Are we all backing Curzon tomorrow then or does anyone want it to be Cambridge. To be honest I can't really see past a Cambridge win, Curzon had their chance last Satuday I think so I reckon it'll be a fairly easy win for the U's tomorrow.

Agreed. The bigger team usually get their act together in a home replay.

Not quite true but it may seem that way at times but the database shows 17 wins apiece so teams historically been pretty evenly matched.

No win in the past 7 meetings between the teams but 7 wins since the turn of the century (21 games).

Cambridge for me, it's much easier to get to. I wouldn't go to Curzon Ashton.

Been to the Abbey loads of times so would prefer Curzon if just for that.

It’d be some week if Curzon did get through after running the Russians out of town last week.

For Town there are 2 exceptions to the above views and stats.  One good and one bad.

About 12 years ago we beat Cambridge 1-0 away in the league.   It was an excellent  performance by Town.  Anyone who was there will remember it.

Yes, the stronger team usually wins a cup replay when at home to a lower team.  Town were at home
To Salisbury in a FAC replay.  They were a division lower and part-time.  Despite taking the lead in extra-time, we still lost before penalties.

As we have found in the last 2 or 3 weeks,  nothing is certain in football.

If I recall right we’ve won at the Abby a couple of times, 2014 & 2016 the latter Berret scored the winner bizarrely.

That night against Salisbury was Baltic. Even by BP standards it was cold, and I despaired when it went to extra time and we had to endure another 30 mins freezing our nuts off.

To lose as well was just torture.

Did you have a tour of their cathedral though?

I was at the Cambridge 0-1 in 2012. Coulson, frankie artus and Scott Garner, elding with the goal
Good atmosphere with about 400 Town fans on a cold Tuesday night
We finished mid table but I enjoyed most of the games I went to that year, which is unusual  ;D
Come to think of it, I think it was mainly due to having a striker that terrorised defences
That and the fact we finally had a team that worked for their wages

It was also at Cambridge where Town ended a ridiculously long run of not winning an away game, in Slade's first season in 2004.  Macca scored the second in a 2-0 win I think.

But yeah, generally they've got a bit of a hold over us.

We've got a decent record there in recent times.

2020-21 lost, 2019-20 drew, 2018-19 lost, 2017-18 lost, 2016-17 won, 2013-14 won, 2011-12 won, 2010-11 drew.

So it's been poor in very recent years but priort that it was decent.
