Do you know what, you're probably right. But, if it's OK with you ofcourse, I think I'd like to continue. Is that OK?

To be honest I quite like updates like this . It’s nice to see a post about Facts rather than the usual drivel we all post

This has been proven to largely be a waste of time though, right? If we have hundreds of ticket holders who don’t turn up, the seats sold bears absolutely no relation to the attendance.

As good an initiative as this was when Lukeo started it, he’s proven that, unfortunately, it’s futile.

It just evidences that the release the seat scheme hasn't got a huge uptake and that there are for many games (especially the bigger one's) no decent seats available especially for people to sit together . It must be 700-800 that don't turn up regularly the seat next to me hasn't been there all season not 1 game .

I think 'Lukeo' s seat count' should  be a regular fishy feature now. Keeps things bubbling away nicely up to match day. Well done Lukeo.. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Thanks for the comments lads, it's my small sad way of keeping in touch with you guys and gtfc. Yes it's never accurate when it comes to the 'official attendance' but its a bit of fun and even if it helps someone whos not too tech savvy see quickly and easily whats roughly available or if it is to drive a couple of people to buy tickets and get down to BP then it's worth while..

For what it's worth Swindon have been given less than 400 tickets annitially which they haven't sold out of yet. So I'm guessing around 300 away fans but that is a pure guess.

I wonder if the club would release info on tickets sold for all the home games ? So we could figure out the disparity between the announced attendance v seats sold . My guess is 700-800 average per game no shows but it would be better to have the factual figure though  .

Many months ago Debbie Cook said that on average 10% of ST's don't turn up, so that's about 600ish per game on average.

To solve the issue of people buying season tickets, not turning up and not releasing the seat, how about this:

If you don’t attend at least 12 home games during the season (so turning up yourself or releasing it) you don’t get first dibs on reserving the same seats for the following season.

Haven’t thought this through, btw!

It would be better if all clubs declared the actual attendance rather than tickets sold. Clubs could include no-show data in their annual report for information. I don’t know how many clubs are left like Town. Some are easy to spot by looking at their attendances in mid week when there are likely to be more no shows, I don’t think there are many left like us though. Port Vale are one - they have more STH than us but have had declared attendances as low as 4.5k this season.

An exile (say) may buy a season-ticket as a donation. Or buy it in case of a big FAC match at home.

They may not have any plans to attend even one league game.  Having paid their money this is their right.  Whether they release their match day seat is also up to them.

These issues will annoy some people but there is nothing that can be done without creating another problem. (As Brentford did).

Thanks Lukeo, I enjoy looking at the count in a build up to a game. Regarding exiles and season tickets it is what it is. They have the right to not turn up, they’re supporting the club best they can. I have one and make almost all games, ones I miss are usually decided on the day often something out of my control. I don’t then have the time to release my seat. Everyone has different reasons in what they do, it least it’s good in the fact we have a very good solid base of season ticket holders. Looking forward to next season like I always do, hopefully we won’t be feeling disappointed by Christmas…….UTM and I will be applauding the team if we get the point tomorrow off the pitch!

As exiles we can't make every home game but as I want to sit in the Fundus we bought season tickets for the first time ever this season after being unable to buy 2 tickets together last season, I usually release my seat but sometimes I am not sure if going till Saturday. :-/

I wonder if in the future when the ‘I’m not tech savvy’ excuse has finally worn thin, we might see a system where instead of releasing your seat, you confirm it instead, maybe by the Wednesday or Thursday before the game on the Saturday. If you haven’t confirmed it by then, it goes on general sale. Would stop a lot of ‘no shows’ who just don’t bother to release their seat. I don’t know, just a thought.

They have bought the seat for hundreds of pounds! They can do what they like, whether to go or not depending on their circumstances for each game.

Interesting ... at certain prem clubs you will forfeit your season ticket unless you hit a threshold number of games . See ManC as a good example. There was an excellent article in the athletic about this recently.

I find it interesting that in this thread we’re defending those who can afford to pay out hundreds and then choose to leave their seat empty when on another thread we’re decrying how wealth has destroyed the game for the ordinary fan.

As a fan of 40+ years, through thick and thin, I do find it odd that when I’m now back in town, a family group of tickets (not in the Osmond/Ormand Corner) is like rocking horse excrement. Particularly when it’s a ‘sell out’ but it turns out there are still seats everywhere.

First season back in the league in 16/17 someone bought three seats next to mine on the halfway line at the back of the upper and turned up to the the Pompey and Donny games and one other that I can’t remember. Huge waste of money for them. People who are doing this shouldn’t be allowed to renew but should be offered complimentary 1878 membership for a season.

This is a bad idea for reasons others have stated, but there might be a bit of something in the tech/automation side of it.

You could do an automated email/text asking people to confirm they are attending, with a couple of reminders up till game day, something like "please let us know if you are planning on coming by replying 'y'/clicking here etc.. If you are not able to attend, please do consider releasing your seat and entering our prize draw etc."

If you reply confirming you're attending, the texts/emails obvs stop, if not, you must get a couple more emails or texts up to game day promoting the same message

But never with any threat to your seat, just encouragement/reminder to release your seat if you can't attend

You know, there is a simpler way of solving "no-show" ST holders, play decent football, with intent. It won't always pan out, but people are happy to watch a team that's trying, and has some semblance of a clue of the big plan.

Let's be honest, if you had a deal and prepaid 23 meals at a restaurant only to be served cold meals, burnt meals and watery soups. And if you complained and the manager (2 managers) told you that they were trying for Michelin 3 stars and never mind the local rag said rats were rife in the kitchen, and the FHR was 1, when would you stop going?

So you condone buying a product and if you don't use it then you are penalised and prevented from buying it again! If I bought a new car and was told by the showroom that if I didn't drive it then I wouldn't be allowed to buy from them again then I would never use them again. It's called freedom of choice. It's not as if the club lose out financially as they'll have already sold that seat. Admittedly, by releasing the seat for non- attendees then extra revenue could be made but I do believe that it was posted on here that a lot of released seats are not taken up anyway.

Yeah but no one else is trying to drive your car.

If you knew your car was wanted by a queue of people, maybe you’d consider releasing it to help others?

Weak analogy I’m afraid.

Or, just put seats in one of the open corners and there should be plenty of available seats.
Posted by: RichMariner, April 20, 2024, 2:21pm; Reply: 45
Also, worth making a distinction between available seats and ‘groups’ of available seats.

A single seat isn’t much used to me when I’d like to take my wife, son and nephew, for example.

We’re in the Osmond today, which is fine, but if those open corners generated more room then I’d prefer to be over there, closer to the Pontoon where I’ve traditionally watched Town games from.

There is a bigger problem looming. What will be the ST sales for next season, after this season's fair? I know of three supporters (out of town) who had season tickets and stopped coming about Christmas time, and who have said enough is enough. It's a mess.

Not really, if I buy something then whether I use it or not is my decision. The club get the money and I would bet that if I released my seat then it's more than likely it wouldn't be taken up. It's a solitary seat and too many " casuals want a block so they can sit with their mates.

The euros are the next thing coming up, I'm doing a predictor league for anyone interested. £10 entry, top 3 win the prize pot. You have to predict all the results on all of the games :)

Great work - I’d be interested in the seat count v declared attendance numbers for the games you’ve done the count for. Yesterday looks like one the lowest no-shows of the seasons.
