Next week, the Fishy forum will have a new feature: notifications of a gold star.

You will receive a notification of a Gold Star shortly after you have been awarded one. This will be a PM which only you can see. The fact that you have sent a gold star will not be visible to anyone except the recipient of the gold star.

It is possible to both 1) turn off this feature when you award gold stars, and 2) turn off notifications when you receive one. Anyone who is already ignoring the notification system with the existing setting will not receive gold star alerts (they can't see the gold stars anyway).

I am allowing a few days before this is turned on to give anyone a chance to change their settings (see attachment).

Talking about site features, is there a dark theme mode or could we have one? (If not no worries)

Other forums I regularly use have this setting which converts the the background to a black with white text etc. I find it much easier  to look at.

Good idea, that. A Fishy “dark mode” might be the only way to get arryarryarry back on here…

There is a feature like that called Forum Theme. In your settings. I have never maintained anything other than the standard one, as almost nobody uses the other 2 options. I could probably add a dark theme, it's just a question of choosing some different colours and leaving everything else untouched. I'll add it to the list to look into.

Yeah, my old eyes cope better with dark mode, so another vote for it from me.

Failing that mate. I use Opera and I have a dark mode extension.  It's just one click of a button.  It works on most sites - this one included.  One the sites that it sometimes doesn't work on, I just click a button on my extension bar.

Why the secrecy?  Presumably there is nothing to stop the recipient telling everyone publicly who gave the gold star.  Anyway, 99 percent of them are undeserved in my opinion.
