but I've no idea if he was a good coach. But certainly no room for sentiment in football and we shouldn't get hung up on him being a 'Grimsby Legend'. I'm not discounting his contributions to the club in different capacities, but I'm not losing sleep over a member of the coaching staff leaving.
I can't say I know loads about coaching (nothing at all infact), but sitting in the main stand you'll often see DA giving very specific instructions to players (albeit with some suspect looking arm movements haha). SP always struck me as someone who was good at shouting alot, but it never seemed to have alot of substance, and would often shout like hell at a player but offer zero instruction. Like I say, I know sod all about coaching and I'm sure behind the scenes he could have been an excellent coach (he must be given Lincoln's rumoured interest), but I'm sure DA will have already had one eye on who can come in and compliment his detailed coaching style.
Also on the Kabia subject, again I don't sit here worried like I might have done previously like when we've lost any of our big players. I've every confidence the club have been planning for Kabia's departure with potential replacements lined up and I'd imagine discussions already started. For the first time in my years of supporting the club, I feel we're a real professional outfit that has it's ducks in a row and are planning months in advance, rather than reacting last minute.
Granted timing of all of these things isn't ideal, but losing a member of staff or a player shouldn't and won't derail our progress going into the new season.

You would have thought that Ben Davies would step up, if only on a temporary basis until a permanent replacement is appointed?

Don't think there's any need really, Ray will take over Shaun's role until a replacement is found and our senior staff is well equipped nowadays compared to previous. No need for Dave Moore to rush back to put the cones out.

He disappeared at a similar time Mckeown had some pretty dramatic changes in his personal life. And he appeared with spot on information around the time Pearson got involved in the coaching staff. He also left in a great big hissy fit, much like Mckeown did. He was the source of leaks for years so if it wasn’t him directly posting, I’m almost certain he was the source behind most of it. Good goalkeeper, shite bloke.

I doubt DA will be sacked unless we completely fall off a cliff. However, this summer has been tough for him for obvious reasons. He's had a hell of alot to deasl with off the field in his time here, so maybe if he fails tro get us up, he'll walk? It has to take uit's toll over time.

Six months after Artell joined the club I was talking all things Town with an ex player in people’s park. He was keen to talk about his time at the club. But more significantly he spoke at length about the poor relationship between Shaun Pearson and Artell and how he was surprised the pair were still together, as the player was in communication with both Pearson and Artell. I never posted about this conversation, but I think it now adds context to what may or may not happened for Shaun to now be leaving.
6 months after artell joined we were in the mire and I’m guessing there was a lot of discontent around at that time .

Doesn't strike me as a bloke that walks away when the going gets tough, had many a tragic incident to deal with since being at the club and every time he's stood tall. I recommend anyone that hasn't to not just listen but watch the clip of him talk about Alex Hughes, the eyes tell a story and shows how much he truly meant to Artell and the club. The only time Dave will walk is if he thinks he's taken us as far as he possibly can, the job is no way near finished.

I'm not suggesting he will, just merely offering up a scenario where he may. I don't think for a minute he would, but you never know how things affect people.

Oh 100%, wasn't having a go either mate but I think it's only increased his want/need to finish the job he's started. Sounds like he has really good people around him because the things he's dealt with would take it's toll on anyone.

I must admit, the exact same thing crossed my mind. Pearson leaving announced 11am, Staunton's contract at 3pm. Wonder if we'll see something on Jaze later on this afternoon/evening - unless it's not quite a done deal yet? I did see a post earlier today suggesting both Pearson and Kabia had said their goodbyes yesterday but can't say for certain how true that is

Best wishes SP and thanks for everything A proper lower league footballer who deserves nothing less than our total gratitude for his service to GTFC Whatever the circumstances I hope he’s signed a long term contract if it’s Lincoln. Their new combo deal management team could be out of work very quickly if they make a very poor start to the season

GOod luck to Pearson great player for us, but no idea how good a coach he is. I never particularly enjoyed listening to his press interviews when he did them though.
Artell is doing a cracking job and seems to know his stuff,so not overly fussed by this and can't see it making much if any of a difference to our season.
Still feels like we are in for a good season.

I agree. - top man and footballer. He would have had more seasons under his belt with us if Slade hadn't forced him out to bring his useless mate in at centre- back whose name eludes because he was so forgettable.

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

'Get copulated' is such a great insult/sign off lol.
Made me think of that Brighton fan who was a top bloke/lass but got offended when the filter changed a word to one of the areas stereotypes. Did laugh about it afterwards though and continue to be quality.

You aren't mate, I remember his dismal attempt at managing the club along with Neil Woods, that's why I am not concerned.

Not sure what to make of this and maybe there is nothing to make of it other than just natural progression.
Timing is odd though just before the start of the season and in a period where DA had a heavier workload due to the remainder of the window and the start of the season.

Like I said when I started this thread the guy who told me he was leaving this week, also told me Him and DA had a bust up on the camp and Shaun decided to travel back on his own.
Like I said all ifs buts and maybe but it's a shame to see Shaun go.

I was always a little annoyed when DA came in and didn't pick his own coaching staff. Our owners, while they've done brilliant, I think made a mistake here, and if there was a poor relationship between them, then this has took far too long to resolve.
If Lincoln tried to get SP on the cheap, and he's got annoyed we haven't been bent over a barrel maybe shows he might not have our interests at heart.
I'm looking forward to DA bringing his own guy in, and finding someone he can trust that can bring some different experience.
Most players here know our system, and know what is required of them, we'll comfortably handle the time until we can bring someone else in.
Oh, and possibly either McKeown hates Town (as I don't think any of the old hierarchy exist), or maybe he's supporting a friend, and this is a way to put out a message without doing it directly. It adds not value, and doesn't reflect highly when the boot is being stuck in.

Interesting comment on Shaun’s departure from James McKeown Tweet 2084955353242841270 will appear here...
He's a very bitter man who needs to get over it all tbh. He gets dropped from the team one time and has a full on mental breakdown never being the same player again, full on goes mental when Hurst gets tired of him on return and starts acting out against the club. He's like Bret Hart with the screwjob. "That time in Cleethorpes.....The screwjob when Marcus Bignot replaced me without my consent with some kid who was better than me! Never forget!"

Hadn't considered that "Alan Buckley" might have been James McKeown but now it makes perfect sense.

It will be interesting what happens in the coaching set up. If Shaun’s headcount is replaced then I’m sure it will be with a new face.
Though this is not at all relative Sir Alex used to rev his back room staff up every season or two and it worked for him.

Anyone heard of any names regarding a replacement for Pearson? Tom Culshaw is a name ive heard but not sure how true it is. I'd think they might have a replacement lined up as it seems like this has been in the offing for a few weeks.

According to DA in the interview I’ve just watched, there was no falling out and SP is coming to the game on Saturday with his son and they will probably have a drink together afterwards. UTM

New assistant in with a great pedigree and varied experience. Not sure whether or not there was a fall out but reading between the lines listening to DA's interview on YouTube (pre Blackpool)...something appears to have gone on - SP was struggling to make transition from player to coach when DA arrived. SP became a "good" coach. Intimated we had improved in that department with the new appointment (gentle back peddling about that not being a reflection on SP)
