I was looking forward to fish and chips last night but when I got to the one just up from the imp it was rammed . So we went further towards Clee and the Mariner was empty . We went to the next chippy and it was rammed . I didn’t go to the mariner and wondered if was that bad ?

Town fans hate the mariner chippy, it’s supposed to be awful.

Heard good things about Gr8White.

I, however, being a posh git, feasted on a sit down fish and chips at the Ocean Fish Bar - it was phenomenal, nigh-on perfect. Thank you!

Pips Chips & GR8 White are both absolutely top drawer down Grimsby Road.

Sleep well Icey, Matty and Richard. Keep each other company up there xx

For years just went to Steels or the Ocean if time allowed

Have recently gone to both Gr8 White and Pips. Both good, but Gr8 White were a cut above imo.

I don’t get the strong feelings of hate directed at this or that chip shop, especially from people who’ve never been in it; it’s someone’s business and livelihood at the end of the day and people have different tastes.

My own view is that we’re blessed with loads of excellent chippies (back “home”, not down here sadly!) and that a good rule of thumb is that anywhere using beef tallow/dripping to fry their food is an automatic 9.5/10 because aside from it achieving the high temperatures needed for crispy light batter, you could fry an old boot in beef fat and it would still taste great.

Not a posh guy, but my friends took me to Ocean Fish Bar last night and it was amazing. And very well-priced.

I travel up from Surrey for the games and have been going to Browns Cafe on the seafront. I have been happy with their food. Haddock and chips have been £10.50 and £2 for a cup of tea. That seemed to be the going rate.

At Ocean Fish Bar they have a special at £13.50. Haddock and chips, bread and butter, a pot of tea AND a pudding (sweet). I had a cherry tart with ice cream. All for only £1 more than Browns, so I know where I will be going in future.

Ocean Fish Bar is deceptive in appearance. At the front all you see is a fish and chip shop, however, they have a massive restaurant behind which I was told holds about 170 peopl.
