Don't know - as many teams seem to get it badly wrong as they do well - money alone just doesn't buy success look at Salford now , Burton or even in our league Carlisle & Gillingham and in the top 2 leagues many teams  throwing millions and millions at it to do worse than bad the contradiction is clubs like Wrexham, Stockport , Brentford and Bournemouth have done the same but seemingly with a better process/plan which seems to show money with some forethought gives you a massive advantage . I'm not particularly jealous of the salford's , Burton's etc I just can't see playing them as anything but superficial games against teams I just find meh . If we ever had any proper money I wouldn't even want us to pony it up on player wages,  personally I would rather just get this training ground , improve the stadium and general infrastructure for the long term good .

Luton seemed to have hit the jackpot with being able to self fund their new ground , I suppose that's the dream somehow go right through and exit with something tangible even if you get worse on the pitch through the process.

I do agree with what you posted, however, while Luton are able to self funded a new ground they will be playing in L1 next season, a drop from the prem and championship in consecutive seasons. I think you have to balance one against the other and I'm sure the fans down there will not be happy.

You can please some of the forumites some of the time but not all the forumites all of the time

Seven seasons ago they were in League One,
Eight seasons ago they were in League Two.
Twelve seasons ago they were in the Conference.

All with their limited capacity, expensive to maintain, no room for development, limited scope for income generation and 12,000 capacity Kenilworth Road ground.

At any point if you had offered a Luton fan the prospect of back-to-back relegations to League One with the caveat of a self-funding 25,000 new stadium that all but guarantees them a place as a serious heavyweight at the top of the second tier they would have bitten your hand off.

They might have taken pelters for their conservative spending in the Premier League from some but I think there's an example of exactly how to do it and realising the long-term ambition should always outweigh the short-term shotus.
