The first Grimsby Town player I thought of as the first real superstar linked with the club from people I knew in the area in modern times, post-1985.

He scored 8 goals, but made 25 appearances that season. Bloody good going in a side that would go onto be relegated, and really does underline what an unbelievable player he was for a club of our size. Also played a handful of games in the top flight for Sheffield United before he joined us.

Quite a few Town players from the 90s that really ought to have gone on and played a few seasons in the lower echelons of the Premier League. Gary Croft and John Oster did, and I think Danny Butterfield played a handful of games for Palace, but the likes of Macca, Groves, possibly even Gallimore had he lived his life like Cristiano Ronaldo were unlucky not to have achieved more.

Neil Woods was signed by Rangers in the SPL but it didn’t work out. I think he was so skillful, that had he had even an extra half a mile-per-hour of pace he’d have been very comfortable and useful in the First Division or early Premier League.

Awe my favourite town player ever, I had his name on all my kits when I was a teen.

Was definitely a premier league class player such a shame his career was curtailed. I was going  mad watching that Charlton match, such an unbelievable high quality hatrick. Best ever at Wembley I'd say.

Looking back at the Championship strikers around that time there were so many quality players Clive, Kevin Phillips, John Alderage, Steve Bull to name just a few.
