Clearly, Gabriel didn't have the balls of Henry Brown - one of our own.

Gabriel had not taken one before (as reported).  He had the confidence to volunteer though. Should have at least hit the target.

As Eze should have as well.  (Hope that he does not take one in the World Cup).

Main penalty takers had been subbed.

A David Batty moment.  He missed for England v Argentina. Never having taken a pen before.

The money these blokes get paid and time spent training, the only penalty misses should be from goalkeeper wonder saves.
Its not difficult they are supposed to be professionals.

I’ve always hated the stuttering run-up and delayed shot penalty and have wondered why players do it so I had a look round for some stats, and it seems the data support the Stuttering run-up (what they call “goalkeeper-dependent”) as a technique, but…

…here’s the catch: the data all comes from league games, so there’s an inbuilt caveat that those sorts of penalties are being taken and executed successfully by regular penalty takers, so therefore self-selecting for confident personality types, well-practised, honest technique. Think Pirlo, Bruno Fernandes, Jorginho, Ivan Toney. In a pressure penalty situation, these blokes will have rehearsed and know their run-up cadence (disrupts the keeper’s decision-making), entry step, where to look, how long to wait, and finally the muscle memory on ball-striking for placement.

So my conclusion and takeaway for the World Cup would be, regular penalty takers who have a technique that works should be left to it, let Toney take his in his usual technique. As for the non-regulars, strip it back so they focus on a repeatable penalty, with fewer moving parts, hit hard and to a high-percentage area of the goal.

Glad someone gets it.  Last season our pen takers would have been B, Odin, Kai and Leo.  All subbed off.

Yes, I hate stuttering run ups too, but apparently he did that all the time for QPR and Palace and normally scored.

I dunno why a CH was taking our 5th penalty, not an England winger like Noni, but that's another issue.

CWC SF vs Sampa, '95.  Big Tony Adams took the 3rd pen and scored.  So I have no problem with our beloved, natural leader no.6 taking one.

We ran those finanically-doped shitgibbons closer than anyone has for the last two years, and like Town, we'll be back stronger next season.

Bring 'em all on.  Div1, Div 4 and the CL.

We should have bribed the ref with haddock, though, like you used to cos he'd clearly been bought.

I think on balance both the Saka “handball” incident and the non-penalty on Madueke were correct, or certainly within the bounds of “six of one, half a dozen of another/not a clear and obvious error/umpire’s call” territory, and were there no VAR and they were being discussed on the bus home rather than dissected from every angle, we’d be saying the ref made a fair call on each.

Have to agree, sadly.  Still wish they given us a pen for the foul on Noni.

And I hate stuttering run ups.

I was really enjoying watching your matches without VAR until the Salford second at BP.  Then I suddenly wanted it because it would clearly have been disallowed.  Where was the blind shitgibbon in the black from?  Probably been bought, if you ask me.
